We spent an enjoyable few hours walking this trail from the Hilton back to town, after being dropped off by the water taxi.
The water taxi makes this an enjoyable and scenic start to the walk, and if you want, you can grab a coffee or snack at the Hilton before the short walk to the bridge over the Kawarau River.
Pause here to watch the jetboats, then simpy follow the lake back to town.
The Boatshed Cafe at the marina is a good spot for lunch, and make sure you keep looking back, as the views of the Remarkables are superb.
There's not a lot of shade on this walk, so bring a hat, and there's also sections where you can be quite exposed to the wind, if it's a blustery day.
This is not the most spectacular walk you will do, but it's flat, easy, has some lovely views, and can also be done with a bike.

Peaceful scenic mostly flat walk around the lake. Clean & clear water lake that is well used for swimming and boats. So many photo opportunities along the way. The bridge goes over the junction with shotover river where the jet boats go. There is a great cafe near the marina to stop and have lunch. If a two way walk is too far for you there is the local bus you can catch back. Follow the path at the bottom of the botanical gardens and keep going.

It's easy to become entranced by the beautiful vistas this path offers and to forget that the path is shared by walkers, runners and cyclists (even some on segways). Beauty surrounds and makes the kms slip easily under your feet.
I started by the Frankton camp and ended in the Queenstown Gardens about 1.5 hours later. From Frankton there are options to go further, eg Kelvin Heights, Arrow town and beyond.

Easy flat trail walk. Gorgeous views on a clear day. Watch out for cyclists as they share the trail. Stopped at The Boat Shed bistro at Frankton Marina for some delicious scones, coffee, brunch. Well recommended!

El día antes de regresar a Madrid decidí darme un buen paseo por los alrededores de Queenstown. Dicho y hecho. Justo enfrente de mi hotel (Novotel Queenstown), donde hay un pequeño parque infantil, comienza una senda maravillosa, que bordea continuamente el lago Wakatipu. La senda llega incluso hasta Arrowtown (a 28-30 kms). Yo hice en total, ida y vuelta, 20 kms (3 horas largas). El día era maravilloso y no recuerdo haber hecho una caminata tan maravillosa y tan inolvidable en mi vida. Las vistas que tenía delante en todo momento las tengo grabadas en la memoria para siempre. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Staying at Blue Peaks meant we were very close to the trail. The trail goes for some way so we walked the part nearest to Queenstown. The trail follows the edge of the lake with beautiful views over the lake and mountains beyond. It's flat so the walk is gentle and very enjoyable watching lake users. The trail went right through the lakefront and quay which is vibrant with plenty of cafes and restaurants.

Staying in Kelvin Heights we enjoyed morning walks up to the old bridge just past the Hilton before stopping in at the Hilton for coffee and walking back.
Delightful walk with plenty to look at along the way. The trail has some rises and declines and plenty of flat sections. Some of the trail is shaded also.
Walkers and bike riders share the same path.

This is a scenic pathway that runs alongside Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown NZ. It is 4.5 miles in length and links Queenstown to Frankton.
A beautiful walk/run/bike with a stunning view of the lake and snow-peaked mountains beyond.
