Very interesting in terms of explanations about how wool is dyed and women's craftsmanship. Very worth the visit!

However, the price of the products is exorbitant. In the city it is 3 x less.

They claim that it is a cooperative, that they want to maintain the culture of their ancestors, but despite this, I believe that the amount charged is exaggerated.

My family and I bought a poncho for 180 soles and we saw it at the municipal market for 55 soles. They claim that it is 100% alpaca, but in the end you don't see the slightest difference between the two.

Anyway, it's only used to catch tourists who have just arrived in the city like us.

A brilliant place to buy alpaca goods. Prices are very reasonable for handmade items (think S/400 & S/150 for baby alpaca and alpaca sweaters, between S/250 and S/600 for table runners and blankets depending on the materials and size).
They also budget-friendly mixed items (not 100% alpaca). Discounts are generally easier if you pay with cash (and if you buy more items of course).

We went with a rented car, not as part of any group. But they were still nice enough to give us a quick presentation of the weaving method.

This was such an amazing experience to see the whole process of alpacca and sheep wool processing in the traditional incan way. Gabriela was quiet fluent in english and showed how wool is washed, how the threads are made, then how its colored using many native plants, rocks, insect etc. and then how the colored threads are then meticulously woven in to beautiful clothing and shawls. Must have experience if you are visiting cusco and heading to sacred valley. Its on the way and its a beautiful setting and they appear to be handling covid issues very well.

We were taken here as part of our last stop during our one day Sacred valley trip.
We were late in the day and the only ones there but we were still very warmly welcomed, served a hot tea and asked to sit down and attend a small presentation.

We were shown the ways of weaving, dyeing and cleaning the wool. Funny to see the natural ways of dyeing includes urine and corn which will give you some beautiful colors :) We were also shown the difference between fake and real baby alpaca though not easy to guess if you are not actually having to deal with it every day.

The lady who did the presentation was even making jokes and very friendly and also spoke very good English.

The place also has a shop with a lot of things to buy for anybody's wallet. From the mixed wool with baby alpaca to 100% baby alpaca things. We ended up buying a few baby alpaca items which I trust they are the real deal as opposed to the side street markets where you are not sure of where they are coming from. Apparently they have an issue with things imported from China ( no offence here) that replace the real deal and are also sold as the real deal to the unknowing tourists.

You can pay by card but as a hint you can negotiate better prices if you have cash :) However expect to pay something for the real baby alpaca as they do not come cheap and after seeing the presentation and the amount of work involved in making these items well it kind of justify the price.

They have also some alpacas and some guinea pigs in there in case you are with kids so they can play and look and also some very clean toilets.

Overall very happy we stopped here as it was one of the things we would remember from our Peruvian trip. Touristic but in a good way.

I have visited Tika now several times— first with a group of friends to do a bracelet workshop and then a few times after. The woman who work here are incredibly kind and hardworking and also have a free demonstration of their process. The products are also so beautiful and their is such a variety.
If you happen to be visiting Chinchero or passing through I would 100% recommend visiting.

T’ika is an amazing place with a welcoming community! I visited T’ika with a group of friends and participated in their bracelet workshop. From this experience, I learned so much about how weaving/textile making work. Would highly recommend to explore this place and to see the wonderful work they do.

P.S.: their products are amazing and are for sale!

I had the opportunity to intern at Tika from September to the end of November in 2019. I fell in love with Guadalupe, Mari, Maribel, Rosita, Clotilde, Manuela, and Lusmila - Tika’s owners and employees. These women are truly the most hardworking, genuine, selfless, and welcoming people I have ever known. Their work is beautiful and honestly made.

Guadalupe (Tika’s founder) shared with me, “my mother and grandmothers began teaching me to weave when I was five and I’ve been continuing to learn ever since. Weaving is such an important part of my culture as a woman from Chinchero and I think it’s important to share this tradition with others as the women and my family have done before”.

I whole-heartedly recommend visiting Tika and supporting this cooperative which is run by mostly single-mothers. Whether or not you choose to visit Tika, If you are traveling with a tour guide and visit any textile company, please consider asking your tour guide whether they ask the women at the cooperatives for a percentage of sales made during your visit. This is common for tour guides who bring groups and individuals to textiles companies, but it’s so unjust as they play no role in making the products and are already being paid by their agencies or tourists themselves.
