Perfetto per una gita di un giorno. Ci sentivamo come "in vacanza", ma era meno di mezz'ora sul traghetto. I bambini hanno adorato il giro in barca, hanno mangiato fish and chips sulla spiaggia, una visita ai negozi e al caffè Tartines a Eastbourne e poi il gelato sul molo mentre tornavamo al CBD.

Prenditi una pausa dalla frenetica Wellington facendo questo facile viaggio in traghetto per Days Bay. Posto abbastanza buono per passeggiare con alcuni caffè lungo la strada di fronte alla spiaggia, Marine Drive. Davvero un buon posto per rilassarsi, quando il tempo è bello e calmo, ma non in tempo ventoso. Nel fine settimana, inizia il primo traghetto alle 10:00 da Queens Wharf a questo luogo, arriva alle 10 . 40:00, trascorri il tuo tempo in questo posto fino alle 15:00 per prendere il traghetto per tornare a Queens Wharf. E, se lo desideri e hai tempo, puoi aggiungere una sosta extra e trascorrere 1 ora e 20 minuti a Matiu/Sommes Island prima di tornare a Queens Wharf, prendi il traghetto alle 4 . 40 pm, ritorno a Welly Beachfront entro le 17. 05:00. Oppure trascorri l'intera giornata qui fino all'ultimo traghetto per il lungomare di Wellington alle 5 . 30 pm, e puoi esplorare l'Eastbourne Village e l'East Harbor Regional Park fino al Pencarrow Light House in bicicletta. Avventura di un'intera giornata.

Wellington’s best kept secret!

Perfect for a day trip. Felt like we were ‘on holiday’ but it was less than half an hour on the ferry. The kids loved the boat ride, had fish and chips on the beach, a visit to the shops and Tartines cafe in Eastbourne and then icecream back on the wharf on our way back to the CBD.

Good break from busy Wellington

Take a break from busy Wellington by doing this easy ferry trip to Days Bay. Quite good place to stroll with some cafes along the beach front road, Marine Drive. Really good place to relax, when the weather is good and calm, not in windy time though. At the weekend, start the first ferry at 10am from Queens Wharf to this place, arrive 10.40am, spend your time on this place until 3pm for catch the ferry back to Queens Wharf. And, if you wish and have time, you can add extra stop and spend at Matiu/Sommes Island for 1hr 20 minutes before heading back to Queens Wharf, catch ferry at 4.40pm, back to Welly beach front by 5.05pm. Or spend your whole day here until the last ferry back to Wellington waterfront at 5.30pm, and you can explore Eastbourne Village, and East Harbor Regional Park up to Pencarrow Light House with bicycle. Full day adventure.

Days Bay Stranded Boat

Visited a beautiful bay in Wellington which has been renamed Dave's Bay since an apparently homeless man (called Dave) ran his yacht ashore a couple of weeks ago on purpose.
The bay is lovely for swimming and boating.
New Zealand is awesome as even homeless people have yachts here.
It's a boatie paradise.

Pebbles rather than sand

Good to visit by ferry but not a lot here. Beach not sandy. Short walk to Eastbourne which has restaurants and shops

Nice day trip from Wellington

We took the ferry over from Wellington's waterfront. We wanted to get rental bikes and the main place to do so is the Bikeshed over in Pencarrow, about 3.5 kms away. You can take a bus from Day's Bay, but it is also possible to get cruiser bikes from the Boatshed near the Day's Bay Wharf. We did this, and had the option to swap them for mountain bikes once we reached the Bikeshed (same company). However, the cruiser bikes were comfortable and worked fine, so we just kept the same bikes and rode them all the way out to the Pencarrow Lighthouse and back. Then had lunch at the Chocolate Days Cafe and took the ferry back.

an ok place

We were put off by the slow service of the pavillion, but were really delighted with the art shop. Had a great time looking about there. We also walked to eastbourne and saw some lovely and interesting houses. Probably should had gone when it was warmer, but a good day out to get there

AS a visitor its easy to bypass what is staring youin the face, but we bentured out onto the whaft but first bought our Hoey Pokey icecreams from the Ice cream cafe just near the shore end of the pier.standing at the end discovered a ferry from Wellington arrives, one day will take the trip

Dining at Sea Salt Restaurant

Trip Adviser is still showing "The Cobar" at this site. The restaurant is now Sea Salt, whilst the Cobar was an above average Diner, the Sea Salt is a step above and over, Really enjoyable European style and excellent.

Yes, its a beach area near Wellington (which there are not a lot of) however, there are only a couple of cafes and limited things to do.

Spend your day at Day's Bay

Nice stretch of beach where you can rent kayaks, etc and buy yummy ice cream. Also, you can catch a ferry across to Wellington Wharf if you wanted to do something different. Lots of enthusiasts jumping from the Jetty provide some visual entertainment or you can take the plunge yourself. The shoreline has lots of pebbles which is uncomfortable when entering the water but just a short few meters into the water and you're standing on luxurious, soft, silky sand. Clear, cold water and nice swimming to be had. Go and spend a day there
