Memorial australiano

Precioso memorial australiano de la Primera Guerra Mundial, que conmemora a mil cien soldados de ese pais caidos en la Batalla de Fromelles y que no pudieron ser identificados.
Rodeado de espacios relacionados con la ww1, como monumentos conmemorativos, cementerios y algun museo, es una bonita construccion conmemorativa de lo que aqui paso y merece la pena acercarse a conocerlo

Militaire begraafplaats & herdenkingsmonument voor de Britse en Australische troepen die sneuvelden tijdens de Slag bij Fromelles op 19 en 20 juli 1916.
In totaal worden 1.581 gesneuvelden herdacht waarvan 410 ongeïdentificeerde Australische soldaten.

Lest we forget
set 2020
Un endroit très émouvant, si important dans notre histoire. Une façon de remercier les soldats Australiens tombés pour nous. De véritables héros.

They got it right.

My Great Uncle was killed at Fromelles but because he was not reported as missing until a day later, his name as missing, presumed dead, was placed on the Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux. Once his remains were found at Pheasants Wood, his name was placed on a new plaque at VC Corner.

Some of the casualties with no known grave are listed here.

Missing with no head stones . missing but found on fields of Fromelles a sad but pretty cemetery to the Aussie boys lost. The town folk of Fromelles pay honor to the Fallen each Anzac day.

"there’s some corner of a foreign field forever Australia"

A deliberate interpretation from the good book but so apt for all cemeteries and monuments when I am near commemorations to the fallen who gave so much for this today - "Pass me not, Stranger, Hear my humble cry; While on to other monuments, Thou art calling, Do not pass me by, Refrain and stay a while,"
Staying a while in any, but in this wall of names, no graves, on a warm autumnal day, we can easily drive on by or not visit at all, but that is shameful to my soul when you consider their sacrifice. There's only names. Supposedly MIA, but perhaps their grave lost.
Pause a while regardless of the weather. Indeed the Menin gate and Plogsteert have more names, but this should be equally as powerful to everyone's soul.
Well worth a visit to reflect and give thanks, pay homage to these blokes doing their bit.
To end my apologies to the purist for the Brooke mis-quote as the original prose is applied to England referencing home. For these guys it was Australia.

An amazing story behind this place

The VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission World War I cemetery and memorial located near Fromelles, about 2 kilometres northwest of the village on the D22C road (rue Delval). The cemetery contains 410 unidentified bodies of Australian soldiers retrieved from the battlefield after the Armistice, more than two years after the battle. There are no headstones in the cemetery, but two large concrete crosses laid face down in the grass mark where the soldiers are buried. Although the graves are not individually marked, these are individual graves, not a mass grave. The memorial lists almost 1,300 Australian soldiers who were lost in the battle and who have no known resting place.

A quelques mètres du mémorial Australien, ce cimetière vous fait réfléchir sur le sacrifice de ces troupes venues des antipodes.
