This museum also known as museo Abya -Ayala. Well worth a visit, free and you can get written guide to exhibits in English. It is on the main road and easy to find. There is a guard outside who requires any large bag to be put in locker outside - you keep the key to the locker. Then use the doorbell to get entry.

Small museum, but full with info about indigenous people. Little bit hard find, without lonelly planet impossible to realize just from the street. Close to Mariscal, I went walk. Do not miss it, even this is a small one.
The door is closed, left side there is button to doorbell, push it.
Other: there is super clean toilette inside.

Очень небольшой, по большей части этнографический музей. Шанс увидеть тсантса - специальным образом обработанные трофейные головы, обычай практиковавшийся у некоторых местных племен.

Pequeno museu que aborda a cultura amazônica local. Muito interessante. Vale a pena por 2 dólares conhecer o local. Muito próximo a Plaza Fochs.

We walked from the Hilton to the museum that is located in the University district and the museum is on 12th of October Ave. You need to ring the door bell and the attendant/gallery guide lets you in. Its open Mon. - Fri. 9AM to 5:30, closed for lunch 1 to 2 PM.
Have the guide show you around. There are many indigenous groups with only a few hundred members still left. The museum traces the groups from past to present and what has changed since the arrival of the colonizers. Deforestation is a major problem but the demise of these people is coming from oil drilling with Shell Oil being the largest intruder. Oil spills and bad water cover their farms, animals have left, the rivers have been dynamited to harvest the fish and leaving none for the tribal people. A very sad situation. Go to www.ups.edu.ec for more info.

After a leisurely 20 minute walk from the Folklore Olga Fisch store, we were looking forward to the Museo Amazónico in the Abya Yala complex. However, the museum is closed for restoration until August, 2013. The adjacent bookstore appeared to be open.
