Been going there for years. Sledding when I was young. Learned to ski there. Watch sunsets over the lake. Great view of Buffalo and on clear days you can see the mist of Niagara Falls. Walking and biking on pave roads. Walking through the woods. You can spend as hour watching the sunset or a full day picnicking. Great solo or with a family. Been there by myself and for a high school reunion. Clear and safe. The county park staff does a great job.

08/15/29. Our monthly dinner group now does picnics. We get a Wegmans sub and head for the designated park. We bring our own chairs and socially distance, the eat, drink and socialize.
Great Park, beautiful evening sunset at the top of the hill.
It was a clear night we could see Niagara Falls Canada on the horizon as well as downtown Buffalo.
Next time we will need to come and enjoy the park more and hike to the Eternal Flame

Trails, swings, picnic areas, Disc (Frisbee) Golf, sledding, and tobogganing in the winter, there is so much to do in this park. About a mile south is the beginning of the trail to the Eternal Flame (Burning Springs)...a nature gas leak behind a waterfall that is usually already lit. Worth the hike to see it.
We spent some time driving on both sides of the park (split by Chestnut Ridge Road), stopping along the way to enjoy the birds and scenery. Sitting at a picnic table at the top of the sledding hill we enjoyed the view and Tim Horton's coffee and tea with some Fowler's Sponge Candy. With connections to Western New York, Chestnut Ridge Park is a teenage haunt of mine, it was nice to see that the park is still so well maintained. We also took a moment to pay our respects at the AFL-CIO Worker Memorial which honors union workers who lost their lives while on the job.

Love walking here on a weekday morning. Lots of people around but not crowded. Park loop off Newton road is a little over four miles, slightly hilly thru most but one big hill about half way thru. Casino side of park has some rolling hills but is generally easier to walk. There are some off road trails but I usually just stay on the paved roadway while walking.

The park has two side off of the major highway. In the winter time the larger side is open for sledding, tobogganing and a tow line for skiing. There is a nice snow lodge and various shelters for picnics (which can be reserved for use). A nice place for walks with nature and view the city skyline.

It needs a double 5 in nthe ratings. The eternal flame falls is something one can not even imagine. The park is a simple straight nature on its own but the perenniel flame behind a sheet of falling water is mesmerising and etheral. Never heard of such a phenomenon anywhere. The travelling expenditure from South Asia to to North America was justified by this single mind boggling sight. The location seems to have a natural large gas well which sustains the flame in the cave behind the falling waters.
Notwithstanding the fantastic experience, it seems that there is little awareness of this attraction created by the authorities. It can comepete on favourable terms with Niagara as a tourist spot provided maintained and marketed properly.
At present access by public ransport is unthinkable we need a rented or own car to reach there.

Chestnut Ridge Park is wooded and hilly so the biking and hiking are great. The view of the City of Buffalo from the Casino is spectacular.

The hours of operation state it’s closed on Sunday. Is it possible to access the park or is it gated?
Scritta in data 10 giugno 2018
Chestnut Ridge Park is not closed on Sundays.
The office may be closed but the park is wide open.
Sunday is one of the busiest days in the park.
The park is usually open all year long from 7am to dusk.
They close the gates for the loop roads at dusk.
If you are planning to use one of the many shelters you will
need a reservation. There are many places to picnic if you do
not need an entire shelter.

The hours say its only open M-F 8:00 to 3:30. Can this be true? You can visit the Eternal flame on weekends or holidays?
Scritta in data 25 maggio 2017
I don't know what time it is officially open. I thought it was dusk to dawn. I have definitely been there until dark on many occasions. Some people also go there near the casino to watch the sun come up. It is open for sure on weekends as well! Many people picnic there with families.
