One of the best natural and virgin landscape that you can find in India. Trekking is moderately difficult but the valley view is worth the pain.

How is Dzükou valley in Manipur? I doubt the authenticity of this travel company. This is provocative

Great outing, wonderful landscape. Nothing to add to other raving 5 star reviews already written.

However, I would advise to go up the Jakharma way which is what we did: it is shadowy, steep but much shorter and in a good state with stones arranged as a stairsteps, We made it in about three hours, but we are good hikers. Other people who started at about the same time came 50 minutes later as we did. The reasoning is that the steep descent would have been very hard on your knees/legs and we really do not regret having done it that way.

Going down the Wismewa way: there is a very short relatively steep descent, the rest is really easy going and quite long.

We took a shared taxi to Jakharma (saturday) and stopped a Kohima-bound bus shortly after Wismewa for the way back (although it was a sunday and we had read that there would be no public transport on that day).

Visited the Dzukou Valley with my wife. With myself at the age of 56 years and my wife at 51 years, the decision to undertake this trek was nothing other our love for nature. I must say that trek was not easy as given in most of the reviews. While our on onward trek was from Viswema, our return was the Jakhama route. With frequent breaks in between, the former had a moderately steep climb for 2 hours followed by plain walking along the valley for close to 3 hrs. The latter was really an extremely steep trek downhill through thick jungle and it took us close to 6 hrs to reach the base. After all the tough trek, the only words which can describe the beauty of the valley is UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL. Out stay was in one of the four cottage rooms. Caution: Please have very very low expectations on the cleanliness of these rooms. The weather was very cold in the valley and was very windy in the night. There is no electricity up there. It’s totally dark. Carry bare minimum baggage with you.

The valley is absolutely scenic and worth the stress of the off road drive to the hiking trail and the steep climb up. Breathtaking views in all different directions. You can make it in a long day return hike, or elect to stay under the stars at the base camp with basic amenities.

Dzukou Valley is one of the unique place for trekker. People should visit once in their life time. Breathtaking views are there. If you take 2-3 days just to explore the place is amazing . I came here from Dimapur to Kohima to Visema and from Visema two of us walked almost 4 hours and we spent the night over the roof of the cliff in our tent. We had visited in the month of December . It was challenging . If you take guide it is good , but without guide also you can explore. It is better to carry essential tools like water /bottle/knife/sleeping bag/ tent/ food also . You can get food in the base camp also which will be expensive. Better to start early morning from the Visema or Jakhama point. Tent also you can higher from base camp. You need Courage / good health . Don't throw any plastics over there . Purely natural, Refreshing , beautiful .

It's a short and awesome trek unlike any other. There's also the flower called the "dzukou lily" which blooms only around June - July. The rains along with the strong winds makes it really cold if you're wet so try your best to avoid getting wet ( I'd suggest a poncho it kept me dry for the most part).
Even if it seems bad do visit the valley it's truly a sight to behold :)

An ABSOLUTE MUST this season due to HEAVY NON-STOP RAIN

- Rain covers for backpacks
- Proper waterproof jacket
- Honestly shorts would actually work quite fine because
they'll be easy to dry
- Trekking boots ( waterproof ofcourse)really helped alot
- Waterproof casing for cameras if you bring any

The lodging at Dzukou rest house isn't the most comfy but it's fine.

Get slip-ons to use at the resthouse

There are rats so be wary of any food items u may keep at the rest house.

Toilets are good enough.

Also you can't light your own fires(there have been incidents where the entire valley caught fire before, probably happened 2-3 times) so you can go to the kitchen to warm up( there's a fire there) if needed.

Now from my personal experience our guides Udit and Co. were a big help. They prepped all the food for us and brought it for the older people who didn't want to move after the trek. I'd like to express my gratitude to them :).

Also one person in the trek fell sick because he got really wet and really cold.. so bring proper waterproof clothes but you can bring shorts it's easy to wash off because clothes will not dry there.(there's usually no sun at all)

A piece of advise
Keep moving you won't feel the cold as much 😉 Do keep hydrated too( in cold conditions you may not realise that you need water).

Now when we were returning from the trek there were floods in assam so our trains got cancelled. Me, my family and my friend were sure we won't make it home in time. It was a Sunday and no cars were willing to drive to Guwahati either( Nagaland is a Christian dominated area so most people don't work on Sundays). But our travel organiser managed to get us an innova crysta from Guwahati, Which took us all the way home on the same day! It was a nice and comfy ride home.

We got home on the SAME DAY even with all the odds against us!
Hats off to you Plan The Unplanned!!( our travel organisers) 6/5 for that one!

It’s not like a true Himalayan hike. It’s a small one . It’s still challenging and stunningly beautiful.
We started from viswama village. We avoided the walk on road and went ahead to the forest hike. The first hour (around 2km ) is straight up and can be challenging if you are out of shape. Worst case you will need to stop more but it’s a short distance . After that it’s a ridge walk and extremely beautiful. The route is around 4km and easy walk to base camp.
The base camp has two log huts to sleep but our decision for tent was better. Looks like lot of rats will accompany you in the hut.
Walk into the valley from base camp. We went till the cross seen far in the valley.

While returning we took the Jakhama route. It’s stairs and continuous down. You have to be cautious. Distance is 4-5km only. Be prepare for stiff calves and thighs next day.

Overall the route is scenic and a great experience indeed
