I traveled to Navala village by bus.
One can take a minivan or a bus from Nandi bus station to Lautoka bus station for 3 FJD.
From Lautoka take a bus or minivan to Ba bus station for 3 FJD.
From Ba bus station bus leaves around 12 pm and around 4 pm to Navala village daily except Sundays.
From Navala to Ba bus leaves from Navala around 1:30 pm ( the bus that started from Ba at 12 pm comes back to Ba) . Around 6:30 am in the morning the bus leaves Navala to Ba.

Buses don't run on Sundays.

Additional buses are there when school is in session.

Village stay
I stayed in the bure Fijian hut. One has to sleep on the mat. The host gave me a pillow and a comforter.
They provided dinner( casava, fish, spinach, eggplant), lemon grass tea, and snacks( pancake: fried dough).

They charged me 20 fjd for the stay. 20 fjd for food and 10 fjd to show the village.

The village entrance fee is 25 fjd given to the village treasure.
I got kava and gifted it to the chief.

The village tour included going to the village, school, and church.

The road is a disaster and you can barely get there with a normal car...it takes forever and three days...

The guide is very old, slow and forgetful.

He takes $20 for himself and gives $25 to the village!...but he doesn't do much and just strolls through this pretty village with you.
It's very pleasant and friendly there.
But the guide is a disgrace.
The scenery is unique anyway.
You have to decide for yourself...

3 seniors chose to go on this trip with Rosie’s Travel
Our driver William was entertaining and very informative.
It was a long, sometimes corrugated, drive through Ba to Navala but the four wheel drive was extremely comfortable and we loved seeing more of the country.
One of us was using a stick and this was well managed by both the driver and the village people.
We were warmly welcomed and shown around the traditional part of the village.
The food that was prepared was a mixture of interesting and tasty.
We found it difficult to eat with these lovely people watching us. However, that is part of the experience.
There was music, singing and a bit of a dance.
A highly recommended cultural experience!

A beautiful traditional village on a valley on the highland. We drove by a regular rented car directly from Nadi 70 km in beautiful scenery. Better to have 4wd but it was OK for a regular car with a good driver. Download a map as spots of no coverage on the way. The village offers a guide to take you around and lunch. People still live in traditional buros. The way back we went from Rirawi which is simpler and faster

Be very careful travelling to Fiji. Make sure you stay in a place with good Security. Don't trust the people.... they appear friendly but see how fast they turn when you don't give money to them... Scamming is becoming a national career of choice. Even small children are trained in Scamming.
Police there will not protect you.

This was a wonderful trip to a Fijian village characterised by its retention of many traditional houses. Our guide did a fantastic job of explaining many aspects of Fijian life on the travel from our hotel to the village. We also made a stop at the Ba market, which was an interesting experience.
Navala village is located in hilly country in Fiji's interior. We were welcomed to the village after a short ceremony conducted between our guide on our behalf and a representative of the village chief. We then did a tour of the village with a local guide before joining a kava drinking group, where we sampled this unique drink. It was then time for lunch prepared by a village family.
A long, tiring day but not something to be missed when visiting Fiji.

Having read some good reviews we thought we should drive and see the village.
From Nadi airport it is at least a 2 hour drive, the last 45 minutes of which is over unpaved and poorly formed roads
There is a sign at the entrance to the village, as attached, but the prices have been deleted.

We drove inside and parked on the side of the road where a couple of local people greeted us and asked if we wanted a tour, FJD25 each plus FJD10 for a guide.
We told them we only had $40 and they told us to wait.

When no one returned within 15 minutes we spent a couple of minutes looking at the original houses, but were disappointed that the village area is now predominantly modern houses with electricity and satellite dishes!

We're not sure how you'd arrange a tour but recommend not simply driving there, as we did, and hoping to get a tour.

We drove ourselves there in a rental car. The drive seems endless and there are no signs. We just asked people on the way. Everyone was friendly helpful and full of information. We had a lovely time as it was just 2 of us. We also had a village meal after our visit which cost extra, but helps the village out.

We spent alot of money hiring a 4x4 for the 5-6 hour journey over the highlands to get here over uneven large pot holes and gravel roads and finally we could see it on the horizon and what a disappointment. Inside the complex is not just the little grass houses, but also square houses, where the Fiji people live. At the entrance is this massive sign it will cost you $25FJ per person to enter, so that was $100FJ for the 2adults/2kids then you had to wear certain dress to enter. There must be at least 10-15 rules written on this board you had to comply with no pictures. We just got back in the car and drove off what a waste of our time and we were starving as there is no where to eat on the way. Definitely a tourist trap. I guess when you get there are such a long journey you will just pay.
