The road leading to It is under construction. I think they are going to put a bay walk of some sort. I hope it would be tastefully made and easier access.

The area is what is left of the old Spanish built Fort San Pedro. Built to guard against and resist Dutch and Muslim pirates plaguing those times. It was inherited and developed by the Americans till the Japanese occupation in the 40's. Sadly it was completely destroyed during the return of the Americans during World War II.
By the air one can still see the outline of the fort today. Presently it's a lively after hour watering hole. I used to remember the adjacent Rotary park near here. A viewdeck to Guimaras Island.
An on going project to extend the fort on its seaward side, hopefully it doesn't erase the original area of the fort for historical purposes. Besides the food people come here to go rod fishing and swim. Looking fwd to the day a historical marker be placed on this site if not re build the fort again.
One can take a public jeep or taxi from the city center to this place. You may also find government offices nearby here. #RP

My Driver/Guide and I briefly stopped here during our Day Trip
There was no one in sight around 2:30 p m. Learned that locals used to visit and dine here in the past. Now, the place to be and go for locals and tourists is the Smallville Complex.

I have been here almost once every week for some years now. Its a good place to sit with a cpl of beers when its hot in the city. Very fresh air. Dont buy any food here, bcoz I have seen big rats around the place many times. And it seems abit dirty everywhere. Toilets is crap. Very sad they dont fix this place, its an exellent lot. But they say they are not allowed to do anything.

We visited this attraction during our city tour. This Fort was built in the 1600s
I found it a complete waste of time and is in a very poor state. Vandalism and lack of maintenence have contributed to the current condition.

Fort San Pedro or Fort Nuestra Senora del Rosario is located along San Pedro Drive in the domestic port area. The original quadrilateral fort was built between 1603 and 1616, composed of cut-outs of Guimaras rocks and coral stones from along the Panay Coast.
Fort Sand Pedro was built to protect the city from invaders that threatened Iloilo such as Dutch and Moro pirates. The disrepair of the fort started in the early 20th century and was totally destroyed during World War II.
Without the fort, the area was converted to a park with food available. The sunsets to Guimaras island are much loved. Unfortunately, the area comes across as quite derelict and blighted. I really questioned if I had arrived at the correct location - there were no historic plaques noting the past history. This would make a great project for historic renovation and preservation, but it seems there is little local governmental interest. Bottomline, it was sketchy and I was happy to leave.

Fort San Pedro used to be one of the favorite hang-outs of the people of Iloilo City, with its beautiful view of the sunset and delectable eateries. But now the younger generation opts to go to more modern and better equipped entertainment hubs (like Smallville near SM City Iloilo). This is such a pity because Fort San Pedro still offers people a breathtaking view of the sunset, it still has a drive-in bar and restaurant, its breeze still refreshers strollers along its banks, etc. The fort also has a very rich history behind.
Today the place looks dreary and run-down. It offers limited night entertainment and is badly lit. The local government doesn't seem to take interest in reviving its once glorious past. Perhaps the only occasion when people flock to this place is during the annual fluvial procession of the Sto. Nino every month of January. As for the rest of the year, the place is scarcely frequented by both local and foreign tourists. I myself would not recommend the place for entertainment and relaxation. There are better places in the city to go to, in this regard.

Fort San Pedro used to be the favorite spots for most families looking for a great view of sunset back draft against Guimaras island. It used to be a great playground for children after hearing a mass near the San Jose Church. I remembered as a kid, we have spent our Christmas eve here. Sadly, the area is just a memory of it's past.Hope the local government would do to bring it back to it's glorious days.
