We have truly enjoyed our ski experience at Grand Targhee. This was a family trip with 7 adults and 7 children aged 12 to 11 months. The slopes are family friendly. I would suggest making all arrangements for daycare and ski school in advance of your trip as this turned out to be a problem. One really great delight was The Powder Cache Bar & Grill, a wonderful restaurant located conveniently at the base of the slopes. Every member of our party was thrilled with their meals. The wait staff was great with the children and even the kids’ menu was outstanding. I need to really praise the magnificent chef on his “Smoked Turkey Pot Pie!” It was the best pot pie I have ever tasted. The filling was rich, smooth and packed with yummy meat and vegetables. The crust was a crispy, melt in your mouth biscuit. If you don’t give this a try you have truly missed out!!!

We had been told by avid skiers that if we were in the area, this place was NOT to be missed. We are so glad we took their advice and made a 3 night stop at this resort. We had just skied 5 days at Big Sky and we were on our way to Jackson Hole. Grand Targhee is not on Ikon, but the $115 lift ticket is worth every penny. There are only 3 lifts, but those 3 lifts offer so much open beautiful terrain. We did not have the powder that they are famous for but it really didn’t matter to us. There were no lift lines at all. The main lodge is small and the bathrooms and locker situation could use some updating. We took a private lesson with Tuffy ( I skied the morning and my husband skied the afternoon) which was the highlight of my trip. I learned so much in my 1/2 day and it has served me well here in Jackson Hole. Thank you Tuffy!!!!! Since everything is so close we put our boots on in the car and walked to the lifts. Parking is also free which is great. We can’t wait to return !

Great resort for beginners, intermediates and advanced intermediates, or for everyone when snow is old and groomers are the main menu. Base village is small and quaint, with great dining and lodging options.
We travelled to GT from Bozeman, were our home hills of Big Sky and Bridger Bowl had poor bases and old snow. At least at GT there was a 72" base. Even with the 72" base, the resort had not had fresh snow for a couple of weeks and with warm weather everything was very firm until early afternoon.
All and all GT is a great resort.

We came here for a wedding over the summer and stayed in one of the Sioux Loft Suites. The resort was quite a bit more "rustic" than we were expecting. The rooms, while large, were very basic and there was no air conditioning. The lack of air conditioning was mostly ok at night with open doors and fans, however it made getting ready for the wedding interesting. We also expected much more of a resort feel in terms of onsite amenities/activities, but there was not a whole lot on the property (1 cafe type restaurant, 1 sit down restaurant and a small gift shop). The pool was not open when we were there which was disappointing.
As expected in rural Wyoming, cell service was minimal to nonexistent around the property. There is a long drive from the small town to the resort where you drive through an open cattle range - beware of cows crossing the road at night!!
The management was very friendly though and were able to give us good advice for hiking around the area. We booked horseback riding through the resort with a phenomenal guide and took the ski lift to the top of the mountain for wonderful views. There were many people who were biking and that seemed to be the main summer attraction.
While a bit far from each, we used this resort as a base camp to go to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons which were both easy day trip drives.
Overall, we would probably not stay here again during the summer. I would recommend staying in Jackson where there are a plethora of restaurants and activities close by that do not require a long drive.

I really didn’t want to write this review, but I felt there was a need. First, the staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful people we encountered on our very long road trip. The location is beautiful. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in the winter. However, this resort is not for seniors with disabilities. Everywhere is either a slope or stairs. On our first night, an elderly couple, a little older than ourselves, arrived after 9 PM. The husband was using both a cane and walker. There was no staff to help them into their room. That left me. Upon seeing their room and the difficulty in getting to it, the wife burst into tears. Their room, like ours, was one step above a DUMP. The only redeeming feature was the bed. The rooms are badly in need of upgrades. They are for young skiers and mountain bikers with their wet and muddy boots and dirt encrusted biking togs, not for people over 75 simply looking for a nice room to relax in. It would have been helpful had they described the rooms as less than rustic.

This used to be one of our favorite places to ski but as prices went up it got less affordable to go as a family. We decided to go check it out again after the holiday crowds have cleared out some. They’ve changed the parking now where part of the lot is paid. We got there early but were still in a lower lot. We did not see a a ride to the hill. The crowds weren’t to bad since it was after the holiday rush. The “No Easy Way Down” signs were up at the start of the day and there was no visibility at the top due to a current storm. We’ve skied here enough to know the trails but with the wind and icy snow it was a struggle. There was also a lot of ungroomed powder which can be a good thing but it was very heavy and hard to ski. They closed Dreamcatcher part way through the day so we had to ski the easier chair Shoshone and wait in lines. We’ve found over the years the employees are less and less friendly and it doesn’t have the welcoming feel it once had. If the conditions are right it can be a great day of skiing but with fewer discounts and higher prices we don’t go as often as we used to.

The view was mind blowing, especially the tetons off the back ridge. It was very small town feeling which kind of felt like a double edge sword. Most people were nice but it also felt like some people were looking at me like small town guys, lol. Felt the same way in Jackson Hole. Maybe a Wyoming thing. I'd definitely take GT over JH anyday. I've skied 10 different resorts over the past 3 years and Taos is still king for the nicest and warmest people. But that's my home mountain. But if I get the chance I'll visit again.

We love Grand Targhee! We've gone for four consecutive years now, and we love it more every year. Targhee provides a perfect challenge for everyone in our family. The kids terrain park is a blast, as are the more advanced trails and hiking Mary's. Our kids are 10 and under, and they've progressed a ton in their skiing and snowboarding by going to Targhee. We also enjoy the hot tub, pool, gym, snowshoe trails and playing in the snow on off-days. We stay in the Sioux Lodge for its convenience, although it's very basic in terms of amenities. We go for the skiing and spectacular scenery!

First Time at the Ghee and certainly not my last. After a week in Jackson Hole I decided to try Grand Targhee, as I had read and heard some good things.
After an interesting drive across the pass( very snowy day, I arrived at a little bit of paradise.
Low key is an understatement BUT amazing snow, good facilities and most of all NO people.
I stayed on mountain at teh lodge, which as a solo traveller was great. Clean, ski in ski out , with a great communal area to hang out between runs.
teh food outlets all exceeded expectations with great service and really good food.
Lift passes very reasonable compared to JH and Utah and while only 6 lifts across teh whole mountain, I view this as a positive as gives great freedom
Now to main event. skiing was amazing. i call it a freestyle mountain. while there are lots of well groomed runs, you can ski pretty much the whole mountain and with teh great snow coverage when i went, it meant you were skiing on your own and hardly any moguls as no one skiing same place
The reputation that mountain can get fogged in is fair as some bare parts of mountain so no trees to help clarity. I went at a particularly snowy period so visibility was low at times, but weather seemed to roll past , so after 15 mins or so blouse sky would appear again
certainly not as challenging as Jackson Hole, but I take the freedom anyway, plus there are plenty of great and challenging runs for all but the most expert skier and there is always cat skiing to wet your appetite
now please dont tell anyone how good mountain is !

Thank you for your review of our property. We are one of the last best places in the Rockies. Our resort is known for some of the best snow in the lower 48. You are a perfect example of why. Once people come to the Ghee they always come back!! Thank you for your review.

I booked the GTR shuttle/lift ticket bundle and was picked up in Teton Village (Jackson Hole) and the van took us to Grand Targhee Ski resort. The ride was beautiful and we saw the sun rising behind the Grand Tetons! The slopes were not busy even on the holiday weekend. The snow was freshly groomed on some side of the run and left powdery on the other side so you can enjoy the best of both worlds!!! The views from the slopes were breathtaking and the runs were a ton of fun (we stuck to mostly blue runs). My favorite run was Shadow Woman, but they were great!
I highly recommend making the trip to ski Grand Targhee!!

Can one hike to the summit easily? (Fred's Mountain.) I mean, the Bannock trail will get there in about 3.2 miles, but I'm wondering if it's not hard to bushwack more directly up the ski slopes/bike paths. For the eclipse you know!

Fred's is a pretty easy hike. Another cool hike is to the Wind Cave. Both are not super challenging.

Considering coming out in January.Looks like great mountain.2 questions-I am a weightlifting addict do you have really nice exercise facility,not just a little room in a corner,and my wife is not a huge skier-she will go out for few hrs but tends to look for cute shops,bookstores etc like we have had in Breckenridge and Whitefish,Montana-will she find anything in the village or should I wait and come to your resort when I am just with the guys?thanks

Guy trip. She'll blow through the shopping scene in 30 minutes. Not sure about a weight room.
Jackson Hole across the pass has tones of shopping, spas ext. Can be tough getting across if the weather is bad. Snakeriver spa at Jackson Hole is great. I hear the Rusty Parrot in town is good too. JH = $$$. Targhee = Powder.

Greetings,
Just booked your hotel for one week ski vacation (feb 18-25).
First time in Jackson.
Couple of questions :
- do you recommend for us to rent a car, or just use shuttle to/from airport and then shuttle? to/from jackson hole ski resort ?
- how frequent do you run / operate the shuttle(s) ?
- Typically do you get a lot of snow in the town of Jackson (e.g. are all streets and sidewalks snow covered during last two weeks in february) ? -> just planning if ok with low cut boots or need real snow boots to walk around the town at that time.

Hope this email finds you well! We are looking forward to seein you in the Tetons, but just to be clear, Grand Targhee Resort is located in Alta, Wyoming, and not Jackson. The resort is approximately 50 minutes from the town of Jackson and accessible through scenic Teton Valley, Idaho.
You can book an airport shuttle from Jackson to Grand Targhee.
Many visitors who stay at Grand Targhee do fly into Jackson or spend a day or two exploring the town and skiing Jackson Hole Resort, so both are a possibility.
A rental car could be your best option; you will then be able to drive around the valley and over to Jackson for the day. Please note that our resort is a mountain destination. We are a quiet resort with slopeside lodging. The town of Driggs is 13 miles from the resort. We do offer a free shuttle that runs throughout the day into Driggs and Victor, ID.
If it starts snowing, it could potentially be deep. Boots are definitely recommended.
