Very interesting, informative and pleasant walk on a Sunday 10/10
ott 2021 • Coppie
My wife and I spent most of the day Sunday 10/10 visiting this place and enjoyed it very much. From about 10:30 am to closing at 4 pm.
Picture of a map with list of buildings is attached.

Of the 49 restored/ relocated buildings here we visited all but about 6-7 that were closed.

Representative pictures of the site are attached.

Many had a person in period costume giving information about the building or activity associated with it.

All the people here were very friendly and provided interesting information or demonstrations ( i. e. Blacksmith, tinsmith, weaving, farm animals, making apple cider, etc).

We also listened to an informative presentation about the Genesee Valley canal, no longer a canal but now a greenway by Janice-Mary who was also the docent in the Hamilton house #47. She did a very good job at both. Picture of her during the canal talk is attached.

Disappointment
giu 2021
We wanted to visit the Genesee Country Village & Museum when in the area; however, we were not able to. A flyer advertising the village and their website listed days of operation and hours, and we drove there planning to spend part of the day. When we arrived shortly after 10:00, advertised opening time, there were four or five cars in the parking lot but everything was locked up and dark. No one seemed was around.
It was like a ghost town. There wasn't even a sign on any of the doors indicating that they were closed.

Still the peaceful place I remember
mag 2021
I spent countless hours here with my children when I lived in Rochester. Went back today and it is still the interesting, rambling, pastoral, beautiful place that I remember. I love it here so very much.

Fun relaxing fall day
ott 2020 • Amici
The cooper I found was The most interesting craft and he took the time to explain who he made the butter-churn and the buckets. We really enjoyed it when they called the Oxen and they came up to plow the field. The entire experience was very educational. .

Highly Recommend!
ago 2020
WOW! A short distance from Buffalo (shorter from Rochester) and a gem of a place to visit. Had no idea that the "village" was so big and ended up only seeing half of it! We will certainly be back! If you like history then this place is a must! For example, one of the houses was lived in by George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak, when he was a young boy. The docents are all so nice and they are insightful and interesting. Still amazed that for $18 a person ($16 if you are a AAA member!) you have admission to a wonderful collection of buildings that are all "native" to NY! This place is huge! Had such a wonderful time and really wish we arrived earlier in the day so we could have experienced the entire "village". Highly recommend!

Always a pleasant place to stroll around and visit historic homes.

History of early New York classically laid out with docents to explain what you are seeing. A great area to get a sense of what life was like 100 years ago or more.

Yuletide in the Country
dic 2019
This was our second time attending Yuletide in the Country and it was once again a unique and lovely experience. The buildings were decorated beautifully for the holidays and the actors did a wonderful job, as did the tour guide. This year’s presentation portrayed the holiday traditions from various countries which was educational and entertaining. I would highly recommend!

Not What It Used To Be
dic 2019
We have visited the Genesee Country Village and Museum multiple times but this was our first trip back in about a dozen years. We had great anticipation leading into our visit but left underwhelmed. Several of the shops in the village were closed - including perennial favorite General Store, and in some of the ones that were open the staff/volunteers did not appear thrilled to be there. The Blacksmith Shop, always a good one, was reduced to a $3.00 money grab to make a cheap tin ornament. Yes, we got to see the Octagon House, one of our faves, but after a forty minute ride we were in and out in less than 75 minutes. We came with high expectations and left feeling it was a bust.

Hi Joe, I am so sorry to hear that your visit was less than you hoped for. We're so lucky to have visitors such as yourself, who plan return trips time and time again throughout the years. While I am glad to see that you were able to visit the Octagon House, (also one of our favorites!), it sounds as though you may have missed the Black Smith shop, and rather came across our Tin Smith Shop where we offer our guests a chance to try their hand at a 19th-Century tin ornament. We would truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience with you further. Please feel free to contact us directly at info@gcv.org Thank you for your feedback - we hope to hear from you soon! Sara Tone

Beautiful winter tour
dic 2019 • Coppie
It was a beautiful winter lantern tour to see other country Holiday traditions we also had the Yuletide dinner after. The food was “ok” I wouldn’t pay 60 for 2 dinners again. I wish when I called they would’ve allowed me to bring my wheelchair I could’ve used it by parking it at the houses and walked into the houses. I really wanted to see it so I did walk it but it was not easy for me. I did enjoy and absorbed the history.
