This is a must visit place in Wilsons prom. You need to hike in a fair distance to get there and stay at the lighthouse precinct in one of their fabulous looking guest houses, or else stay at one of the nearby campgrounds like Roaring Meg or Little Waterloo Bay. Lots of interesting history and buildings here - the lighthouse was built in the mid 1800s. Because there was a large group of us, we were able to get the onsite ranger to give us a tour of the museum. There are picnic tables looking out to see and a flushing toilet complete with loo paper and hand sanitiser. It's heaven on a stick here!

This place is amazing!! The only way to get to it is to hike the 19km in and then back out again!

The walk is long and fairly boring for the most part! There are 2 ways to get there, the first being, walking down the gravel access road, it’s not particularly pretty and while it starts off flat there are also some massive hills! When you finally catch sight of the light house there is still a couple of hours walking to actually get there! The last bit is a 700metre concrete very steep driveway to get to the top!

The other way is longer but more scenic! We went this way on the way out and it’s definitely worth the extra few kilometres! You start of meandering through the bush, ending up at Waterloo bay which is 1km walking along the beach, then cross the middle of the island which is flat then back to the boring gravel road for the last 6km!

The lighthouse, wow! The care takers are a lovely couple and nothing is to much trouble.
You need to carry all your own food in but they do supple tea, coffee and milk. You also have to carry all your rubbish back out again.

We stayed in the cottage, it is shared accommodation with 4 rooms and a shared sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen kitchen and 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets. You wouldn’t even really know there are other people there so it actually works well! The cottage is very clean and looked after. The grounds are beautiful and the views are amazing!
There are a couple of resident wombats who came out every afternoon.

We were able to go to the top of the lighthouse and there is also a museum with lots of interesting things to see and read.

We stayed 2 nights which I would recommend as it is a long walk carrying all your things in! And it’s so pretty that’s it’s worth the day exploring the area and just watching the ocean.

What a way to end a hike! I have to say I was really impressed with the quality of the accomodation. It was really impressive. The kitchen is fully kitted out with everything you need including a fridge. They have tea and coffee for you with milk. Colin the caretaker was amazing host and took us to the museum and took us on a little tour in the morning before we headed off again. Pro tip: the booking website is horrible, you only need to select one person then you can add others later...

We went as a group of 8 and stayed at one of the cottages for 1 night. It is a long walk but so worth it, we also did the South Point side trip (an extra 7kms). We left Telegraph saddle car park just after 8am and arrived at the Lighthouse around 4.30pm. The cottage was very comfortable and the staff very welcoming - Renata cheering us on as we made our way up the steep driveway! the next day we walked back to Tidal river via Oberon Bay and Norman Bay another long day of walking but the scenery spurs you on. We walked over 50 km in 2 days - a great achievement.
We hired doonas and they were warm and cosy - very worthwhile. Colin from Parks Victoria did a great job giving us a tour of the Lighthouse and sharing all about the area and the history - thanks so much!

We stayed at the lighthouse cottage. It was spectacular! Our national parks guide Graham was fantastic and very informative around the history of the lighthouse. It is a hard walk to get there but well worth it! Thanks again Graham

I confirm all the previous reports, this is a magical spot. Try to take the walking tracks where you can to see the diverse vegetation and animals, birds wallabys etc, not the same as the access track. November we had many native flowers out and the honey blossom was amazing. The Lighthouse is fantastic, we stayed 2 nights to enjoy the views & plenty of whales on our lay day & let the legs recover a bit! Despite the cost (everyone complains about the high costs all over the Prom), not be deterred, its a great escape and while the weather is always variable just pack for it. We hired doonas for the night and didnt need to carry sleeping bags and just carried a small day pack with all our food, grog & clothes. The whales where certainly a highlight as well as wonderful Parks staff - thank-you I think you have the best job in the world!

All good at Wilsons Prom Lighthouse, with the exception of the price per night per person. $130 per night per person for a bunk bed and use of a kitchen and bathroom is a bit steep for mine! If a couple go and want to stay two nights, your up for over $500!

We parked at Telegraph saddle to start the walk. You must have an overnight permit and prebooked accommodations at the lighthouse. Moderately hard walk in places, but any keen walker could complete it.We took the walkers track through the bush rather than stay on the relatively boring Telegraph track/road.This took a little longer. There bare a few rest spots along the way with tables etc. We saw Gang Gang cockatoos and Yellow tailed black cockatoos, some spiritely fantails and numerous wrens. A few wallabies and a baby black snake. Some wonderful views en route and the first siting of the lighthouse perched out on its rocky promontory was special. We met the change over rangers climbing out to their vehicle about 30 mins from our destination. Whilst we kept getting enticing glimpses of the light station through the trees, it seemed to take forever to do the last few km’s. Like a mirage that kept moving away from us. The rangers had warned us about the final 700m. A concrete driveway down to the heliport area, that is very steep. There is a halfway bench seat which was welcome to rest on and take in the wonderful views. The wind was blowing a gale but we were lucky that it was behind us most of the way and turned around overnight and helped our return. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly ranger who showed us around our bunk accommodation. We were pleasantly surprised how clean and well equipped it was. Full kitchen, lovely hot showers and views to die for. We had carried in a gourmet meal and we were able to enjoy a nice scotch pre-dinner as the wind howled around us, then some beautiful fillet steak and vegetables.with a nice glass of red wine. Followed by chocolate. Virtually no mobile coverage which was good. We shared the accomm with 3 other people but had our own bunk room for the two of us. Tha facilities worked very well and we did not get in each others road.. You have to carry all rubbish back out other than food scraps,so our packs were much lighter on the return missing the lovely food and drinks. There was an offer of a lighthouse tour at 8.30 am which we didn’t take, keen to get on our way. The walk was about 6 hours, but could be faster if you stay on the road. The views at the light station are stunning. I lost my car keys en route and was prognosticating on how to get home to get my spares, but when I arrived back at the carpark, a good samaritan had found them and attached them to my windscreen wipers. So grateful for that..
I will do that trip again sometime..highly recommended

Went to the lighthouse 5 years ago and always wanted to go again. This place is special. The lighthouse is kept really well. The accommodation is superb. The staff is very friendly, helpful and informed. There were whales around at this time of the year as well so, that made it even better. Saw wombats, blue tongue, snake and skippys. You don’t need to carry much more than your food which makes this hike even better.
