This bird sanctuary is situated opposite of the MOTe marine aquarium in Sarasota. It is not integrated into the aquarium and you have to pay an extra entrance fee(10$adults,6$children), but this is used for feeding the birds.
The collection of birds is wide and each one of them is or was injured. Some can' see properly any more, some have artificial legs....Everything in this place is nice and quiet and you can relax in the shade, listening to the birds.
There is 1 pelican there that' s beak was partly pulled away by a fisherman who cried:"You eat too much fish"!.Can you believe such a behavior?
There are tropical birds, too, which were set free by their owners. And owls, which were wounded by cars...
Everything is explained on an introduction paper that you get at the entrance.
I just can recommend to visit this ülace. I was there with my 14 year old daughter and she was really impressed.

This is a small exhibit dedicated to rescuing injured birds. It is mostly a self guided. If you like birds this is a good stop.

We stopped by SOS after visiting the Mote and we're so glad we did! We're big into animals and animal rescue and this was such a wonderful place. Those working with the birds truly enjoy what they do.

Save our Seabirds is by far one of the most amazing attractions in Longboat Key/Sarasota area. They are a bird rescue and really do a TON for the birds in this area.

The volunteers are very helpful and friendly. They answered all of my questions and went above and beyond to give us information about specific birds. They are also all about education and they really want to help teach.

They are also a great place to call if you have an injured bird. We found an injured heron and they went right out to help and ended up releasing him after providing him the care he needed.

I look forward to visiting SOS every year. THANK YOU SOS staff for all the work that you do for the birds and the community.

We called this organization when we noticed a bird in trouble at our pond and they provided the right advice.

This is a wonderful place to visit with friends or family. It is great to see that so many birds were rescued and are taken care of. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful.
On a side note: while walking the beach one morning I noticed a heron had a hook stuck in his throat. We called Save Our Seabirds and they sent someone out to catch the bird. They removed 2 hooks and were able to release him the same day. GREAT JOB!!

This is a great place run by great people doing great things, but not so much geared toward the general public. There are a wide variety of local birds to see, most of which are fascinating. The pelican enclosure has a whole population of pelicans with prosthetic legs. It's touching to see. It's hard to rate this highly when there is no indoor section, no gift shop, cafe, or other real public-oriented facilities, but if you want to do something nice for the local wildlife, come here and pay to get in. Your money really does go toward saving the sea birds. This place is good to visit for an hour or so after visiting the Mote. They share the same parking lot.

SOS works strictly with sick and/or injured birds and allows them to recover. A non-benifit company it is great to see all the volunteers doing good for the local aviary population!

Nice place to visit. Well laid out and informative. Nice to see people caring about birds. A pleasant way to spend an hour or so. Not too expensive. Keep up the good work.
