Although it was not the peak season for visiting Lonar Lake and the rain and slippery roads prevented us from experiencing the forest trail, we look forward to a return visit during the November-January months. Despite these challenges, we enjoyed seeing sights such as Gomukh Dhar, Paphareshwar Mandir, and various other temples and structures that exemplify Hemadpanthi and Yadav Kalin designs. The visit to Motha Maruti/Sleeping Maruti/Magnetic Maruti was particularly memorable.
A highlight of our trip was reaching Watch Tower 1 and Watch Tower 3, where we were treated to an astonishing and beautiful panoramic view of Lonar Lake. The monsoon rains, lush greenery, and scenic vistas were a perfect backdrop for our visit.
One of the architectural masterpieces we saw was the Daitya Sudan Temple, located outside the Lonar Sarovar Sanctuary. This temple, built during the Chalukya dynasty (6th to 12th centuries), features three rooms, with the last dark room housing a four-foot idol of Lord Vishnu. The temple's exterior is intricately carved and designed in the shape of an asymmetric star.
A key part of our journey was our guide, Mr. Chaitanya Kayande (+91 8888264934), who has dedicated the past 11 years to guiding with genuine passion. I greatly appreciated his sincerity and his emphasis on the importance of mythology and our rich history.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I urge everyone to plan a tour to Lonar Lake and its temples, which have a history spanning around 1200-1400 years. Let’s boost tourism and raise awareness about this unique geological and historical site.

We visited Lonar crater. It was an outstanding experience. We explored the temples and surrounding area with our guide Amol Sardar (9975447088). Amol has great knowledge. His passion for the area made the trip unforgettable. Temples, their architecture, small jungle trek, everything is worth visiting. A natural event happened lac n lac years back and then man made marvels - its an unique experience.
Another worth visiting temple is daitya sudan temple.

Lonaar had been on our bucket list for a while, and we finally got to visit this amazing place. We hired Mr. Shailesh Sardar (+91 97635 45169) as our guide, and he made the trip unforgettable with his deep knowledge of the area's history.
When we arrived on Saturday evening, Mr. Sardar took us to the Daitya Sudan Temple and the Sleeping Hanuman Temple, where we even got to attend the aarti. The next morning, we started an early trek to the lake. Mr. Sardar shared fascinating stories about each place and took great photos of us, making the trip even more special.
Being the first ones on the trek, we saw lots of peacocks in the jungle and many migratory birds at the lake. It was an amazing experience, and we highly recommend Mr. Sardar to anyone visiting Lonaar. The area is full of beautiful ancient temples and is definitely worth a visit.

Lonar is a small village at 130 km from Aurangabad. It takes 2.5 hrs via Samruddhi Expressway and an hour more via non-toll road.
Lonar, famous for its crater and rich historical background, is a hidden gem of the country not yet popularised by tourists. It doesn’t have many stay options. MTDC resorts are generally reliable. Vikrant Hotel is another option.
There are 2 ways to see this crater
1. A drive around its circumference from the top. There are 3-4 watch towers to get the entire view of the crater.
2. Trek to the lake to watch it up and close- 5km (3hr) to and fro. On the way, visit a few temples and learn about our heritage.
It is very advisable to engage a tour guide.
A strong recommendation goes for Amol Sardar
99754 47088.

It’s a beautiful natural creation. A perfectly circular crater formed by an asteroid that now has a salt water lake. The outer rim is 2 km in diameter. While it’s worth the visit sadly the place is not developed for tourism. Even the view point and the temple are open during fixed hours. Except for MTDC there are no other places to stay. I think the government should develop the site and the place around. Possibly have a walking track around the crater.

Is trip to Lonar lake safe for solo female traveller?
Scritta in data 26 marzo 2019
Not very sure. The place seems to be safe enough but there is only MTDC if you are planning to stay the night. The best time to go to the Lake is early morning. You could plan to reach in the day , go down to the lake in the afternoon (but it is very very hot) come back and leave back for the city. However, this is a very tight schedule and when we had gone the roads were not very good

Is it advisable to go in mid- August?
Scritta in data 24 marzo 2019
That area does not get much rainfall . It will be humid but if you go early morning at sunrise it should be pleasant.
Scritta in data 25 marzo 2019
The guide had quoted ~ Rs 600 but then since we were 2 families he agreed for Rs 400. It was worth the cost
Scritta in data 12 marzo 2019
Yes it would be but then go down to the lake in the early morning else it will get too hot
Scritta in data 12 marzo 2019
1) How long it takes to go down to the lake?
2) Is there a road around crater that we can drive around?
3) Any other interesting stop on the way fro Aurangabad to Lonar?
4) Did you get to see any crystallized glass/pumic stones due to impact?
5) What birds/wildlife can we expect to see?
Scritta in data 13 marzo 2018
It takes about 30-40 min to go down at a very gradual pace . This is a trek so wear shoes . There is no road and it is just through the mountain you go down and hence a guide is a good option.
We had a good guide who pointed us the birds. The wild animals are normally & fortunately not seen in the day !
We did not find anything interesting on the way from Auragabad to Lonar
