For those unfamiliar with Australia 's only canonized saint, this little museum provides a worthy introduction. Housed in a place where Many McKillop lived and worked, you get a great sense of her presence.

Decided by chance to visit this centre.
What a beautiful story & such a lovely setting.
People on roster were very helpful as well.
Tea & coffee were available free of charge if needed.
This centre has a very modern addition which houses shop, apartments for retired sisters & very modern apartments for general public, who may need to stay.
Very interesting story of Mary MacKillop.

There are a few minor attractions near the Mary Mackillop Heritage Centre that make it something you might want to stop by at for a few moments.
Mary Mackillop is probably the most famous religious figure in Australia at the time of writing and this nice older building is set up to provide some small insight into her background and life. A couple of galleries provide this a few personal items are also on display. There is a gift shop attached and of course much of what is on offer is of a religious bent. The staff are lovely to a fault.
Of course this sort of remembrance of a religious figure will only appeal to a few travellers though some lovely nearby churches mean you could certainly get your 'fix' in a limited area. And it must be said that it is not the most massive of historical collections.
But if you are passing my then popping in for ten minutes (entry by donation) is not a bad idea.

I went to visit and have a look at this Centre but unfortunately it was by appointment only on the weekend. The building is bluestone and has lovely grounds with a statue and also some artwork on the wall. The sign said it had a Museum and also there were residences there. A cafe is also available. I hope to return on a weekday for a good look inside.

Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre (MMHC) East Melbourne a spiritual place that ‘welcomes’ all that enter and a sense of peace ‘embraces’ you. St Mary carried out her work from this centre, one of a few locations in Melbourne where she her fellow Sisters of St Joseph worked with the poor, impoverished and some young women who reverted to prostitution for survival in confronting and challenging times of early Melbourne.
There is also a Museum tells the story of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, her life and work and the work of the Sisters of St Joseph. The museum highlights Mary’s early life and her journey as a Sister of St Joseph which she founded in particular emphasis education and welfare. There is also a variety of artefacts’ which enables the visitor to gain a better understanding of Mary’s work and the conditions she was challenged with and yet embraced in her deep faith.
There is a chapel in which Mary MacKillop prayed. In particular view the reliquary.
