You really don't need a tour. Take the ferry from Circular Quay (costs about $8 Aus) one way. You will need an Opal Card (available almost anywhere especially at convenience stores and also at the ferry landing at Circular Quay). If you go on Sunday the total cost is less than $3 for round trip. Manly beach is a short 5 minute walk from the ferry landing - literally a straight shot. Very easy to get to.

Hi Michael, Not in the Rocks but a great boutique hotel (more like an Inn), Is Simpson’s of Potts Point . This is a historic Victorian mansion on a tree-lined street with about 12 rooms, and is a 20-minute walk to the Rocks via the lovely harbor, with possible side trip through the beautiful Botanic Gardens. Potts Point has many great restaurants and cafes within walking distance of Simpsons. We loved our stay at Simpsons and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for intimate charm. The staff are great at recommending things to do in Sydney as well. Breakfast is included with your stay. Have a great trip!

Don't catch a taxi, full stop. Traffic is bad, will take up to 1 hour depending on traffic, and $120 return. $16.50 each way on the train from the domestic terminal, takes 20 minutes, comes every 10 minutes or so, and get off at Circular Quay. 5 minute walk to the Rocks.

Paddington Market is a community market set up in the grounds of a church, its sells clothing, books, records, antiques, has some commercial food outlets, sells vegetables & fruit and has a real social feel about it. The Rocks Market is more commercial, full of artists, jewellery makers, clothing, souvenirs, furniture, in the heart of an area full of cafes and restaurants, very touristy and quite expensive, not a place to look for a bargain. Not to be confused with Paddy's Markets which is at Haymarket near Central, opens every day and sells fresh produce especially fruit and vegetables on Friday & Saturday. I hope that helps you.

The whole Rocks area is about 1 kilometre square, so there is no need to worry about public transport to get around. Just go for a stroll around the narrow streets and enjoy the views. Also worth looking in the tourist shops and quaint cafes and pubs for some great food.
