We stopped here going from Greenville, MS to Poverty Point, LA sited along beautiful Lake Providence. The ripe cotton ready for harvest surrounded the setting of old sharecropper houses and equipment sheds. I was impressed with all the old tractors and wagons while my wife couldn't get over the crude living and hard work.

We were in Lake Providence as visitors and I've been there before but never had time to visit the Louisiana State Cotton Museum. We made time and what a great stop. The volunteers running the site really know their history and clearly love what they do here. It does not take a long time. I think we spent 2 hours or so but what a great way to learn about the history of cotton in Louisiana as you get to tour real historic buildings. And their cotton gin, wow that thing is HUGE. Plus they have a smaller one.. Totally recommend the Louisiana State Cotton Museum as a way to really get a feel for history.

My wife and I were driving by and decided to stop by. The museum was closed due to Memorial Day, but we gave ourselves a self-guided tour. So much history here, I can only how much more I would have learned with a knowledgeable your guide. Definitely have to stop by again when it's open.

This is a wonderful museum and the tour guide was fantastic! We almost missed out on it due to road construction blocking the entrance but I called and the tour guide told us another way to get in. I'm so glad we did! It was informative, interactive, well kept up. There was so much there that we weren't able to see all of it on our time schedule so we'll be returning when we can! I definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in cotton, civil war, history of the area, farming, machinery, etc.

As we were driving, noticed the Cotton Museum. Had to stop. We're glad we did.
Warmly welcomed at the main plantation home and gift area. Were surprised at the great items in the main home, then proceeded to the actual museum. Tangie was our tour guide. She was great; knowledgeable, engaging and extremely caring towards the history and hard work of those who made the museum possible.
Highly recommend stopping at visiting the Cotton Museum.

Our son and daughter in law recently got married at the Louisiana Cotton Museum. We put on a car show wedding.
The space was wonderful. The accommodations are top rate!! The employees all are great people. They made sure every area was cleaned and to our specifications within the regulations of the state (which we were given well in advance) and they worked with us for months to ensure our time there was perfect. I highly recommend this for weddings, parties, reunions, etc.

Very nice museum, free entrance! Barbara is very sweet, she knows a lot of things about cotton and plantation. I really enjoyed this place! Must stop

They were closed on the day we came through this area so I cannot speak to what's available here inside the museum. I did stop and enjoy the outside grounds though and this is a fantastic spot. The barn has signs up about farming changes that took place in history such as plowing etcetera and the buildings and grounds are neat and well kept here. Good place to learn history and enjoy this museum. Easy to get to alongside the highway just before you get to the Dock restaurant in Lake Providence.

The lady who works the main building is awesome! She sounds like Paula Deen. She knows a lot about cotton and the history. Nicely restored buildings and old cotton gin. Hands-on separating cotton seed from cotton. Beautiful setting with large pecan trees and benches. Free.
