Budget bird park

Penang Bird Park is in Butterworth. It is suppose to be one of the biggest bird park attractions in Malaysia with a variety of bird species and plants. But i consider it a budget bird park.

Morning at the Bird Park

We really enjoyed the Bird Park, seeing all the different types of birds and the bird show was fun even though some of the birds didn't want to perform, awesome few hours

Fun birdwatching experience

Small but fun place to visit. Wouldn’t say it’s perfectly maintained but can see they tried their best on a small budget. Surprisingly lots of parrots, owls, hornbills and peacocks, more than I anticipated. I would recommend spending 2-3 hours here, including watch a half an hour bird show around 11.30 a.m, kids will love it! Photo session with the birds after show is free of charge too!

Another highlight are the three free flight aviaries, where you have small birds flying and walking around you. With RM1 you can buy some seeds and the birds will stop on your hand to eat them. Flamingoes and pelicans are great to watch too! Also look for special animals like snakes, crocodiles, ostrich and emu..

The place can be easily navigated even without a map, just make sure you bring mosquito repellent to avoid being attacked by mosquitoes!

The park is not well maintained

The park is not well maintained. Flamingos are cleaning themselves in murky water. Very disappointed.

Better than expected

I'm a little puzzled about the negative reviews. Sure it's not as good as the Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur but we enjoyed it for what it is. There's a big variety of birds and you can get close to some of them. Having said that, it can get messy if it rains and your children may need mosquito repellent. Also they can learn from Jurong Bird Park how to landscape.

Disappointed

Last visited was 13years ago,
But totally disappointed, dirty, seem like never maintenance, birds with small cage,
But the staffs are nice and friendly.
Owners should renovation and maintenance otherwise no one will visit.

Good to visit

Certainly have many birds but we felt they were in enclosures which were too small. The cages were well labelled with information. The shop and cafe were ok. The bird show was disappointing.

Suitable for family with toddlers

Many ranges of birds available. Some cages we can walk in to the birds. There are some birds available for touch. We personally love the owls, very cute! And the bird show was great!

Good selection of birds but loking tired

We were keen to head over to the mainland for the day and thought we would pop into penang bird park. It boasts the largest range of birds in Malaysia and I can believe it. The highlight was holding the owls however, as per other places in asia, this is just a ploy to get you to buy a photograph on exit.
Overall the place was feling pretty tired and run down. We were there mid week and only saw 2 other families the whole time. They said that the weekends get busy. If your in the area and are interested in birds then check it out but I wouldnt make a special trip.

Nice place to visit

This bird park well worth the visit. There are many birds and the place is very clean. There is a show during my visit too, very good performance from the birds.
