We were told condors appear only in the afternoons, but we had only a short morning. We spotted one in the valley below at 9:42 a.m., and 13 minutes later it soared up over our heads and beyond the mountain behind us. We were lucky.

This is a relatively easy trail, being only about 3.4km each way, and it is VERY scenic!
The trail winds gently up and down along the side of a short, deep 'stub' valley, then turns the corner into a deep a very deep, narrow valley. The trail is well above the Jungle, and is about 2000m above the river below. The only steep part is the final 300m down to the viewpoint along several switchbacks, but even that's not to bad. (its not relentless!) This is good acclimatization hike as well.
There are many different native plants, including flowers along the way and Cuy and even Puma can be seen. We saw Condors almost immediately after leaving the parking/entrance area as well as Eagles and Hawks.
If your interested in only the hike, a guide is not really necessary, but if you really want a great experience, get a good guide that knows the local flora & fauna and history.
The actual viewpoints- one about 100m above the other - are on a small 'peninsula' jutting out into the valley, wayyyyy above the river below. The ridgeline rising up behind you is all rocky crags and arêtes and lots of avian life can be seen there as well!
Our guide Alex brought his own 80x spotter-scope and tripod - which had to be heavy - and which he set up frequently and thus we saw lots of things we wouldn't have normally been able to see. Alex was obviously very passionate about this area and his patience and enthusiasm really made this trip.
Despite that this can easily be done in one day from Cusco, we only ever saw one other couple, it's not crowded in the least.
We used Rainbow Mountain Expeditions (Roger) in Cusco, and set up everything online with him. RME provided chef-cooked breakfast and lunch so we were well fed. There was hot tea and biscuits awaiting us on our return!
Originally I was not overly enthusiastic about this specific trip, as I was more interested in Day 2 & 3 - This was day one of a three day trip - but it turned out to be a really GREAT day! I am very glad we did it!
The hike and viewpoints are worth it on their own, especially if you like stunning views and no crowds, oh and the occasional Condor. But I must give Alex credit as his knowledge and obvious enthusiasm are what really made this trip!
We learned a lot, got some exercise, and saw some stunning views!
And the best part is I got to share this with my lovely Wife! Who as it turns out, likes this mountain stuff!
Thank You to Rainbow Mountain Expeditions, Alex, and Roger! It was a great trip!
