When going to Saigon to eat seafood, sometimes you are worried about the price of seafood, and you may end up becoming a fish in the water. "Tian Tian Hao Seafood Restaurant" has the same processing prices for lunch and dinner. The prices are fair and transparent. There are no hidden charges and no corkage fees. The processing fee is charged per head:
⋄$60/1 disc for two persons
⋄Approximately $200/1 plate for eight people or more
⋄Additional vegetables and noodles will cost extra
⋄Sashimi will be more expensive
Ask the store clerk when you go back and know the price before eating, so you can eat with confidence.
I followed my friends who know how to drink and eat, and went to Sai Kung Pier boat stalls and Sai Kung markets to buy seafood, and then went to restaurants for processing. The facade is almost secluded, and the shop is not that big. Sitting down at the big round table, you can already hear the "Peng~Peng~" sound of cooking from the stove, and you can even hear the sound of the wok. There are ten of us in the group, and the processing fee for the eleven-flavor sauce is $1,380. Excluding the head fee, the meal is worth it, so the more people there, the better the meal is.
❖Boiled red rice
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Red rice (1kg) $128
Very thin, the shrimp shells are crispy and easy to peel, and the boiled shrimp tastes especially sweet and fresh, without any grit.
❖Stir-fried yellow razor clams with black bean pepper
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Yellow razor clams (about 1 jin) $100
⋄Processed ingredients: fried noodle base +$100
I was thinking about it at that time, and I saw that many stalls in the market sell them. I personally think that yellow razor clams taste better than king razor clams. They are as big and thin as a finger, and the meat is juicy and sweet. When you bite it open, you can feel the smell of sea water oozing out. , black bean pepper flavor, fried noodles crispy bottom, enough to dry the wok.
❖Boiled Shrimp
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Long-necked Mantis Shrimp (medium size) (1.5 pounds) $240
Abandon the salt and pepper and choose boiled, which brings out the fresh, sweet and original taste. It is so fresh and sun-dried that the meat is plump and fresh.
❖Boiled snail
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Thai jumping snails (1.5 pounds) $150
The meat is firm and elastic, with a fresh and sweet taste. Eat it with sweet and spicy sauce. Be careful because there are hooks at the end.
❖Fried yellow fin tiger ball
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Yellow Fin Tiger Banwei (2.5kg) $430
⋄Processed ingredients: Broccoli+$80
The net fish tail is 2 and a half kilograms. The meat is fried with balls and the meat is thick and firm, and the fish skin is full of gelatin.
❖Crispy Fried Squid
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Big tail squid (1 and a half pounds) $150
Big tail squid is the king of squids. It tastes a bit like cuttlefish. It is rare in the street market. It is fried to a crispy texture. The meat is thick and chewy. The squid tentacles are more crispy. The squid is kept moist and will not dry out due to frying. You can't look back after eating a big-tailed squid.
❖Fried Fangli
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Fong Li (1 item) $200
One of the best fish, the skin is fried to a crispy texture, the meat is rich and tender, and has a fishy taste, even the fish bones are eaten.
❖Fried croaker
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Taiwanese Yellow Croaker (3 pieces) $100
The outer skin is fried to golden brown and crispy, the meat is tender and sweet, rich in fish oil, and tastes a little salty.
❖Steamed fish (chopped)
⋄Wharf boat stall ►Liege fish (1 and a half pounds) $380
It is a seasonal sea fish and may not be often available in the market. If you want to try it, try your luck. The meat tastes good in the mouth. The meat is thick and solid, with few fish bones and rich in fish oil. It is best suited for steaming to better bring out the original taste of fresh fish.
❖Steamed Poached Fish with Salt Flowers
⋄ Pier boat stall ► Poached fish (1 piece) $120
This is my first time eating fish, and since it looks like a coral fish, I would be skeptical about eating it. In fact, most of them are caught by fishermen following the nets when trawling, but the opportunity is not common. In the process, the poached fish are damaged and destined to not grow large. Usually the fishermen will keep it for their own enjoyment, so it is a rare opportunity.
The fish is as big as the palm of your hand. The butter has already come out of the fish body after simple steaming. In order to lock in the butter, it is steamed without scaling. The meat is so tender and smooth. The skin is full of butter and you have to sip it, especially the butter on the fins. The most abundant and juicy ones, added with salt and pepper to enhance the freshness.
❖Steamed yellow-footed squid with salt flowers
⋄ Pier boat stall ► Yellow-footed squid (2 pieces) $150
There are several types of fish that do not need to be scaled and steamed when eating on the water. The yellow-footed leopard is one of them because the oil in the fish is too rich to prevent loss during steaming. The meat is soft and elastic, and the fish tastes rich and sweet.
❖Tofu, cabbage and seafood soup
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Assorted seafood (1 bag)
⋄Processed ingredients: cabbage, tofu +$50
If you buy more from the same stall, they will usually be given to you. You just need to have them processed by the restaurant. In fact, this bag of seafood is definitely not like the stuff from the bottom of the market. Fish, shrimps, crabs and clams are real ingredients and the soup is strong and sweet.
❖Clam cheese fried rice with green onions
⋄Sai Kung Market ► Clams (1 box) $40
⋄Add cheese+$80
It is a hidden dish. It was designed by a friend who has been eating it for a long time and wanted to try something new. The store manager helped him design it. A large amount of clam meat and cheese juice is spread all over the plate of fried rice, slowly dripping down to the plate, and a bowl of cheese juice is served on top. It's so evil, but so attractive. The clam meat is so big that it can only be chewed, and it's fragrant. The cheese juice was added with a lot of chopped green onion, and each piece of fried rice was wrapped in an egg. The portion was full. I was already very full at this time, but I couldn't resist eating a bowl, so I packed it into a box and returned home to sigh.
This meal was a lunch, but it was richer than dinner. I was so full that I could walk on the wall. The ingredients and processing cost $450 per person. It was very affordable. The workmanship was top-notch. The clerk was kind and courteous, changed the plates carefully, and handed over wet wipes. If you don’t want to buy seafood yourself, restaurants can purchase it on their behalf, and you’ll be reimbursed for what you pay. The price of seafood usually varies depending on the day and time. In addition, I found that the fried noodles and the special side dishes at noon are both delicious, without adding any extra, it is enough to make the wok delicious, and it has become my dining room.

Big Head Kitchen is located on the ground floor of No. 17 Man Nin Street, Sai Kung. There are not many people in the shop, so we went for lunch on Sunday 🥢 ~ Baked pork chop rice $60, stir-fried rice with melon and pork ribs $62, tuna sandwich with Thousand Island sauce $33, frozen milk tea $24, frozen milk tea $2 (meal price) and Tea walk (with meal).
▫️Baked Pork Chop Rice ~ The pork chop has no taste, but it needs to be cooked well.
▫️Stir-fried melon and pork ribs ~ The taste is normal and the portion is large.
▫️Thousand Island Sauce Tuna Sandwich ~ Frozen and not good to eat.
▫️Frozen milk tea ~ The milk tea tastes average.
▫️The tea is gone~ There is less condensed milk, so it is very bland.
Personally, I feel it's just so-so, and the price/performance ratio isn't very high.
🏷️Warm reminder~ The entire dining experience is a personal opinion shared and is for reference only😊.

My wife wanted sea food, especially scallops and razor clams cooked with soy source and thin Chinese vermicelli. Though I know good places in the city, I took her to San Kung because the weather was so good to have fresh air.
At the waterfront, there were a number of seafood restaurants and we chose Kam Kee as it looked clean and fine and there were many foreign people eating. Looking at the scene, I thought it would be a bit expensive. But as a foreign tourist, it would be safe place with English speaking service people.
We chose 2 pieces of small geoduck clams (to be steamed with soy sour and vermicelli), 2 pieces of steamed razor clams (to be steamed with soy sour and vermicelli), a reasonably plateful amount of small clams (to be steamed with black bean source), a plate of vegetable and fried rice.
Generally the food was good but not excellent. When we checked out, I was astonished at the bill amounting to HKD 1005!!! So I asked for details and was surprised at that they charged vermicelli at HKD 41. At that price, I'd rather have wanton noodle at the very famous restaurant at Central. I don't believe that the raw materials of HKD 450 was fair, either.
On the street, they advertise 2 person course at below HKD 300 per person. The set menu list looked long. We were not that hungry so we ordered a la carte. The fried rice at HKD 128 and vegetable at HKD 98 were relatively cheap compared with the sea food. Please be noted that they charge seafood material and cooking fee separately. At the end of the menu book, there are pages of complex matrix of cooking fee.
Please share your experience so that I could know what I have done wrong.

A local village turned into a tourist attraction. The place has plenty of good quality seafood restaurants, where you can find fresh seafood at reasonable prices. There are also restaurants serving western and Japanese food too. From the numerous piers on the seafront, tourists can ride on the shuttle boats to visit the nearby outlying islands. The place is usually very crowded during weekends and holidays. Some restaurants charge higher prices on these days too. Much better to go on a weekday.

Sai Kung is a small town at the northeastern part of the New Territories. The waterfront as well as the seafood restaurants scattered along the promenade is the liveliest and somehow most touristy part. If live shellfish cooked in local style is not your thing, a stroll around the pier is particularly enjoyable. The only downside is chronic traffic congestion during weekends.

Tourist trap with overpriced seafood restaurants and very poor service. Especially this Chuen Kee Seafood restaurant which was terrible. Too them an hour to service between each dish and they serve it to wrong table and reserved it to us. During these covid times, not exactly hygienic and customer service oriented. Never going to this restaurant again and would not recommend it to anyone

This is a tourist spot, and not just for foreign visitors - so there are good things to do as well as the usual tourist traps. So know what you are getting. Lots of people go for seafood - the restaurants there have been consolidated into a few large operators, and the price ranges from very reasonable for set meals for average fare, to very overpriced if you pick fresh seafood from the tanks and you do not know what you are doing (cheating on weight of seafood as well as swapping inferior fare occur regularly). There are boats selling all manners of seafood directly from the boats, and once again there are good bargains to be had if you know what you are doing. Some folks complain about lack of night life or the smell, but this is a live seafood street - there are certainly other options just a few minutes away in the streets next to the promenade.

The promenade runs along the waterfront and is lined with local seafood restaurants and collections of fish tanks with live fish, lobsters and shellfish. The unfamiliar, ‘mystery’ creatures like sea slugs, jelly fish and sea cucumbers, caught my eye.
On weekends, there is a lot of activity. Families are out and about, strolling along the promenade and the harbour is busy with speedboats, sampans, fishing boats and wooden junks. Kaitos (small ferries) will take you out to Sharp Island, Hap Mun Bay and Kiu Tsui Beach from here.
One of the most interesting sight is the floating seafood market. Fishermen sell their day’s catch directly from their boats which are tethered to the pier like a floating market. It's colourful sight. They hawk their fresh seafood to the crowd that gathers up above on the pier. A sale is made, the fish get weighed and bagged and are then hoisted up in long-poled nets to the customers.
There are a few relaxed, casual bars also, where you can sit, looking over the harbour and take it all in.
If you only have a couple of days in Hong Kong, then Sai Kung is a bit off the beaten track and it probably won’t be on your itinerary. However if you have more time, then you get to see a different side to Hong Kong. For those who are interested, there’s a lot to see. Getting to Sai Kung, from Central will take a long time by public transport and will involve a combination of MTR and buses. Taxi or uber will cost about $200.

Hi,
If I want to go Sai Kung to see the floating seafood market, is it advisable to be there earlier in the morning like 8-10 am or will they still be there in the afternoon for example; 1-2 pm?
Thanks in advance!

Hello jeromel47! Don't worry, the seafood market goes on most of the day! If visiting on a weekend, its better after lunch in my opinion as there is more activity to see along the pier where the fisherman have moored their boats. Definitely less action during weekdays.
If you need more information about sightseeing in Hong Kong, I'd recommend the TripAdvisor Hong Kong forum where there are helpful local experts and other volunteers who can quickly answer pretty much any questions you have about HK.

Hi, Could anybody tell me the best way to get to San Kung? I see buses and boats mentioned in the reviews - but what is best? I will be going there from Hong Kong (although not yet sure where I am staying). Thanks for any info you can provide. Cheers
