An excellent job by our tour guide Sebastian Hernandez and the site guide Poly. We were entertained and educated for over 2 hours in the site and felt like we had been there only 30 minutes. The time passed so quickly and hearing about the site from a man who had played in the area for years before it was discovered was fascinating.

Gracias Sebastian!

My family and I took a guided tour from Acapulco. Our guide Sebastian Hernandez was very informative - he knows the history of this place, but what was most important - he told the history the way our 7 year old son understood. Sebastian was showing us all little details of local culture, terrain and vegetation... to show us how locals now and back in times were connected to the land... from astrology thru history to the ants and lime trees - stories that Sebastian was telling us were fun and full of details. Thank you Sebastian for making our day at this archaeological ruins great and unforgettable! Also he was making sure we had plenty of shade (he provided umbrellas) and water. We just couldn’t ask for better guide.

We had a tour guide take us here from our cruise ship. Besides the fact that it would have been hard to access without transportation, it really needed the interpretive assistance of the guide. With the guide we learned quite a bit about the culture and history of the people who had lived there.

I always want to see the road less travelled when we visit a city or country and the Tehuacalco site was certainly that. We were the only visitors to the site at the time so had a very personal tour and able to take our time. This is a relatively new discovery and very interesting to hear the history and wander through the site. Make sure you take some water and other preparations for the heat. There is a lot of uphill hiking involved but definitely worth it if you are able.

Stopped for lunch in Tierra Colorada - freshly made tacos and cold beer. Wonderful after the hot trek at the ruins.

Our visit date was December 2015

The site guide was knowledgeable. We were lucky our driver-guide Sebastian Hernandez was with us to translate.

This is a smaller site than the ones we have visited in the past. The stadium is intact, which made it quite different. I liked the explanation of how the stones had such straight faces with the technology of that era.

Ce site est dans un lieu retiré où il n'y a que très peu de touristes. Ainsi, il es possible de prendre tout plein de photos avec seulement nous. Elles sont situées à environ 1h30 d'acapulco.

We spent a week in Acapulco and visited the Tehuacalco ruins. The ruins was my favorite part of the trip. Our English speaking tour guide Roberto Alarcon (found on tripadvisor) escorted us to the mountain side. Roberto was extremely knowledgeable about the ruins and made our walk-through like living the real thing. His descriptions of the ruins and their history were vivid and insightful. The history is extremely captivating and the ruins themselves, beautiful. The surrounding scenery and mountains are breathtaking. A must see visiting in nearby areas!

I booked a tour with Roberto Alarcon to see this historical site, and what an adventure it was!

We started by stopping off at a nearby village where there was a local market filled with many locals who reside in the nearby villages in the mountains.

I had a huge lunch that consisted of incredible beef tacos, tamales, sopes, and cheese quesadillas, all from different vendors!

To wash it all down was a cold tea drink made from hibiscus flowers!

After walking around a bit, back to the van to visit the archeological site.

Roberto knew the area very well and had taken a couple of detours to show how some of the locals live and to see some great picturesque scenes.

Once at the archeological site, we commenced with the tour learning about the Yopes and the culture.

Roberto tells the story behind each ruin but in between, he shares interesting fun facts regarding the rocks and trees - I won't mention what it is, you'll have to take the tour and find out for yourself!!

Definitely, spend the early part o you day to venture out to this area!

Tip: bring bottled water, wear comfortable shoes, and if it's a hot day, perhaps a small washcloth :)

My sister and I went to Acapulco in January, 2015. Our tour guide, Angel Flores (angelinacapulco@gmail.com, Mexican phone no. 044-744-138-0593) and his nephew, George Flores, took us to Tehuacalco which is about 1 1/2 hours from Acapulco on the toll freeway. At the second toll station from Acapulco we saw the only evidence of violence in the state of Guerro. There was a heavy police presence there as apparently at one point in time the demonstrating students had taken over that toll booth. Graffiti was everywhere. At the ruins we had a very informative personal guide who spoke only Spanish so George did the translation. it was a very well preserved archeological site and the interpretative centre was well presented. However, there were lots of steps hewn into the rocks and no guard rails so it's not an excursion for those with mobility issues. Afterwards we went to the local city of 25,000 people, Tierra Colorada, and experienced the real Mexico! Five of us had a full course dinner including soft drinks for $230 pesos (all together!) and I bought four genuine leather belts for $360 pesos all together.

I would highly recommend this tour but pack a lunch, it is not safe to eat in the city. Also, go early as the heat is unbearable in the middle of the day.
