Yes, it's modern art and it might not tick all your boxes but there are enough different mediums to guarantee something that will catch your attention. For me it was the digital experience and I loved the tree calendar.

I visited during the day to take in the current exhibits. No charge to see the art! The halls are big and bright, plenty of room to enjoy the sculptures. I walked through a room of materials for artistic play and a theatre room where a short film was playing. Nice rooms, bathrooms, gift area, and even a cafe.

A pesar de ser un museo muy bien valorado, nos encontramos con que no pudimos contar con ningún servicio de guía - imprescindible para poder apreciar y entender algunas obras - y además en algunas salas no tuvo lugar ningún tipo de proyección.Si tenemos en cuenta que éste es un museo eminentemente visual, pues la visita acabó siendo decepcionante. Una pena.

Visited at the weekend for a show; staff were great - really friendly and welcoming. My only critique is the show we attended was about 2.5 hours long, and the seats are quite small and close together so it became uncomfortable sitting in them towards the end (and I'm only 5ft so can imagine anyone taller would certainly struggle).

I have been to numerous exhibitions here for work and with family and it never fails to disappoint. The design of the building is lovely and it is wonderful to see such a fascination place in Carlow. The playground exhibition was really nice and a wonderful place for people to visit. The theater is also a lovely set up, Last year at Christmas we visited to see Its a wonderful Life and it was absolutely amazing and definitely got us in the Christmas spirit.

Hi Laurajane94, it is lovely of you to review us. This year we are showing It's A Wonderful Life again, as well as Mary Poppins and Singin' In the Rain. I do hope you get to come back for one of those!

Went to see a comedy gig here which is great that some big acts are coming to the Visual. Although, It was a bit pricey just for water and peanuts even! The toilets are up way too high, my feet didn't even touch the floor! And I couldn't see any soap there in the bathroom either. Also the rear entrance to the Visual needs to be lit up, all the lights were off. Could barely see anything in front of me. Overall a nice experience though, with friendly staff, a clean venue, nicely decorated.

We stopped off at the visual exhibition centre and perhaps it's just me but I have been to a fair few art galleries and installations over the years but I just didn't get the art on show today.
Spinning blankets and speakers playing music no one will hear?
The actual building, facilities and I'm sure the restaurant are all good.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We have three exhibition seasons a year, and each one will have different themes and types of work. Our Summer Season included the Annual Carlow Arts Festival Open Submission exhibition, which included the work you've described. It's an important show for Irish artists, and an opportunity for audiences to see new contemporary work. Some of it is unfamiliar, and it can be challenging..we understand that for lots of our different audiences, they will have different needs..upstairs we had the fun and visually beautiful film of Oskar Schlemmer's 'The Triadic Ballet' from 1934, with a dress-up space and drawing/costume design table, so that families who come in and might not be so interested in more challenging contemporary work, can spend some time in the gallery enjoying work in a different way. This season we have a retrospective of artist Paul Mosse, spanning 50 years. It includes very early works right up to recent work, and is accompanied by a Materials Library and examples of the objects he collects which inspire him. The idea is that a viewer can come and get an insight into how the artist thinks, and see how the work changed over 50 years - which is interesting whether or not his work is to someone's personal taste or not. We've also got film maker Pat Collins' new film, Twilight, and an exhibition by Carlow based artist Saidhbhin Gibson. All the artists are influenced by their natural surroundings, so that's the central theme this season. We've also got a free make-and-do table for little ones - and of course great coffee and food in Lennon's restaurant. We know we won't meet everyone's needs every time, but we will continue to give audiences, schools, communities and the many local partner groups we work with the chance to experience excellent exhibitions, and to make up their own minds about whether they like particular work or not, just as you did :) We really welcome the feedback, not just on how you felt about the work on exhibition but on how we welcome visitors in to the space so that they can have an interesting and enjoyable visit water their response to the work. I hope you come back again to see other exhibitions and see how you compare them to our Summer Season.
