As a tourist attraction it is only interesting from the outside and of course the location. I recommend restoring it and turning it into a five-star heritage hotel.

Rani ghat palace was a wonderful experience. I was there in Jan, 2022 and entrance ticket allowed to walk around the palace but not inside the palace. Nevertheless, the palace property is clean and well maintained. View is breathtaking. Palace is in a great location. While visiting Ranighat palace, I would recommend walking across the suspension bridge that will take you to Syangja district.

Either you go for a long hike to reach Ranimahal or you drive over there, even busses are running. The former king builded this palace for his whife after she passed away - nowadays a police station calles this place it's home. Completely in white, next to Khali Ghandaki the "Nepali Taj Mahal" is absolutely beautiful and worth a visit.
By the way: Opposite you'll find a place to stay overnight - sleep in cosy tents and have a beach party!

This palace is beautiful and located in remote area of Palpa, Nepal. View of kaligandaki next to palace is ank their attraction of this place. Road to g there is little danger but it worth after you see this place.

Alles in allem äußerst enttäuschend

We had out driver take us half way down to the Palace but it was still a little bit of a hike from there. It is hard to comprehend that such a beautiful building just sits there on the edge of the river with no one residing in it! Not much to see other than the Palace but worth it for a half day trek.

We were a little confused about what the actual route was to Ranighat. GETUP is reported to sell a guide/map, but when we went the guy said there was none and we should just follow Rani Mahal Road on Google maps. So we just took the path starting from near Hotel Srinagar, using maps.me to navigate. It was an easy to follow route once we got onto Rani Mahal Road. Lots of friendly locals and beautiful scenery on the hike. A few shops were selling water/snacks along the way. All downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back. The palace is a cool sight from the outside, although it is empty. There was a restaurant selling noodles and one selling dahl baht. Took us 3 hours down, 2 hours to get halfway back up, then some locals gave us a lift the rest of the way up. Highly recommended day trip from Tansen!

By 7am we were out the door to hike to Ranigaut aka Ranimahal. It was completely downhill on the way there and likewise uphill on the return. The path began just a short distance from where we were staying in Tansen. Thankfully our friend who speaks Nepali pretty much knew what he was doing and when he wasn’t sure about the unmarked path he asked the villagers which way to go. We reached Ranigaut by 9:30am after a stop for chai (milk tea w sugar, cardamom) x20min just before “fishing resort”-apparently the older gentleman that owns quite a bit of the land on that hill. We passed through quite a few villages and saw cows, goats, buffalo, ladies carrying pails of water held in baskets strapped across their foreheads, ladies washing clothes at the public taps, freshly painted houses (just after holiday season), several chai stands, lotsa mopeds/motorcycles and vans (but not another single hiker) full of folks headed to Ranigaut. Thanks to our friend we took a few shortcut paths that were quite steep/slippery but most of the way we were on either gravel or mud roads. When we got to the bottom we first ordered our dal bhat (telling them we'd be ready to eat in 1h) and we went to explore. We hopped over a stream to get to the big suspension bridge and walked across. The bridge was in decent shape. Folks were camping on the ranigaut side and the other side of the Kali Gandaki river. Not much to do on the other side of the river so we came back and went to explore the palace that king built for his wife in 1890s. it was rubble by end of 20th c and its been restored in last ?10y. it’s a big empty open-air palace that we quickly toured. There were nice views of the river, mountains, valley, beaches, bridge. We ate tasty dal bhat (Rs530 for 3 people)- and it’s all you can eat (typical for Nepali restaurant dal bhat). It took a while to prepare but was worth it…we hung out around Ranigaut for ~1h 40min and then we headed back UP the trail…and it was pretty hot/sunny. We made it back up in ~2h 15min (faster than on the way down- prob bc we didn’t stop for tea and we didn’t go so slow on the slippery rocks going up). we were worn out and had earned our showers. Our watch said we went 15.6mi and 31,054 steps. Our friend has done this with their kids, but most folks with kids (and there were lotsa school children there) took jeeps down/back.
