City Museum is located on the floor just above the Kite museum. It has got old weaving loom on display. The history of Ahmedabad through artefacts, paintings, folk art, craft and textile craft can be known. The old furnitures are kept on display.

Quite an interesting museum presenting the history of the city. Preparing for the trip, I had a strong belief that the city was founded by Ahmed Shah I in the XV century. Naturally, this period of history is presented in the museum very widely. But it turned out that in the current location of Ahmedabad since the 11th century there was another city, as demonstrated by the exhibits from the museum funds.
But, of course, the main attraction of the Museum lies in the fact that the author of its project was famous Le Corbusier, though, its realization was carried out only 35 years after his death. A very special organization of space by means of a rectangular spiral sequence of rooms, and other original architectural solutions – all this adds interest to the museum. And, maybe, even is a chief cause for the visit.

- Located on the floor above the Kite museum, city museum gives the glimpse of history of Ahmedabad via artefacts, paintings, folk art and craft , textile craft. It has got a n old weaving loom on display too. The old furniture has been aesthetically put on displayed. Also motorised fire tender from old days has been put on display on the ground floor itself. The museum is located at Sanskar Kendra and is easily accessible from Paldi crossing as well as from railway station through auto rickshaw.

It is the local history muesum being managed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Its a huge red coloured building near NID Paldi and has separate sections for history, art, culture. Do visit if you have some spare time and interest in museums .You would need more that an hour to cover the entire place. Also visit the kite museum which is in the same compound.

I got to know about the city museum so decided to go for a visit. In fact I enjoyed the kite museum more then the city museum. The good part is that they do not charge anything for the visit. They have a number of assorted statues and other artefacts, many of them are meant to provide a glimpse of the Guajarati culture and traditions. The place could definitely have been better maintained. They can charge a nominal fee and use the funds to maintain the place.

Just a namesake museum, there is hardly anything worth seeing here. There is a disfigured statue of Queen Victoria at the entrance and few statues scattered inside. The museum was supposed to depict the typical gujrati lifestyle but that is hardly displayed here. Avoid

I had a strong sense of deja vu when visiting the City Museum in Ahmedabad as it is very similar to the City Museum in Chandigarh which was also designed by Le Corbusier. Whilst the Chandigarh one has been well maintained, the Ahmedabad one doesn't appear to have been loved and looked after. Whilst Le Corbusier is the big architectural 'hero' of Chandigarh, he doesn't perhaps have the same respect in A'bad.
The contents are eclectic and very varied but if you can look past how messy and dusty it is an d how horribly badly lit the place is, then there are good things about this place. Like most Indian museums, whether you love it or hate it depends as much on YOU as on the museum. We were willing to turn a blind eye to the multiple crimes against curatorial skill and just enjoy the place.
There were some great photos relating to the Indian Independence movement, some very good comparative religion displays and some not entirely terrible modern art.
It's free - which is probably a good thing or they'd have next to no visitors. We quite enjoyed it but poor old Le Corbusier must be spinning in his grave.
