HORROR! This Spice/Herbal Garden is an absolute tourist trap special! From the agreement between the tuktuk drivers to the insidious massage with indirect tip request to the visit to the shop with horrendous prices - sheer horror. Once at the hotel we tried the completely overpriced products and experienced one of our worst nights here in Sri Lanka. Our faces were literally burning and in some places the skin was etched away. The money for the products that caused physical harm was not refunded to us.

What's wrong with you? Money leeches and scammers. If I ever met this lying scammer again, he will be in trouble.

My tuktuk driver threw me out of the vehicle there, I should check it out now. It seems to be a scam by the operator with some of the drivers in the area. The tour was actually very informative and interesting and I actually learned a lot about different spices and their effects. Everything was in great English and all the products tested were really great and felt/smelled great. Afterwards there was a massage from a "student". It was really good, even if the lady was quite old for a student (at least 50 years old). Maybe a little more for the people being massaged would have been great. I was half undressed outside and had to almost force my clothes over my chest. Afterwards you were "allowed" to "voluntarily" tip the student, but you were looked at very demandingly and pressured to do so.
As I thought the hair removal cream was great when I saw the samples, I bought it (even for an absolutely overpriced price), but I also thought I was paying for the quality mentioned. I tolerated it really well on site, it smelled very pleasant. However, the cream I unpacked at home smelled completely different and caused severe allergic reactions in me (on the same parts of my body as in the Herbal Garden). Coincidentally, it smells just as chemical and unpleasant as the hair removal cream from the usual drugstore brands. I must have been ripped off.
The tour itself is great, but I would communicate directly that you don't want to buy anything and perhaps only do the tour on a tip basis, otherwise don't do it. You are really pressured into buying and obviously you don't even get the quality that is advertised.
Also tell the drivers there that you don't want this. Absolutely every driver in the days around Dambulla wanted to take me there. They probably get a small commission on sales.

This was a bad experience. Sells low-quality products that promise to cure all kinds of diseases and ailments. Not credible. I bought the product, and I strongly regret it.

It’s a tourist scam. Tuktuk drivers will bring you there. Ayurvedic plant medicine with absurd high prices. They’ll give you a tour showing all the Ayurvedic plants (which is actually pretty nice. Afterwards they’ll give you a donation based massage. And finally you’ll come to the shop where you can buy all the plant medicines for ridiculous prices. They’ll tell all lies trying to sell it. Karma will get them for this.

The tour the guide gives is very informative but also too fast. He tells a lot about all the plants and what to heal with it. He just puts hairsjaving Creme on you, without asking for allergies or if it’s okay. After you get some nice tea and 2 guys come for massages. The massage is very good! After the guys sit next to you and the guide asks you for a volunteer donation.. you kind of feel forced to it.. after you go to the shop and he shows you all the products, it’s almost not possible to watch at it alone. The prices are European.. very expensive.
Afterwards we kind of regret it to spend money there. It felt more like a touristtrap than a nice aurweda experience.. would not recommend it

• Exorbitant prices for products purchased in stores (more than $350 spent between 2 people to purchase a few products in fairly small containers)
• Prices not displayed, you discover the total cost when paying
In short, the visit part is really interesting but you feel the tourist trap side quite quickly which leaves a slightly bitter taste of this experience.

We had a nice and interesting tour. We waited for a German-speaking guide. He pretended to be a medical student who has been teaching himself German for 10 months. Later we read reviews from 2018 in which, in our opinion, the same person had already told his story there. The tour itself was extremely informative, good and free of charge (tips are of course welcome).
Afterwards you could get a free 5-minute massage from aspiring masseurs (in training - but strangely enough, at least 40-50 years old).
In the shop you could buy corresponding products, which were supposedly produced in-house. Our highly touted oil for migraines and headaches changed its consistency 2 days after purchase, so that it is now unusable. In general, you can buy all the products offered there in any other shop or supermarket at cheaper prices.
In summary: you can easily go on the tour, but you shouldn't buy anything!
