Sri Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha Kalyani Kshetra is a small temple located in front of the Gangamma temple and diagonally opposite to the Kadu Malleshwara temple on 2nd Temple Street, Malleswaram layout in the north-western area of Bangalore city.
Amazing thing is that the theertha from the Nandi god's mouth is a wonder because it has been coming from more than a hundred years

The dynasty of Gangas, Cholas and Hoysala ruled Bangalore prior to Kempegowda and Mysore Maharajas. The art of temple construction was initiated, developed, implemented and nursed by those kings, which we can see in the living monuments. The complex of temples at 15th Cross, Malleswara is an example. They are Lord Kadu Malleswara temple, Lord Lakshminarasimha temple, Mother Goddess Gangadevi temple and Lord Dakshinamuki Nandiswara and other temples situated nearby. Just on the other side of the road to Goddess Gangadevi temple we find Lord Dakshinamuki Nandiswara temples. There is a small size Nandi (Bull), from whose mouth there has been continuous and non-stop flow of water into the stepped tank. It is called Nandiswara Theertha (Basava Theertha). This is the spot from where River Vrishabhavathi begins to flows to join Arkavathi River which ultimately merges in River Cauvery at Sangama- Mekedatu near Kanakapura, my native town. This is going on since several thousands of years. The Holy Scriptures and mythological stories refer to this river Vrishabhavathi as one of the sacred rivers in India.
While entering Nandi temple main gate just lift your head to see a gigantic figure of divine bull Nandi, with beautifully decorated painting, wearing techno-colour clothing and so on. I first saluted Him before entering the premises.
My first visit was Kadu Malleswara temple where I stood before Lore Dakshinamurthy silently praying for long time without minding how long my standing was. He is the most favoured Lord as well as Guru for the students and scholars. The diety Lord Dakshinamurthy is seen facing south in the temple. Dakshina means south. In all Shiva related temples the idol of Dakshinamurthy is placed facing south. He is the greatest of the greatest gurus (Master of Masters). There was a demon called Andhakasura (Darkness). He used to spread darkness and kill his enemies namely gods. Except Lord Shiva none had power to defeat or kill him. He could not be killed because he had stealthily swallowed a drop of Amrutha (Nectar). Gods are immortals. They don’t die because they were given Amrutha. Similarly whoever had swallowed a drop of Amrutha he (whether human, demon or any living being) would become immortal. So Andhakasura could not be killed. Lord Shiva fought and defeated him. On being victorious against darkness Shiva became remover of dark and giver of light. ‘Andha’ also means blind. He kept Andhakasura on floor and stamped him under His right leg and sat under a people tree facing south. Thus He came to be worshipped as Dakshinamurthy.
Lord Brahma had four manasaputras (sons created by mere thinking of them in His mind). They are Sanaka, Sananda, Sanathana and Sanathkumara. Lord Bramha left them with Lord Dakshinamurthy for teaching Vedas. They became pet student-disciples of Lord Shiva. They are normally seen around Lord Dakshinamurthy.
If you are coming to Bangalore from far of place you have number of city [BMTC] buses, autos, taxi and luxury cars on hire to travel within Bangalore city and suburb. Tourism department and private tourists arrange for Bangalore holiday packages and ‘Bangalore Darshan’. Bangalore is a very big city where you will not find difficulty to find decent accommodation and food. You need not depend on the touts are so called agents, who may exploit you by misguiding.
If you want to go for shopping you may go round M.G. Road, Brigade Road and Commercial Street to buy Indian dresses, but for sarees visit Chickpet, Kempegowda road, Malleswara and Jayanagar shopping complex. There are national and international clothes and accessories brands such as UB City, Mantri Mall, Garuda Mall and others.

People say it is 7000 years old. Official poster says it is 400 years old. The temple was found in 1997 only. Till then it was submerged under the soil and only upper part of Nandi was visible.While digging n the Idols of Nandi, Lord Shiva, Water tank with Turtles and fishes were found. Nandi is above Shiva. When the mouth of Bull was cleaned water started pouring uninterruptedly on Shiva. The source of water is still unknown. Both the nandi and shiva are facing south. Hence the temple is called Sri Dakshinamukhi Nandi Gurthu Kalyani Kshetra. Now people are believing that the water is having medicinal properties also.

This is a small temple located in the vicinity of Kadu Malleshwara temple in well-known Malleswaram area of Bangalore. Temple deity is Shiva in the form of Shiva Linga and a statue of Nandi kept above which are facing Dakshina meaning South direction. There is always water coming from Nandi’s mouth which is made to fall on Shiva Linga. No body knows the secret of this perennial water coming from Nandi.
There is also a water Pond (Kalyani in Kannada) in front of the deity and it’s inhabited by fishes and tortoises. There's calm and serenity at this place and was well maintained.

This is a small Shiva Temple in Malleshwaram, Bangalore. The temple has a Shiva Linga and a statue of Nandi, There is a water pool in the temple inhabited by fishes and tortoise. The temple was dug out from earth during an archeological excavation. Well maintained temple. Visited on Monday morning. Moderately crowded.

This temple is located in the Temple Layout of Malleshwaram. This temple was revealed during an archaeological excavation. One strange thing in this temple is that Shiva Linga is washed all the time with water flowing from Nandi's mouth. The temple has a small pool of water which is considered holy and is home to several fishes and tortoise.

Though being a native of Bengaluru, I had never visited this temple till date. The reason being, this temple was discovered very recently in the 90s.
Once you are inside the temple, you feel calm and at peace with the surroundings. The eternal theertha that flows from the Nandi's mouth onto the Shivalinga is a great sight to see and also to listen to the sounds of the water falling over the Lord. We spent a great deal of time sitting on the stone steps of the kalyani and experiencing peace.
Please do not miss an opportunity to visit this temple.

Beautiful temple in the heart of old Bangalore. A visit will actually remind you of the essence of old traditional Bangalore. Place can get really crowded during festivals. However during other times it is relatively calm and quiet. This is a must visit for people who are interested in witnessing traditional side of this city.

Recently renovated this temple is oldest in the area and a good attraction. Shops are less in the vicinity.

One of the oldest temples in the country. The temple has some unique features like water continuously falling from Nandis mouth on the head of Lord Shiva. It is still a mystery as to the source of water. The temple's architecture is beautiful.
