Not a review though the park was very nice & staff were helpful, but a request. We left binoculars at a table by the fishing pier & when we relaized it about 20 min later, they were gone. We had hoped someone would turn them in but as of today, the person who took them hasn't returned them.
These binoculars were a gift from my husband & I would love to have them back.
Please return them to the ranger's office. No questions asked.

This was the last of our tour of SE Mn State Parks. We found it to be the most walkable of all the parks we went to. For the most part it was flat, no steep hills and wide well marked paths.
The only downside is that it rainrd the night before and the trails are packed dirt so they were very slick and hard to walk on. There is a State Bike Trail that is paved and runs thru the park so if the weather is bad stick to that trail.

I rode a E-Bike from Morristown to Elysian and back with a stop at Sakatah State Park for some information. Very helpful attendant, answered my questions.

We stopped to check out the park and to do some hiking. We stopped at the park office to get a map. The ranger was most helpful!

We did the Wahpekute trail along the lake. It was pretty narrow at times. There were some low trees we had to duck under or step over. We walked on the state bike trail back to our car.

The park is beautiful with many nice hiking trails and a beautiful picnic area and fishing dock on the lake. The campsites were well spread out and wooded. The park rangers at the headquarters building were very friendly and helpful. Easy access to the Sakatah Singing Hills bike trail, it was a short bike ride from the campground. Camp restrooms and facilities were nice and clean, they even had a nice fish cleaning house. This place would be perfect if it was not for the road noise from nearby Highway 60. The road noise did not diminish at night, all night long they were very noisy semi trucks going by. The park is located between Faribault and Mankato and apparently this is a very busy truck route.
The road noise sort of took away the wilderness experience from what is a beautiful park and campground. If not for the road noise this park would be one of my favorite state parks, but I probably won’t be back. It’s pretty sad that you have to wear earplugs when you are camping to drown out road noise so you can sleep. Yes, I can read a map and saw the proximity of the highway to the park before I went there, but had no idea this highway was just as busy as an Interstate!

The park is pretty private. Covid has shut down things like showers and flushing toilets, that’s to be expected. Don’t know that I’d be doing it now even if they were available.
The biggest thing that bothered me about this park was the 24/7 semi trucks on 60, nothing the park could do about it really, but coming from the city I just want to hear the wind threw the trees, the animals, and the fire.
Overall staff is super friendly. When we got here the one outhouse by our campsite had a major #2 explosion. They cleaned it shortly after we said something.
All this said. If you’re camping during a very hot weekend this would be a great place. Plenty of shade!

Stayed 2 nights midweek in early September in an A-frame pop-up camper at an electric site. Dry weather. Wooded site with decent privacy between sites, though no one was on either side of us. Site plenty wide and long for camper + car = 32 ft. We walked on the Singing Hills Bike Trail through the park and definitely want to come back with bikes. Not too buggy. The lake had the usual late season algae, so no thoughts of swimming. Would have considered kayaking, but didn't see any rentals available (after Labor Day). Enjoyed sunsets both nights from the east end of the lake with the cormorant rookery in easy view. Close easy access to town in you need anything. Found Indian Pipe in the site next to mine - first time I have ever seen it, so that was special. Jack-in-the-pulpits were scattered in woods - super bright red phallic stalk with tightly packed berries. Overall, a somewhat understated, but peaceful and relaxing place. Could be a different story when wet - the camp sites are mostly packed dirt. Could benefit from a layer of gravel.

If you want deep woods with no sun and muddy wet time then this is a great place. The roads were gravel several years ago but now just a muddy mess. Our camp site put the fire pit on the back side of our camper. Yes the site was secluded and if you like damp and dark with getting eaten up by the biggest horse flys I have ever seen then this place if perfect for you. Could not walk any where with out getting covered in mud. Decided to leave after only one night. Its been 4 days and I still cant get anyone to Cancel my reservation or call me back. NOT Happy with Minnesota state parks at all. Now on a good note the Bike trail was paved and would be a great ride. We walked it with the dogs. But dont ever expect to see the lake.

We have an RV and camp a few times a month at different camp grounds around Minnesota. While spending the weekend at Camp Maiden Rock West, we found this great bike/ hiking trail and road it about 3 miles through the Sakatah Lake State Park and into Waterville to pick up some fresh vegetables. This trail is a great ride and there are several rest stops with benches and small lean to's in case of rain. The canopy of trees over the trail gives you protction from the sun and rain but dont forget the bug spray.
Areas off the trail that you can hike and sit by the lake.
