Joyce in the rental dept was excellent and encouraging. The skii rental people should have given me 150s (cautious) instead of 130s. I enjoyed it otherwise.

Stayed at the perfect little airbnb right at the base of the mountain. We took the Scenic Ride chairlift and then hiked to the firetower. The views were incredible. The staff working both the mountain and the fire tower were very friendly and super informative.

Our pass was taken by the mountain. I sent the below explanation for a difficult time. I followed up today and realized this email was received and rejected but they did not have the decency to respond. Horrible company.
Email sent to vail resorts and Hunter mountain:
My wife's 6-day Epic card was inappropriately taken at Hunter mountain by the customer service agent Kierstan. I would like to request that it be returned. My wife has been in Florida for the past two-weeks with her sick mother who sadly passed away two days later. I have been in New York with my 3 kids and decided to take them skiiing as a distraction on 2/13/22 at Hunter. At the last minute, I decided to take my 10-year old nephew with us to help teach him skiing. Since he is only 10 and my wife could not be there, I decided to use her more expenive adult pass for him. We have also had to cancel a trip to Okemo becuase we caught Covid over the holidays and also missed a day at Stowe when the temperatures went to -20F. It had become unlikely that we would use all 6 days of our Epic passes.
At Hunter, we were taken off line because we did not have the correct pass. We were brought to customer service. I had spent so much money on our family's five 6-day passes, have been going through a tough time and disageed with the policy. I was angry with the policy at customer service and had a raised but respectful voice (i.e. never personally attacking, name-calling or cursing). After explaning my rationale, the customer service agent Supervisor Kierstan came over and imediately seized my wife's pass for the season. This was cruel and a significant financial seizure. I then paid for my nephew's 1-day pass in order to avoid ruining the children's day further and left.
I ask that you consider the above and please return my wife's pass with the remaining 4-days so I can give it back to her when she returns.

So despite having lived in the NE for 25 years I've done most of my skiing in VT, this was the first time to Hunter, and despite all the hate and disappointment I saw in these reviews I have to say it was a pretty good day. Conditions were not ideal - as with all over, they desperately need snow - but setting that aside and focusing on what the mountain can do for itself in terms of accommodating guests it was a really good experience. Took two teenagers who are average skiers, arrived early (around 8:30am) to find plenty of free parking up close, scanned in to get the lift tickets then breezed through rentals - everyone super friendly and helpful throughout. We were on the lift by 9:05, and the day was delightful! The cost of skiing - lift tickets, rentals, food/bev - is formidable anywhere and has been on a precipitous rise for many years, so Hunter is no exception, but all in all I'd score this higher than my expectations. Ski on people!

This mountain was not the top of the area hills that we skied. We were there mid week and the place was not busy. That did not stop the militant attitude in the clubhouse. Clearly they did not make snow like the other locations. We had a good time but, attitude could have been better.

I have been coming to Hunter Mountain for over 10 years. My children learned to ski here. I will never come back. The place I once loved has been destroyed by Vail resorts. I stood in a 50 minute line to get on my first lift of the day. The runs were all ice. The number of people at the mountain was more than I've ever seen and we always come President's weekend. We ended up leaving mid day because we really weren't having much fun. I do not recommend anyone coming here.

I have been skiing in Hunter for 20 years and used to love it. Since Vail Resorts bought the place I came to hate it. It was possible to have a few decent runs in the morning but recently even at 10am you can expect a 45min wait to get on any lift. Why some lifts are not turned on? Why do they not bother to open the West Side even when there is plenty of snow? Greed maybe and/or a total disrespect for the people who pay as much as $92 for a day pass.

I’ve skied all over the world and this is the worst resort I’ve ever been to. The lines for the lifts and the food hall completely ruin the whole experience, because you simply can’t ski as much as you’d like, or have time to eat. Clearly whoever is running this place is just being greedy, I actually felt sorry for the staff because they are doing their best but there are just too many people for this place to be enjoyable. It’s also the most expensive day’s skiing we’ve ever done. Go to Europe, it’s never this bad anywhere there.

This season like last has been an absolute sh-- show. Instead of employee strikes shutting down the whole mountain after it opens for the day (that Vail Resorts will blame on COVID) this year we have no parking, hour long lift lines, a complete dining area cluster f---, and less than par grooming conditions. Like many others, I was at the mountain during MLK weekend and either they lost their maintenance crew or they grossly oversold tickets for the weekend. On Sunday morning my husband dropped me off at 9:45am to bring our son to ski school and literally with no exaggeration drove around for 2 hours to try and find parking....he eventually did but only after ski school was coming to an end. If you do not have the staff to plow the parking lots and run a resort as it should be run then you need to close or only sell lift tickets for the amount of skiers you are able to accommodate. The lift lines are another story...prepare to drive hours to only do a few runs because your day is spend standing in lines. The dining room is another monster. Sure you can make a reservation to sit in the cafeteria for your 45 min allotment or you can skip it and just say you are grabbing food to go or are using the bathroom and you can steal someone else's table because there is literally no rhyme or reason to this system. I already cancelled all my reservations for Presidents Weekend because I refuse to waste all that money and time to put my family through that mess again.....find another mountain!

How is this place around Easter weekend? I’ve never skiied or snowboarded before and want to take my preteens for a 4-5 day Easter weekend this year. What should i expect or how do i even begin to plan this type of trip?

Hi Globe, I would follow accuweather and/or the weather channel. Weather is not a 100% exact science and the storm track could always change. Also, make sure you have a full tank of gas and a car with 4wd or good snow tires to get through the snow if there is any. As of right now it looks like snow showers only. I would also check with the lodge as to their cancellation policy. Have fun and be safe!

We are driving from NJ to the catskills region. We have 3 full days & 2 nights. I'd like suggestions on eating, scenic spots, some night life. Hiking trails ect. We are going the last wknd in September. Driving up the Hudson as I'm right across the Hudson from NYC. We've done research but just looking for 1st hand input on must see things. Thank you!

Some restaurant suggestions are:
Jessie's Harvest House (excellent food)
Last Chance Cheese (good for lunch or dinner)
Van Winkle's Restaurant (in the hotel on the mountain)
Catskill Mtn Country Store (good for breakfast or lunch)
There are many hiking trails within North/South Lake park but will be busy on the weekends. You can take the Sky Ride at Hunter Mtn and hike to the fire tower where you'll have an incredible view. There are trail heads off of Rte 214 one of which will take you up to the fire tower . Be aware it's a steep hike. I suggest you look up hiking trails in the region to find what is best for your ability. There's also an information building in Haines Falls on 23a where they have lots of hiking info.
Oktober Fest is held at Hunter Mountain. As for nightlife, there really is none.
Have fun! It's a beautiful time of the year to be in Hunter.

Entre 25 de diciembre y 3 enero se puede encontrar nieve? Queremos ir para que nuestros hijos la conozcan

Hi! It all depends. Sometimes the Northeast has a good snowfall in December, especially during the latter parts. However some years they get none. There isn't much to do there if there isn't any snow. You may want to consider a mountain that has an indoor water park for your children in case skiing isn't an option. Enjoy!
