My husband and I went for an hour-long tour of the property and had an AMAZING time! Our tour guide Emily was kind and introduced us to all of the animals and ended our tour in the gift shop, where we purchased some alpaca socks (highly recommend).
The animals were sweet and the views were stunning. We will definitely be bringing our friends and family here!

What a fun visit to Apple Hill Farms! The property is so beautiful. We took a guided tour with Eric and he did an amazing job telling us about the farm and the animals there. We met donkeys, alpacas, llamas, goats, etc. After our tour we were invited to visit the gift shop where they had all colors of alpaca yarn(?) for sale, among many other items. I purchased an alpaca wool(?) blanket and it’s my new favorite! We will definitely visit again.

Run, don’t walk to your tour of AHF! The guide, Tyler was super knowledgeable, friendly and most importantly accommodating to our young children. The setting and views are gorgeous. The farm animals are interesting, cute and sweet. The gift shop is unique, and the whole experience was special and fun for our family of 4. My only regret is that we haven’t been to Apple Hill Farms sooner. I am so happy to have gotten some fresh, local and delicious honey for myself.

What a great way to end our crazy busy weekend in the area. We were in town for a large festival in Boone. The staff were fabulous when needing to to switch days to to our vehicle breaking down. I will for ever be known there as the woman whose yarn just did not want to wind. Everyone was so patient with us about it.

Absolutely the best time! Enjoyed all the information and animals. My daughter even made a friend with the beautiful dog that followed her through the farm and was waiting at the car for her after we shopped the gift shop at the end. Highly recommend!!! I also have two teenage boys who thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Great for all ages!!

We really enjoyed our tour at Apple Hill Farm. It was fun to see the animals and learn a little bit about their personalities. The one-hour tour was perfect, and the photo opt was a bonus. Beautiful views!! Highly recommend!

The road leading up to the farm is long, winding and has some gravel. If driving there yourself use a vehicle that can handle well on these types of roads. The staff is patient and very pleasant, especially when answering questions from young children. The tour is an hour due to slow pace of it not the size of the area where tourists are taken. The guide was very friendly and informative. The tour could go at a faster pace or expand the size of the terrain where people could walk. There were moments where we stayed in one area for too much time. There was one alpaca that was in good proximity. We were told the farm has 25 and it would have been nice to see more alpacas. There were approximately 5 lamas give or take. They were also within a good viewing location. I don’t recommend going if it’s very cold, raining or windy. Wear hiking boots, there might be mud. Check the weather before you book if possible. The website was easy to navigate and convenient to pay. The ticket price was $17 for an individual ticket. In my opinion it’s too expensive for the experience. They have individual tickets available on certain days only. I think this is a great place to visit if you’re really into lamas and or alpacas and you’ve always wanted to see one. It’s also a great place for those that love to crochet and or knit and are really into fashion, fabrics and luxury textiles. The views are very pretty from the observation deck.

While we would LOVE to take people to our other barns, the walk is STEEP and LONG and truly not a fun journey. The walk back up the hill is a real doozy! We did offer this many years ago, and we found that is was a very uncomfortable experience for most of our visitors.
We usually try to keep the pacing interesting for everyone on the tour, but sometimes people have lots of questions and we may linger a little longer than usual somewhere. We do our best to visit the alpacas, llamas, donkey, goats, horses, and views and keep the tour right at an hour.

This tour was the highlight of my teenage grandson's trip! Our tour guide led us around the farm explaining at each stop various features. We saw pot bellied pigs, llamas, donkeys, cows, horses and the featured alpacas and angora goats! While we had been warned this was not a petting zoo, many of the animals were friendly when we visited and came to us for attention and affection. We learned about the farm's interesting history and about caring for the animals. The view from the hill there is lovely and the small sales shop is a bit pricey but the items for sale are well worth it. When we left my grandson asked if we could return again next year!

We drove an hour and a half and paid $17 per ticket even for our pre-teen kids. The alpacas are the largest reason we came. During our tour, they were on the far side of the fence. After the tour, you are allowed to revisit them, but only on the parking side of the fence which then they were on the drive side, so viewing was still from a far. Never even got to see them up close. The goats end up being the only real experience we got. The tour itself it just one big square. Very disappointed. This is a one and done for our family.

We are sorry the farm did not meet your expectations. We do our best to encourage the animals to interact with guests, but as we state on our website, we never force them to participate in our tours. If is important for your safety and theirs that we let them lead the way! Sometimes this does mean that they are on the opposite side of the field and somewhere you can't get close to due to the farm driveway or electric fences.

My son (22) and I really enjoyed our tour of Apple Hill Alpaca Farm. Our guide,Tyler, was awesome and you could tell how much he truly appreciates the animals and the farm.
He wasn't fazed by any question and was eager to share his love of the animals, pointing out who held a special place in his heart and why. It's amazing the relationship he has been able to foster in just the 8 short months he's been there. He also went the extra mile & coaxed the shier animals to to show themselves so we could see the similarities and differences. HIs presence in the animals corrals also seemed to make them show off their playfulness for a favored human.
Apple Hill Alpaca Farm is far more than just an Alpaca farm. The support animals that keep the livestock safe, are just as fascinating as the Alpacas.
If you are anywhere near the Banner Elk, Boone, Blowing Rock area of NC you will not be disappointed if you make a visit to the Apple Hill Alpaca Farm.
PS The Alpaca Trail socks they sell in the store, were the tour ends, are a first rate buy. We put the to the test hiking in Grandfather State Park the day after our visit.

So from what I am reading in the reviews, children do not get to touch any of these animals? Is this correct?

Both my children and myself were able to pet some of the animals. The animals are not in small pens, so it is not a guarantee that they will come over to you on your visit. However, we were able to pet the miniature horses and the alpacas. And, of course, the wonderful dogs.

Hi....Instead of gifts for Christmas for some, i like to give away "experiences". I was wondering if you have gift card(s) available for tours, or how I could go about purchasing a tour for a family ahead of time, if possible. Thanks...
