Very helpful local tourist office in Gansbaai where the local assistant went out of her way to highlight some of the local tourist ventures.

This little town is apparently a centre of the illegal trade in Abalone. Their shells are highly prized in the Far East. The smugglers use local divers to procure the shells and reputedly pay in drugs. Consequently, the drug problem in the town is significant....

Called in there for local map but out of stock. However got a list of things to do in the area which was helpful

Die netten Damen im Büro haben uns eine Lodge empfohlen und dort bzw. bei 2 weiteren B&B angerufen und freie Zimmer erfragt. Die Empfehlung hat gepasst und wir haben dort eingecheckt.

eigentlich war schon lange geschlossen, die freundliche Mitarbeiterin nahm uns trotzdem noch in Empfang. wir suchten eine Schiffstour für den nächsten Tag. Sie zeigte uns was es alles gibt und organisierte uns für den nächsten tag alles . Sehr nett und freundlich und auch die Tour am nächsten Tag war sehr gut. vielen dank dafür

Gleich zu Beginn unseres Aufenthaltes in Gansbaai kamen wir in das etwas verstaubt wirkende Tourismusbüro und waren ausgesprochen posirtiv überrascht über die sehr nette, kompetente und freundliche Beratung.

The location of this centre is easy to find... its on the left hand side of the Main road as you approach the town from the east, sited in the newly named "Great White Junction".
The tourism office occupies a corner site and the big green "I" is eyecatching!
The staff are friendly and eager to help and excellent ambassadors for their town. We found the pamphlets and maps we were given, of immense help and we were pleased that we popped in here at the start of our stay.
