The Lorne Pier to Pub is an open water race over 1.2km. It will be held on 14 January 2023. It is one of the world's greatest open water races. The winner receives nothing but glory. The 2023 race is the 43rd time the swim has been held. Lorne is located on the well-known Great Ocean Road, it's a popular surf beach.

My wife and I stayed at The Sands Golf Resort in Torquay for two nights during our recent holiday. We drove from Torquay to Lorne, making several stops along the way to visit a few places.
When we got to Lorne, we parked our car and walked along the beach to The Lorne Pier, where we walked the full length of the Pier, to enjoy the scenic views and the exercise.

Great little pier and the smell of the salt air is amazing from the minute you step out of your car.

The Lorne Pier is on the Shipwreck Trail, in the beach town of Lorne on Victoria's Southern Coast. The Lorne Pier is best known for the Pier to Pub swim, the largest open water race in the world. The race is around 1.2 km (3/4 mile). The race began as a fun event, but now it's a serious event with much prestige for the winner. The winning time is around 12 minutes, though mosr swimmers do the course in around 20 minutes.. The race is held every January..

The Lorne Pier is good for a stroll. The views are excellent if you care to dangle a line, you might catch something. Parking is cramped, it might be best to find somewhere not too far away and walk for a bit, especially in warm weather. The pier is certainly worth inspecting if you are staying for the weekend,

My wife and I walked here from The Mantra Resort (around one kilometer each way) along the beach to enjoy the scenery and the physical exercise, during our recent holiday in Lorne, staying for three nights.
During our walk, we saw several people either jogging or walking along this track to The Pier.

Always love checking out a seaside pier when I’m touring. Lovely spot with a nice restaurant. Popular for fishing. Offers nice views of area. Parking is very limited though. Toilets are up

The original pier was built in 1879 to serve the logging industry and was replaced with a new one (great) over ten years ago.The pier is good but the parking area and buildings at the pier not to the standard of the pier and Lorne generally.

The Lorne Pier is easy to find. It is just opposite the Grand Pacific Hotel as you are leaving Lorne on the Great Ocean Road if heading West. There is a good sized car park.
The pier itself was closed for maintenance when I visited but I still stopped to take some photos. The restaurant at the land end of the pier was open and there were as many cockatoos as there were diners. The Sulphur Crested Cockatoos around Lorne have learned that tourists are an easy food source and they are quite comfortable in very close proximity to people. If you want to get a good photo of a cocky this is a good place.
The shoreline is very rocky, and the rocks around the boat ramp are strewn with kelp and other vegetation from the sea. It is a popular fishing spot. There was one fisherman out on the rocks and several more waiting for the workers to leave so that they could sneak onto the pier. I spoke to one bloke who told me that different fish could be caught on different sides of the pier--salmon on one side, and bream and flathead on the other, from memory.
Across the road the Grand Pacific Hotel is certainly grand, but it is nowhere near the Pacific. Built in the 1870's, this is a very attractive 3 story building with wrought iron balustrades all along the middle and top floor balconies. I was able to get a good angle from the entrance road to the Lorne Pier car park.

Stunning place to get photos, clearly see the lighthouse at Aireys Inlet as well as the Lorne urbanised township from out on the end of the pier.
