This was a day trip from Kota Kinabalu and the car journey took about 25 minutes to reach the jetty. The speedboat takes about another 15 minutes to reach the island.
On the day of our visit there were only 5 visitors and a guy who was already there and staying at one of the lodges, so we had the island practically to ourselves. This place is amazing, close to KK in distance but so far away in beauty and tranquility.
Lots to do from swimming, walking on the deserted beaches, snorkelling, paddle boarding or just relaxing on the loungers. Everything is provided. The team take you away from the island after about an hour to snorkel and look at the coral reef.
We had a delicious lunch and then cakes before we left. There is a small beach bar, showers and changing rooms for you to use after being in the sea.
The team are brilliant, funny and really look after you!
In summary this trip is really good value, great fun and a lovely way to escape the bustle of KK

My family and I went for a one-night stay on Dinawan Island. I have been before and enjoyed the peace and tranquility, but this was my best experience yet! The 9 AM boat from the river jetty afforded us views of the mangrove and a solitary crocodile dozing close to the river bank. After a couple of minutes the estuary widened and we joined the open sea. Less than 10 minutes later we were stepping onto the jetty at the island.
The staff greeted us with smiles and a refreshing lemongrass drink. We were then given a short introductory talk about the facilities and activity options, which included jet-skiing, paddle boarding and kayaking. My son and I immediately signed up for reef snorkeling, and after a two-minute boat ride we were swimming above the coral and observing a wonderful array of fish (including Nemo from the movie) as well as exotic, swaying anemones and nudibranchs.
Nothing beats a good meal after a swim, and lunch, served by the enthusiastic and talented chef, Nelson didn't disappoint! It was more of a mini-banquet, with a good variety of dishes, including, of course local seafood.
After our hearty lunch we were shown to our glamping tent, which was clean and perfect for the four of us. As well as comfortable bedding, it had a toilet, a shower with hot water, mini fridge and standing air-conditioning units, We loved the fact that you could sit on your king-size bed and gaze out through the tent flaps to the shoreline and clear aquamarine sea beyond. Nothing beats dropping off to sleep to the sound of a gentle sea breeze and waves lapping the shore!
Our siesta was followed by yet more eating! Nelson served up a tasty afternoon tea and even though it was drizzling by this time, nothing could spoil our bouyant mood. We spent the rest of the afternoon reading and beachcombing, and enjoying the peace and tranquility that the island has to offer.
If lunch was a mini-banquet, dinner was the full blown version! Again, the range of the dishes was impressive. We topped off our day by strolling along the beach to the sand spit that joins the main island to its smaller sister island. From there, we were able to witness a spectacular sunset.
The next day we got up early to see the sunrise over the mainland. Mount Kinabalu was clearly visible as an impressive backdrop. We spotted a hornbill in the trees and tracked it as it foraged from tree to tree . Before breakfast we decided to do some more snorkeling, and were amazed to find that the coral reef could be accessed just a few feet offshore! We saw an even greater variety of fish than the day before, so Dinawan Island is perfect for those who are less confident in deep water, but still want to sample the treasures that a coral reef has to offer. (Remember to go snorkeling earlier in the day: we noticed that by around midday, the visibility was less and there were fewer fish on the reef).
After breakfast, we tried out the kayaking and paddle boarding. Although there are a line of buoys marking the limits for sea recreation, there was still plenty of room for us to practice our ''moves'' - including falling off the paddle boat repeatedly! A sunbathing session was followed by another satisfying lunch, and then it was time to say our goodbyes, and reluctantly head back to the mainland.
So all in all, it was a perfect weekend getaway. if you are looking for a sophisticated, luxury resort with extensive entertainment facilities, then this may not be for you; but if you want to a simple, delightful island experience, Dinawan Island is the perfect antidote to the chaos and stress of modern city life.
Lastly, a big ''Thank You'' to the manager, Mr. Ong Teck Kin, Max and Shah, our informative guides, and to all the staff who helped to make our stay so memorable. See you next time, guys!

It was really nice. Very relaxing, peaceful, and silent.
I was the only guest to stay there, so I could forget busy days.

It is nice to relieve tension. You can enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding near the shore; for snorkeling, it is available either by boat or shore; a beautiful sunset and the bonfire are available at night.

I was there for a short day trip. Snorkeling was thwarted due to bad weather thus we are not able to see the gorgeous corals. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the beach, canoeing and just strolling around the island. The proprietor of the island owned a few dogs and among them is Ali who is a super friendly and sweet Doberman. Tourists can enjoy and spent some time with him and take pictures. Overall a clean and clear water island and good for relaxation.

I went with a group of friends and the tour company that we went with just has a simple set up and we snorkeled and swam and enjoyed a lunch prepared for us. We were the only group in that section of the island that day so we were pleased to have the whole island to ourselves.
