Been going to Kent St Weir cycle tracks for 3yrs use to really enjoy it, however lately its become dangerous for pedestrians & cyclists. Its not uncommon to see people on electric scooters, bikes & electric skate boards riding excessively fast close to pedestrians & young families. Last week I saw a hoon drinking a Stubby whilst doing 30klm hr on his electric skate board, he nearly cleaned up an elderly lady. Time to ban them from the walking tracks!

This area has recently just undergone improvements with 3 large gazebos added with BBQ facilities available. It's a great area to have a picnic with the family, go for a kayak, or grab a bite to eat and coffee at the cafe. The enclosed oval is currently being used for a dog park, but against the river there's a huge amount of grass to kick a ball and let the kids run around or take a walk along the many walking trails nearby. The playground itself is average but does the job for the younger kids. All over a great place to sit and relax amongst the trees and by the Riverside.

The Kent St Weir has been a hang-out for generations of Perth teenagers; we often went there when we were in high-school. Since then, the Kent St Weir has been upgraded. There are nice lawns, and a coffee shop. By the way, the Weir, which is a sort of dam, separates the estuarine and riverine sections of the Canning River, which is a tributary of the better-known Swan River.

Kent Street Weir is a sort of dam that prevents the esturine and riverine water of the Canning River mixing. It is certainly interesting, though not spectacluar. Generations of South of the River teenagers have gathered here. The purpose of the Weir is to prevent the fresh water of the upstream Canning River being tainted by the salty water downstream. The Weir is now part of the Canning Regional Park, it's worth a trip to this interesting area..

A beautiful, relaxing place to get out on the water. We kayaked for a couple of hours and only covered one of the many routes available. Highly recommended

Maybe I need to explore a little bit more, or I’m just not into the water sports that you could do here - there was a bit of construction and maintenance work going on when I visited so the walking path next to the river was not accessible.
I found the other side of the river (Canning Regional Park) much more pleasant with walking trails through the bush.

We enjoy a return trip to Kent Street Weir where there is plenty of parking, easy access to the reserve, and also to the café. The reserve has scattered gums and open grass areas, play equipment, and is a connection point for walking tracks along the Canning. One walking track goes across the weir. There are several lookout platforms too, and canoeing facilities. This is a good place for a family picnic.

Sixty years ago I used to swim in the Weir and, a few years later, I would take groups of school children for nature tours.
I was quite amazed at the transformation when I saw the extensive park lands, the children's play equipment, the boardwalks and the education centre (the latter would have been much appreciated when I had school visits).
Our visit was during the school holidays so, not unexpectedly, the facilities were in full use and their were children splashing in the shallow waters and canoeists enjoying the waters. The cafe situated there offers friendly service.
It is easy to look back and wish for years gone by, but the transformation here is a credit to all involved in the planning and establishment of a great facility.

Kent Street Weir has recently been remodelled. The park is a lovely setting for a family picnic. Lot of parking is available, toilets, and a children’s playground and a cafe overlooking the park. There are scenic walks that can be taken either side of the Canning River. In spring and summer, if you walk in the bush, beware that there are snakes and look out for them. We love the Weir and return time and time again. Kent Street Weir is always beautiful no matter the season and no more so than at sunset. Take the camera.

Perth has many lovely places to visit, and this weir is one of these. Good parking and easy access, and a lovely café close by. However, we come after just having breakfast! The easy path down to the weir winds through lawned areas with trees, and the river views from the broad weir are delightful. Well made walking and cycling tracks along the Canning follow through here, but there is a short walk across the weir to a secluded gazebo with seating just by the river. All very pleasant.
