First time visitors to Concord NH and to the beautiful and historic statehouse. We did not have a reservation which was completely fine. We just entered the Capitol at the front door, were greeted and then went into the Visitors Center in Room 119. Volunteer tour guide Philip provided a very informative and fun fact tour of the many rooms of the Capitol. Who knew this is the oldest continuously used legislative chamber in America? And that there are 400 elected State Representatives? Also, that there is one Representative per 3400 citizens of NH? And they are paid $100 per year? Our guide pointed out many famous portraits such as Lincoln, Washington and New Hampshire-born U.S. President Franklin Pierce. The visitor center was staffed by welcoming and helpful staff (lead by Virginia) who provided additional information about Concord and the Capitol. As visitors from Texas, this tour provided an excellent representation of Concord and the State. Totally a must see for Concord visitors.

I couldn't miss the opportunity to see one of the oldest state capitol buildings in the US.
Although I didn't arrive at suitable time to visit the interior, I was truly impressed by the exterior, especially the status/memorials around the building (a replica of the Liberty Bell, as well as recently installed statue of New Hampshire NASA champion Christa McAuliffe) , as well as the architecture the buildings close by (e.g. State Library, Historical Society, Legislative Building, etc.). The street directly in front of the building is also very charming
Definitely a must-stop if passing through the area and are visiting for the first time; hopefully you'll get a chance to take a guided tour inside :)

Visiting the capital in Concord was part of our New England tour. This was the most interesting experience we had. We certainly enjoyed the information about their infrastructure regarding politics. Both our guide for the tour and other capital staff were absolutely amazing.

While waiting for my husband to find parking I had the pleasure of walking through the ground of the Concord New Hampshire capital building. It was dusk and the street lights added a romantic atmosphere to the stately stone of the building. Several beautiful statues stood like sentinels and a grand arch welcomed visitors to the grounds. A beautiful place to visit even for a few minutes.

This was a neat capitol building. The grounds have several signs and statues of prominent NH figures. The Visitors Center provide a map of the building along with another pamphlet about all of the flags - original battle flags from the Civil War through WWII. I spent my time walking through the rooms and viewing the artifacts. Paid parking is available around the capitol.

We stopped by the New Hampshire State House twice during our overnight stay in Concord. The building is not big, more compact and stately with its gilt dome glinting from the sun. It was closed on Sunday afternoon so we checked out all the statuary and historic markers on the grounds. On Monday we returned and self-guided ourselves through the State House lobby and upstairs to see both the House and the Senate chambers (not in session). Not as impressive as other state capitol buildings, it has an air of history...the flag collection, the portraits, the historical scenes. Guided tours are available.

I arrived later in the day, so I didn't have a chance to view the inside, but the grounds and the building itself are interesting. It sits right near all of the downtown businesses too. Some good local restaurants were still open in the early evening.
Around the building are statues of famous New Hampshire people. They were nicely done.

Our family makes it a point to visit state houses when we can. We have seen some magnificent buildings. Unfortunately this was not a tour we enjoyed. The building was nice, but there really was not anything to see inside except portraits of past governors. Guided tour took about 20 minutes and was basically just walking around looking at these paintings.

My family of 5 visited on a Tuesday afternoon. The building itself is not have ornate as many other capitol buildings but there is a lot of history inside. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and engaging with my kiddos. Definitely worth the stop and at no cost.

Is the statehouse open for tours now?

No it is closed. We hope to reopen perhaps in the fall but please check in before planning a visit. There is a lovely outside grounds self guided tour and most of our city shops and restaurants are open.

Parking is very tough around the Statehouse, particularly on legislative days, usually Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. There are parking garages South of the Statehouse, but they are several blocks away.
If you do park on the street, pay particular attention to the meter. Some of the meters are only two-hour meters, some are four hour meters, etc.
