Our first time at this location and it was a very nice, cold day. The exhibits were okay, but things like the King's garden were all gone, brown and poorly maintained. Some of the attractions like the Fort Cafe and Log Home welcome center were closed because they did not have the staff to work it according to the groundskeeper. Some of the indoor exhibits did not have lighting turned on, so we could not see properly to investigate. The firing of the cannon and outdoor shows were nice and the people were very friendly and informative.

Very interesting place. The history goes back much further than I expected here. The actors all had great stories to tell. I found it interesting that all the uniforms and civilian costumes are made on site in the original tailor's shop. Unfortunately, it rained pretty hard we were there so some of the demonstrations had to be cancelled. The cannons and artillery and story of how they were obtained was cool too.

Wonderful experience, where history is told and shown in a brilliant way : we feel we are back in time, understanding the life of those that lived, defended, attacked, surrendered or used the ressources of the fort. The works are impressive and the staff and guides are from another world, willing to share their knowledge and passion. Thank you all (A Frenchman with nostalgia when this was France) ?

History comes alive in this very historical fort with re-enactors throughout the buildings. The American flag is raised at 10 am and this is followed by a knowledgeable guide giving a talk about the history. Later there is a muster demonstration and other tours and exhibits throughout the day, all in period dress. I was surprised at the many people there! There is a nice gift shop and an excellent cafe. The grounds surrounding the fort are beautifully kept. This was a very nice visit especially for my husband who is a military historian and who has always wanted to visit Fort Ticonderoga. Highly recommend this historic site.

We loved the fort, and wish we'd had time to stay for the evening programs! There was plenty to do here, and several exhibits to look through. The cannon firing demonstration was done very well, and gave more information than we'd gotten at other museums. The interpreters did a fantastic job, especially the shoemaker and the tailor! The gardens still looked wonderful in late September, which was a surprise, and the gift shop had very reasonable prices! I hope to return sometime!

I have been interested in seeing Ticonderoga and finally was close enough in the area to do so. We had a beautiful sunny day to tour the museum and boat ride. We took our time walking through the exhibits in the fort and slso took a garden tour enjoy the flower snd vegetables garden. The re-enactors/hosts were all very knowledgeable. Id compre it to Plymouth planation or Sturbridge village eere the hosts are really working with the same tools that would havebeen available at the time.
We did not eat at the Cafe, but instead planned for a picnic lunch anyway. There was plenty of tables and green space to relax.
We spent about 4hrs including the boat ride and realized we didn't see the newest learning center addition. The collection of gunpowder horns is a must see.
We also took advantage of visiting the lookout tower at Mount Defiance on our way out. It was a great overlook to to see the fort and the lake.

Just a one day visit in the rain. The grounds are beautiful, the fort chock full of exhibits, places to sit here and there, staff helpful. Took a very rainy ride on the Carillon, wish it had been better weather but still learned a lot from Tom, and Captain Tim. There was a head on board.
Had a quick snack in the cafe. We would love to return. Obvious how proud the people who work here are of this incredible place.

The docents were amazing! Walking around in period costume in this heat was a sign of pure dedication. Their knowledge of history and the fort was extensive and their talks were very interesting. We met the shoemaker who made all the shoes for the docents. Interesting to watch him work. The musket firing demonstration was impressive, as was the tour of the King’s Garden, which was beautiful. The boat tour was very informative. Captain Andy and Ethan were great. We had a nice lunch at the visitor center.

Very well done historic representation. The costumed characters did a great job of explaining what went on there and making it interesting and lively. Don't miss the beautiful garden by the lakefront.

If we visit the Wednesday after Labor Day, are there re-enactments, staff in costume, etc, or is it more a self guided wander the grounds type of experience? I’ve checked the website, but am unclear as to what a “typical” day at the fort is like. TIA.

Now that the fort is open again, we plan to visit the area next week, August 2-7. Reservations are encouraged however due to limited numbers allowed. Wondering how far ahead some of you made your reservations. I’d like to reserve 2-3 days in advance to get a better grasp of the weather as everything is outside (interior is off limits at this time). Is that too late?

You should be fine getting tickets a few days in advance. Check out the Firt Ticonderoga website for more information about offerings and the schedule to plan your visit! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Does anyone know if the Fort is open or not? I looked at the website and all it mentions is some things will be open June 30th, but no mention about the current status.
Hello, Fort Ticonderoga will open its gates on June 30th. It is open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm (last entry 4:30 pm) until October 30, 2020. As of right now, just outdoor spaces are open and tickets must be purchased in advance online. There are NYS CDC guidelines to follow, more information can be found on the Fort Ticonderoga website.

I haven’t visited in over thirty years. I will be bringing my family and I am thinking about doing the Lake Champlain cruise in July. I noticed that the fort closes at 5:00 and the boat departs at 6:30. Are we allowed to remain on the grounds while awaiting the departure?

Fort Ticonderoga looks forward to your visit in July! We know you'll love the sunset boat cruise. Evenings on Lake Champlain are spectacular!
The site does close at 5pm so if you are visiting during the day, you'll need to depart at 5pm and come back for the sunset cruise. You may want to consider taking the Mount Defiance Tour at 4pm (part of the daily admission ticket). When that tour is over at 5pm, you can go into the Town of Ticonderoga for dinner. There are several options including Olives Pizza, the Hot Biscuit, Emeralds II and a few others. If you just want a snack and a delicious ice cream cone or other ice cream treat, head over to The Wind Chill. There is also a small putt-putt course nearby The Wind Chill which could be fun for an hour or so before you head back to Fort Ticonderoga. Just some ideas to help plan your visit! We look forward to seeing you next month! Beth L. Hill, Fort Ticonderoga, President & CEO

We will be staying in Shelburne and want to go to Fort Ticonderoga... should we drive there or take the Ti Ferry, or bring our car on the Ti Ferry. If we don’t bring our car on the ferry how do we get from ferry to fort? Is it walkable or should we bring our car? Thank you

By all means just drive to the fort, it's about an hour drive from Shelburne. This way you don't have to worry about any other transportation.

If my family visits on the day of a reenactment, will we get to see and do everything? Or will some exhibits and activities be limited on those days?

If we go in the fall during the week, will the docents be in period clothing and will there be demonstrations or does that just happen on weekends or during the summer?

How long does the cannon demonstration last? I'm taking a school group, and we need to leave at 2:15, and the demo is at 2pm. Will we be able to see anything?
Bob and Joan
West Oneonta, NY168 contributi
Although we did not see the entire Cannon Demonstration, as a teacher, I believe you may be cutting it short and could not see the entire demonstration unless they could demonstrate a bit earlier..............
