This new addition, a pedestrian walkway on the Henry Hudson Bridge between Catskill and Olana, is meant to connect the two major sites of the Hudson River painters' school--the Thomas Cole house in Catskill and the Frederick Church home/studio at Olana. It's in a very pretty part of the Hudson, and the skywalk is well maintained and seemingly popular, even on a weekday. There are small parks at either end of the span, and sufficient parking (at least on a weekday). We walked it in one direction, I going half-way across before I turned back and fetched the car to pick up my family on the other side. It's a lovely way to enjoy the river, with the added plus of the artists' studios/homes as the bases on either end. And the skywalk is free (although the Cole house and Olana both charge for tours). Worth a visit.

A nice walk across the Hudson River with outstanding views. The walk connects two historic sites relating to the Hudson River School movement in American art.

Yes, as other reviewers will tell you the Walkway by Poughkeepsie is better, but this is still nice, especially if you are in the area to visit the other nearby attractions, Yes, it’s narrow and there are cars whizzing by so it’s a bit noisy, but it is still very enjoyable with great views done and across the Hudson River. I feel that anything that opens up the water and enables us to enjoy nature more is a good thing! We were there for their annual arts fest and there is free parking on either side of the Walkway,

Just say no to this walk on a highway. Why in the world would anybody spend time walking across this busy and noisy bridge other than to get to the other side? The views are fine, sure, but not more so than those from the Olana/east side of the river or many other spots. No magic in seeing a beautiful setting when there are trucks and vans buzzing behind you incessantly (this is the only bridge for miles across the river and thus is active). On the plus side, walking says a $1.75 toll!

Not what we expected, but the fault lies with me. I confused this with a pedestrian-only bridge in Poughkeepsie. Therefore we were greatly disappointed. Don't know why anyone would want to walk on a bridge with traffic flying by you. To each their own.

We parked on the Catskill side; and walked out part way over the River.
The views were beautiful; though on our visit, the wind was quite strong, requiring a strong grip on one's cap.
The previous TA comments regarding the accompanying vehicle traffic, and comparisons to the Poughkeepsie Walkway, are worth noting.
If one has mobility issues, as we do, however; one advantage of this venue, is the relatively short walking distance from parking, to being able to enjoy views over the River.
For us, this feature was greatly appreciated.

A Nice walk and a nice view. Worth a Visit if you are in catskill NY. there is a parking area near by too.

Disappointed after walking the pedestrian bridge over the Hudson at Poukeepsie. No cars and you can cross back and forth to see both sides of the river. This Skywalk is simply a concrete walkway along a very busy bridge, cars passing 3-4 feet from you on the other side of a barrier at 40 mph. The walkway is on one side only and you look directly into the sun in the afternoon, difficult for photos. It will get you to the other side of the river but that is the only positive thing.

The Hudson River Skywalk should not be compared to the Walkway Over The Hudson. This is not a pedestrian only bridge, but it is still a nice walk with beautiful views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains!
