First, I didn't even know of a Fela museum neither did I realize TripAdvisor is seeking such an exorbant amount while the actual museum only charges $2 USD Per person for a guided tour in English.
Second, the museum is his home. The items are kept in tack from his clothing to music equipment to his writings and manifesto.
Third, I learned so much including the activities surrounding his mother's death, her activism, his first wife and beaucoup about his children.
Lastly, they could really beef up the gift shop. I know I'll return to pick up gifts for friends before leaving but there is a rooftop restaurant and free parking.
No plastic slippers allowed in the rooftop restaurant so dress up or wear tennis shoes. No Rubber Flip flops.

Gets you closer to Fela the legend, and gives you more background knowledge - his personality, upbringing, family life etc. Nice place to visit on a weekend with friends and has a bar at the topmost floor. Affordable too.
They can do better with welcoming guest, creating more experience from what they have, and creating more Fela aura around the place.

BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE. I couldn't even start the tour of the museum. Everyone from the security man to the tour guide were rude as hell. When we arrived, we asked if we could go park the car inside. The security wasted our time just to tell us that there were guests from France inside. This had nothing to do with it if we could go in or not. After going we tried to get some more information about the entrance into the museum, the security continued talking about the 'french ambassador'. We were told to go upstairs and inquire at the bar about the tour. On getting to the bar, the tour guide continued the rudeness. He told us to follow him back downstairs where the tour was supposed to be. He was extremely rude. Giving us excuses about his poor service. Telling us that he has been working all day and that we should not give him headache when we complained about how poor the service was. That whatever the security did has nothing to do with him. That we should go if we didn't want. He said we should 'waka dey go'
PS. There was no french ambassador

I've visited a few times, and it's become one of my favourite places to just pass the time and take in Lagos' history.
However, management seems inconsistent. Every time I visit there seems to be a new rule. "We no longer open on Sundays" "You can take pictures" "No pictures please"
"You're free to look around" "You need a tour guide"
I'm never sure what to expect when I visit, which is annoying. It's great if you're a fan of Fela and want a glimpse into his life, but don't expect anything remarkable. Pictures from his life from early on, artwork inspired by him from other artists and of course his preserved living quarters. You'll be done in under an hour.
I should also mention that the items at the bar are severely overpriced. If you want to take in the ambience, no problem. Otherwise, you're better off just heading to one of the bars around, or the shrine if you're up for more adventure.
I hear there's a hotel now, perhaps I will stay there sometime.

A three-storey building that houses the belongings of Fela Kuti right before he died. His room has been preserved the exact way he left it for the past 23 years. A tour guide takes you floor by floor and tells stories of the afrobeat legend Fela with pictures, newsletters from his political party and other sacred artefacts. The third kalakuta is also where Fela Kuti was buried and his tomb is right by the gate. An enlightening experience for followers/lovers of history and afro beats. There's a rooftop chillout spot where you can relax and get some drinks, food or other herbs after the tour.

Visited with one of Baba Abami Edas prodigy Dede Mabiaku and he showed me round the museum and I loved it. It's a great lifetime experience. But I told him it has to be promoted more like Elvis Presley museum. God bless Africa shrine and Dede Mabiaku.

I visited the museum as part of a paint and sip experience, organized by the dare experience, a local travel company. The museum is in good condition and our tour was led by a guide who had lived with Fela in his youth. It was really good to be guided through by someone who had a close connection to the late great Fela. We were given a good history lesson but from a more personal perspective, we saw the room he lived in at some point including his famous shoe collection and his clothes preserved in the same state. And we saw more photos from his family's collections. It felt like stepping back in time, and really gave a sense of how he lived. Definitely recommend a visit.

Noticing that listening to the music of Fela is not enough to understand his message, visiting his resting place would give you a clearer picture of what his life and time was about as the museum is a well curated place and the hospitality and ethics of staff is amazing. You'd get to see clothes worn while alive and his mausoleum being a revered site.
