Do not miss this if you are interested in learning some of the local history. The exhibits are interesting and the stories told by the lady working there were even better.

What a great place to visit! Extensive and interesting, especially because of the caretaker’s knowledge and excellent storytelling. More interactive than you might expect, there are fun, kid-friendly things to do and touch here. So glad we wandered over after lunch nearby on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend!

Carabelle has long touted what is supposedly the "world's smallest police station." which is an old roadside pay phone booth. Carabelle should be equally proud of their history museum, a "shoe string operation" that through creativity and grit far exceeds the quality of a number of substantially better heeled facilities I have visited.

Tamara, the engaging Director, is a volunteer (you couldn't pay anyone to be that dedicated and knowledgeable), who makes the place come alive with her stories and in-depth knowledge of archaeology, history, and the people who made it. We especially enjoyed the large, still unfinished panoramic mural of Carabelle from 1885-1920 that is filled in as old images and historical facts emerge.

Located in the old WPA built city hall and retaining the original heart of pine floors the museum aspires to open an exhibit of the shipwreck of the SS Tarpon, a dramatic story of heroism on the high seas. Should be a real tourist draw.

This small museum is a true asset to Carabelle and Florida. If the city is not a Florida Certified Local Government, it should be so non match state funds can be obtained as have numerous small historical facilities in Florida.

Small museum staffed by an enthusiastic volunteer who really wants to showcase her town. There is no admission and the small building has lots to look at. The city’s fishing industry is well represented.

Small museum with varied ages of artifacts and memorabilia. What makes it special is the lady telling you the stories and answering your questions about old and current times

Just a couple of rooms of stuff. But it's interesting for what it is. The woman there wanted to tell us so must we couldn't read the stories on the displays. Guess that's a good and bad thung.

The locals have taken a lot of time & paid great attention to their history. It's more than you would think for such a tiny area. A must see.

We stumbled on this free history museum while looking for the WWII museum, which we found later a few miles down the road. The Carrabelle history museum is full of archaeological finds and photos of Carrabelle people and events. What made it delightful was the volunteer who told us about the archaeology—prehistoric pottery and such—and the events that marked this little seaside town’s long history. One story was about the *Tarpon,* a ship that stopped there every Thursday until 1937, when a storm sunk it 9 miles offshore from Panama City. There were 13 survivors, but their life boats didn’t make it, and they didn’t really know where they were. But one of them set out to swim it and wound up swimming 25 miles, assisted by dolphins. Great story.

The curator of the museum was very knowledgeable and very engaging. She told us as many neat stories as we cared to listen to. Very interesting to learn how they harvest oysters. Well worth the visit.
