Warning. This Renaissance Faire wants to cover up the bad reviews from last year on Google by deleting their previous page and making a new one filled with new positive reviews. They also like to turn off comments on social media pages to silence negative critique.

I have attended this Faire for a few years and it used to be one of my favorite Ren Faires. 2023 was a nightmare. This Faire has been ruined by corporate greed that seeks to benefit off of how popular ren faires are on TikTok by overselling tickets to a dangerous degree.

Online it says to arrive early due to traffic. We got to the location 2 hours before the gates opened and still had to wait in a line of cars for 2 hours to park. Once we finally got into the Faire, we spent an hour on line for food, half an hour for drinks, an hour for a bathroom. We weren't able to get into a majority of the shops because of crowds and lines waiting to get in. We didn't get to experience much while we were there, and while normally I would spend around 2k on items from vendors, I left there with nothing. Lines would be so long that they spilled onto walkways, making it dangerous and almost impossible for disability access. We will never return.

Wow, what has happened to the Faire? We have attend this Faire for over 20 years and are astonished by the negative changes. It now is $54 for a single ticket for the same shows( which is tolerable) but a single adult beverages is $12 in a what is almost a bathroom mouth wash cup. Food is barely above McDonald's at 3 times the cost. The roaming smokers also drag down the environment. The atmosphere no longer gives you a feel of Renaissance. This is so sad.Do not waste your money.

i WAS a fan of NYRF but because of the incompetence of the parking staff and the long lines in the faire i will find somewhere else to spend my money. After all these years you would figure they would streamline the parking and food lines but i guess they did no think it was needed, also with raising the price of tickets and not improving in any way. The performers were great but not worth the hassle.

Really should be 2.5 stars, but that is not an option here.
Had not been here in over 15 years and was not overly impressed. Meh.
Attended on opening day last Saturday. Arrived closer to noon than the 10:00 AM start so perhaps I missed all of the excitement. By the time that I arrived, the place was stone quiet: no wandering minstrels; no strolling wenches; no over-the-top fools to interact with the masses. This persisted throughout the day until closing.
Many of the stage acts seemed to lack a certain "oomph" that used to be there. One notable exception was The Flaming Ginger who was very quick-witted and engaged his audience with an acerbic wit. Well done, you.
On the positive side, it was good to see that the permanent buildings have been spruced up and given new life. When I was last there, the place was well on its way to being tumbledown.
Also, all of the vendors were outgoing and accommodating. Some even used "good morrow" and "thank thee" phrasing (and similar) which used to be virtually universal practice. Hope that the owners and director continue to bring this practice back.
Please, bring back Shakespeare as well...

It pains me to write this review, but management has all but destroyed one of the best events in the Hudson Valley, and tis needs to be known. In years gone by we would go 4-5 times every season. Unfortunately, it seems we will have to remember those wonderful days as mere memories.

New York Renaissance Faire 2023
Today was day two of their opening weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect, mostly sunny with a high of 78 degrees.
What should have been a wonderful day like so many of the visits of prior years turned out to be a rape and attempted rape of my wallet at every turn.
Tickets to get in the door: $45.00 per person plus fees. That's up just about 100%
Parking is still $20 - ridiculous
Mixed drinks like the Bee Sting: $15.00 - that's up 50% from last year.
Turkey leg: $16 - that's up about 20%
Several favorite buildings, like the Blue Boar, are simply gone and have been replaced with shops.
The only quality acts from previous years left are Washing Well Women and Magickana. Half of Acrobatrix, the woman, has her own annoying show now and makes her breakup a major part of her dialog. Uggh. There are a couple new shows that are good,, Jeffrey Jene (magician) and The Flaming Ginger (fire juggling & comedy) but otherwise the acts are.... meh.
We saw zero old staff.... I think the Faire is under new management and the feel I got at every turn was of over the top commercialism. Sure, a visit was never cheap, but when you spent the money as part of the day it was an entertainment expense. We used to drop a couple hundred in a day, but for that we had quite a few drinks and several food purchases. The Faire used to feel like "home"... now it's just a badly produced, insanely overpriced show.
Management needs to rethink their strategy here... and quickly. For the weather day we had, the Faire shoul.d have been packed. I'd venture to guess attendance was down 50-60%. The Ren Faire atmosphere and feel seemed to have been sucked out of Sterling Forest by way of shambolic greed.
There were no lines at the bars... I wonder why.
There were no lines for food... I wonder why.
We bought one drink and one turkey leg. Both were shared.
We tipped the two good acts we saw.
Our total expense? $155... for a near zero value.
The only reason I had a good time today was my Queen Carolyn.
If things don't change monetarily, I honestly don't think we will return.

I most recently went in 2022. This event has devolved significantly over the years (see the other recent reviews). It's a good concept, but you will waste time waiting in lines for the entire day unless you follow my suggestions below.

The best entertainers are the musical acts. The non-musical acts are constantly guilt-tripping the audience for applause and tips. I mean, it's a thing with every act and it's really monotonous. It becomes a drill of applause aerobics that has nothing to do with the entertainment that you've already paid for with your entry ticket.

Here's my advice - go very, very early to get a parking spot, plan to eat and drink (tailgate) at your car, review the performance schedule and plan to hit all the musical acts (the other performers are so-so as noted above). Enjoy the many shops selling non-food items and buy what you like. Get out with your sanity intact.

Taking a bus is another option, but then you're a captive of their food concessions with prices and lines that could ruin your experience.

Unrelated tidbit: In 2019 I prepaid for a pub crawl just before the pandemic and lost that money completely (no refunds on pub crawls for any reason). Most likely it's going to be too hot a day to be out drinking like that anyway - so I recommend just skipping it.

Should just know what you are getting yourself into when you go...takes 1hr- 2hr to park and just get in. All the toilets are stinky and gross. Lots of people smoking vapes in non smoking sections. Lots of drinking for obnoxious people. Limited seating for all the food vendors. Long lines for everything. Good if this is your thing but just beware. Way way too crowded and no one manages it.

Like so many other reviewers my family and I waited more than an hour and a half to travel two miles for parking. Given how many years this company has operated the faire at this location there was no excuse for the mismanagement and disorganization. I hadn't been to the NY Res-Faire in many years, and was terribly disappointed in how utterly commercial it has become. No outside food or beverage is permitted so, after spending $175 for five tickets and $20 for parking (unbelievable!), we dropped another $150 on lunch and drinks. Only one performer in the jousting show was mic'd so we couldn't hear it, the disgusting outhouses had no toilet paper in them, and there was no soap in the sinks. Crowded, expensive and commercial. Worst day of the summer. What a waste of money. We won't go back.

The worst. 2 hours in the car, only 3 miles from the entrance, waiting in a truculent traffic jam for parking, with no directions from police or Renfair staff. Once there, we were informed that the parking lots were about to be completely full and yet there were miles of cars still waiting to park. Clearly this event sells infinite tickets with no concern about overcrowding.

The place was packed. Long lines for everything. Nowhere to sit. Everything cash only. Clearly a tax dodge. Food just awful. Bathrooms (Port-o-Potties) a disgusting nightmare. This was NOT a Renaissance experience. It's just one giant concession stand. No employees in character except for the entertainment which was the one bright spot of the Fair. It was also fun to people watch visitors who were in costume, which was about 50% of the crowd. But all in all, NOT WORTH IT.

Drove an hour to get there for 10am then tried for 3 hours to get a parking spot. Was told to go to preferred lot 1 then when you get there they say it’s closed with no further direction on where to go. Your only option is try attempt a dangerous u turn and drive bumper to bumper traffic to go back the 1/4 mile to another parking lot which would probably take another hour to do.

They have no remorse for the fact that people were there and couldn’t park. They refuse to refund the tickets.
