It is located just up the stairs from the parking lot in front of Nihondaira Ropeway Station.
Admission is free.
It has three floors.
On the first floor, there is a touch Insighters video that explains the topography of Mt. Fuji and Yamato Takeru's expedition to the east.
The third floor is the observation floor.
From the second floor, you can go outside and find a wooden aerial promenade (observation corridor).
It was hot, but the weather was good, and Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay were beautiful.

This is part of the itinerary as we tripped back to Tokyo from Hamamatsu-Shizuoka.
Nihondaira is a popular scenic spot in Shizuoka with a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji. The coach is parked at lower level with few F&B & shops. We then ascend up the slight slope for about 10 mins, time was about 3pm.
The Nihondaira Yume Terrace was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, an outstanding building from a distance. We understand the beautiful wooden facility is made of wood sourced from Shizuoka Prefecture and definitely blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
We took lift up to the 3F that features a 360-degree, all-glass observation floor. Be captivated by breathtaking view of Shimizu Port and Suruga Bay, with the majestic Mt. Fuji in the distance. There is also the beautiful view of Mt. Fuji displayed on the large monitor, juz in case the weather shrouds the Mt Fuji .
The octagonal shape of Yumedono – the Hall of Visions - particular geometry gave tourist the flexibility to have various prominent view of Mt. Fuji at various positions, while walking around. We took many photos indeed! We were just so lucky blessed with good weather.
On the 2nd floor, there is a lounge where visitors can enjoy seasonal teas and sweets, unfortunately we did not have enough time for this.. Our Tour Mgr told us that Visitors may enter the observation corridor at any time, regardless of the facility’s hours of operation or even on days when it is closed. If you visit at night, you can enjoy the night view of Nihon Daira, which is registered as one of Japan’s Nightscape Heritage Sites.
After an hour we left and continue our journey back to Tokyo (Shinagawa) …
There are many places in Japan with great views of Mt. Fuji and the last time for us was Dec 23 at Endoshima (a long distance away). But Nihondaira definitely is a closer location for visitors to soak in the beauty of the mountain!

We visited after visiting Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. This Yume Terrace was designed by the world-famous architect Kengo Kuma, and is made of wood. It is free to enter, and if you are blessed with good weather, you can see the Pacific Ocean, Suruga Bay, and Mt. Fuji. It is a top-class observation deck. We had high hopes because we saw a beautiful Mt. Fuji while driving on the highway, but after eating lunch and visiting Toshogu Shrine, when we went up to the observation deck, the clouds had spread and we could hardly see anything. I regret that we should have gone up before going to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. I will try again soon.

A viewing spot in Nihon-daira. It is a three-story building designed by architect Kengo Sumi, and is connected to the outdoor corridor nearby. Admission is free, so it's definitely worth a visit.

Even at home, the temperature is very high and hot. After going to Shimizu, I climbed up to Nihon-daira. Since it was Sunday, two large tourist buses came. Both were from within the prefecture. They were not foreigners. The shops were moderately crowded. The terrace was air-conditioned and cool. It was a good place to take a stroll. You can't see Mt. Fuji from the terrace at this time of year.

The wooden observation deck is located in a great spot right in front of Mt. Fuji.
The terrace is also spacious, so if you wait a little, you can get a good position to take photos of Mt. Fuji.
The best thing about it is that it's made of wood, so it's easier to remove than concrete observation decks.
Whenever I see a lot of concrete structures left abandoned in buildings and facilities that are no longer used in tourist spots, I wonder what the purpose of these tourist facilities is.
If it's made of wood, that won't happen, so I think it's great.

Nihon-daira faces Mt. Fuji to the east over the tea fields, with Shimizu Port below. It's quite a spectacular view.
At the top of the mountain is the "Yume Terrace." It was designed by Kengo Kuma, who also designed the National Stadium. As expected, the use of wood is interesting. The surrounding area is a photo spot with Mt. Fuji in the background.
Go down one level and from here the ropeway to Mt. Kuno starts and ends.
During good seasons such as Golden Week, the wait time for the ropeway is over an hour. You can kill time by looking at souvenirs, but you will soon get bored. Oh, and there is also a Shizuoka mandarin orange faucet (for a fee). (Like the one in Ehime)
People who come to Nihon-daira by car park their cars in the mountaintop parking lot, which is quite crowded, but it may be more spacious and convenient to park in front of the ropeway station. Of course, parking is free.
