This park is really nice. Plenty of shade, places to eat and views of the river. You also get to witness how the water wheels irrigated the local area. On the day I visited, by continuing further down the river, there was some really interesting music being played by numerous bands. Well worth a walk.

This is one of the important historical sites of Lanzhou. The region surrounding Lanzhou is rather dry; so, a series of water wheels were built to transport water from the Yellow River. The park itself has two of those water wheels (there's another set of wheels further downriver). Also featured during warmer weather is sheepskin rafting on the Yellow River (the rafts themselves have a long history). The water wheels themselves are an interesting feat of engineering.

I visited the Lanzhou waterwheel parks in December 2020 to experience the ‘winter west’. This can be confusing though as there are two waterwheel parks along the Yellow River. The first is beside Nanbinhe East Road, and only 50 metres from the Yellow River Mother Sculpture. On Baidu Maps, it is called “Lanzhou Waterwheel Park (Southwest Gate 2)”. I did a five hour walk along this southern stretch of the river, seeing local people enjoying themselves. School children were sketching the two waterwheels, and answering questions on worksheets. Many small groups in ethnic minority costumes were dancing and playing musical instruments; an older man was teaching others how to whip-crack, old men were flying gigantic kites, serious cyclists were out, and throngs just walking. The second, called “Waterwheel Expo Garden” on Baidu Maps is along the same road and located between the Lanzhou and Jinyan Bridges. It has 20 waterwheels of different shapes, sizes and functionalities. As I was there in winter, the largest pair were not functioning but being interested in History, I found them fascinating. Their technical complexity and their capacity for ‘doing work’ in a pre-industrial era should not be underestimated. The park also has interesting sculptures of everyday people, a teahouse, and loads of information boards in Chinese and English. Compared to my own country and many others I have visited, I am impressed by how much investment Chinese cities have placed in their riverside parks.

Der Park liegt direkt am Flussufer und eignet sich perfekt zu einem entspannten Spaziergang und als Ort zum Verweilen.

中山鉄橋から東に徒歩20分でしたが、残念ながら以前の有料部分には入れなくなってました。停止してますが、水車の近くまで行って見れます。

The water wheels along the Yellow River are a very special part of Lanzhou's history. Although the river runs alongside where the town was established - it is a very dry region and over 200 water wheels were established to bring water to the region for farming and for the community.
They are fascinating structures and some are still operational so that one can experience how they operate.
A walk along the river is very satisfying and every tourist to Lanzhou must talk a leisurely walk to enjoy Lanzhou.

訪ねた日の前日から雨が続いていたため黄河の水位があがり危険、ということで公園は閉鎖、遠目に幾つか水車を眺めることしかできませんでした。ボート乗り場の切符売り場は下半分が水没していたり、冷蔵庫がプカプカ水面二浮いていたり、結構な水位上昇だったようです。周辺は黄河沿いに遊歩道のようになっていてお天気が良ければ散歩コースに丁度良いと思います。

蘭州市内には、水車を展示している施設が2か所あります。こちらは中山橋の近くで、より観光スポットに近いですが、規模は小さく、２機の水車があるだけでした。あいにく雨だったので、がらんとしていて寂しいかぎりでしたが、前日川岸の遊歩道から見下ろした時には、多くの地元のかたが寛いでいました。
