Nice smooth easy river that leads to Hanalei beach where you can SUP or kayak. Leads to Park and beach where many people start their water sports.

a nice kayak trip , and there are creatures to see if you wait and take the time. not spectacular, but a nice safe kayak ride with birds and other creatures to look for.

Great river to SUP or kayak

I recommend getting there early. We rented our SUP early and headed out. Beautiful and easy paddle river. Beautiful views. Paddled as far as the river let us. Keep going a bit past the bridge to the end and sit and relax and let the current take you while you enjoy the scenery. Definitely a great way to spend a few hours of the morning.

You will be glad you drove up to this site. Looks down on the beautiful river where others are Kayaking and the tiny village below.

Nice river for kayaking or SUP

Great location for Kayaking or Standup paddling. Traverses nice scenic areas of the local area. Calm river requiring minimal effort for kayaking or stand up paddling.

Gentle river, great for kayak

We parked in the Hanalei beach park and put our kayak in the river near where it empties into the ocean. We then paddled upstream (gentle river, little current) for 45 minutes to reach the bridge over the river. There are some trees providing shade, and some open areas with lots of sun. We passed a few other people on the river (kayaks and SUP). We turned around and took another 45 minutes to get back to our starting point.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT

The river flows from the headwaters on Mt. Waialeale through the Hanalei NWR under the Kuhio highway, then alongside the road into Hanalei, on into the ocean close to Hanalei Pier. In the town of Hanalei, numerous kayak and paddleboard rentals allow you to explore the river. The Hanalei Valley lookout provides a nice view of the river and valley.

River flows from the mountains to the sea!

From the Hanalei Lookout in Princeville you can see the waterfalls in the mountains towards the interior of the island. As you travel down the steep grade of the twisting roadway into the Hanalei valley below, you can see the river carrying water away from the mountains, along the big taro farm, and under the one-way bridge. As you drive toward the town center, along the river, it gets a little wider and bigger. Then it fans out at the mouth into a cove, and meets the ocean water of Hanalei Bay. This wide area makes the perfect spot to take out a kayak or a paddle board, and float on the bay or travel back upriver a ways for a workout. There's a kayak rental and tour company here for your pleasure. Paddle boards are also available, and the more daring can try surfboards on the gentle waves in the bay. A great and pretty place to have some adventure and some fun!

This is. Beautiful river in the heart of Kauai. Do not swim in any of the rivers, but paddle boarding and kayaking are both just fine!
