We visited the Pink Elephant Antique Mall as part of a trip along the old Route 66. If you are here for that reason, because you like roadside attractions like old Muffler Men, or just want to see some weird mid-century modern stuff, this has them in spades. If not this might not be your thing.

Many Route 66 guides list this attraction because of the tall fiberglass figures outside, including a big pink elephant (hence the name), another gray elephant sprouting out the side of the building, a "Uniroyal Gal," 1-1/2 flying saucers, and Muffler Man. There is a kind of retro diner there and a somewhat nostalgic candy store.

The building is housed in what appears to be an old school building with a large gym packed with stalls. There are thousands of objects for sale - I'm not sure that most would qualify as antiques, but we liked seeing odd things like "uranium glass" dishes, cookie jars, odd salt and paper shakers (like monkeys with fezzes), etc.. It was just fun to poke around.

This is a great stop if you are touring the Old Route 66 or if you just like Americana. Others might want to skip it.

Such a cool place to stop. I've had this antique mall / shop on my list for a while and I'm glad I had the chance to stop finally. The store is divided up in the four sections - main gym, the stage, upstairs and downstairs. The main gym floor and the stage are packed with different booths / vendors. The upstairs and downstairs are much more sparsely filled. If you're on a bit of a time crunch, I'd skip those two areas entirely to focus on the main level areas.

We had lunch at the Twistee Treat Diner, it was pretty good. No frills, quick service meals (we got the burger meal and a grilled chicken sandwich, and went back for dessert) at a decent price. We didn't make it over to the fudge shop, but it looked tasty from a distance.

The only downfall for me was that some of the vendors just stuff every item possible onto their shelves and it's impossible to really see what they have. Some people love having to dig to find hidden treasures, it's just not for me. There are plenty of booths that are more organized, though.

We were looking for a day trip and decided to make a two hour drive based on reviews. I was very disappointed. We love antique malls and have been to hundreds. The chaos in this one was overwhelming. Things were just shoved into spaces. That along with the high prices made this a bad experience for us.

Lots of booths & lots of stuff! People were very friendly and the prices we saw looked mostly reasonable! What a great, unexpected stop!

Driving up and seeing the giant Trump statue was almost enough to make us turn around and leave. If we hadn't driven as far as we did we would have just left. Why some business owners feel the need to shove this loser down their patron's throats is beyond me.

As an antique mall it's a mixed bag. Some booths are organized and tidy, but most just have stacks of stuff just crammed into and onto shelves. There's no way on planet earth that most of this stuff will ever be sold, because most of it is impossible to see (unless you rummage through everything, and I'm not about to do that). It's almost as though some of the dealers would rather rent a booth instead of paying for a storage unit somewhere.

Astonishingly, I did manage to find something, and it was reasonably priced. Still, if the owners had a policy that booths must be tidy, and items must be clearly seen, I've no doubt I would have found more. But I guess as long as dealers are paying the rent the owners don't care that they're making it nearly impossible to provide a good shopping experience to their customers.

I will say, the lady at the candy store was very friendly. We actually spent more there than at the antique mall.

In the end we were less than impressed, and don't really see a need to return.

A lot of individual booths of old antiques. Rooms and rooms full. But most of it we were not interested in. They have a wonderful ice cream shop next door where we enjoyed hot fudge sundaes. They also have a candy shop attached with old fashioned candy. Lastly, they have lots statues and things outside for photo taking. They have a statue of the former president there, with a sign saying that they are not making a political statement. But just having it there, makes their statement.

Very helpful staff but far too many new things to call it an Antique Mall.
Did find an Illinois license plate for our collection.
Some strangely magnetic stuff in the yard outside.

Hadn't visited before but seen it everytime driving between STL and Springfield. Decided to stop by and look at antiques - not disappointed! The mall itself had a great selection - we'll have to go back to finish! The fudge shop was outstanding! The ice cream store - same thing - great!

Prices are a little high as you would expect at an Antique store but the selection is pretty amazing. It is worth stopping if just to walk around. Located right on the Historia Route 66. Icecream shop was not open on Sunday when we stopped by but I would have loved to try it.

We are not “antique people” but we looked around for a while (to my way of thinking overpriced junk) - didn’t see anything we couldn’t live without. But if traveling Rt. 66, this is worth a look if for no other reason than the artifacts on the grounds - took some pictures. We shared a hot fudge sundae in the cafe it was good.
