This is a nice walk where you can breath fresh air, enjoy the view and pray if you like. It takes a couple of hours.

For sure Garana has more to offer than first meets the eye.... indeed is known for the Jazz festival , recently they open a ski slope there also. But this is about one of the attractions that is less known - the Kreuzweg - the Way of the the Cross - or in Rumanian is "Drumul Crucii".
As the name says its path - with a certain symbolism to it - that starts in the village of Garana (Wolfsberg) near the catholic church and at it stops on the hill of called Kasarn - where you will find a cross several meters tall marking the end of the path.
As said in terms of symbolism it starts at the church and there are stations on the way marking the stops that Jesus had on His way to Golgotha. Also there is another symbolism to it , as the the path of each of us through life.
It doesn't matter if you are religious or not the views are excellent , the scenery around Garana goes through the forest surrounding the village , its a nice walk - longer than usual its like a km and you will cover 200+ meters elevation difference.
Some thoughts:
- have comfortable tacking shoes - its a walk but through the woods it is not like o tarmac.
- have water with you - especially if you are going in the summer.
- in the summer months it can be hot - so have some cap/hat.
Once you arrived to the Cross on the Kasarn hill - on a clear day you can see the Semenic Peak and and the Semenic mountain range - the hill is 1102 meters high - and the climb is easy - so you don't need to be in top shape to do this walk.
So if you are in Garana and you fill like stretching a leg - this can be for you for sure.

A rather unknown point of interest or track - interesting even for hikers - is the Road of the Cross in Garana.
What is this all about ? Well it is a track or walking road that starts in the village of Garana and goes up a hill above the village having its terminus point at a wooden cross on top of the hill overlooking Garana.
It is a 1,8 km long track with an elevation difference of 200m the cross is situated 1100 m above sea level.
Why is it called the Road of the Cross? - along the track you will find the 14 station - reproducing the road of Jesus Christ on his path (that ended with his crucifiction). So this track is depicting these track.
It can be very interesting for catholics especially in the period of Easter, but nonetheless it is a beautiful track for walking - in the woods around Garana.
The track starts in the village - you get to the catholic church and from there you can follow the stations on the road up the cross on the hill. The track is beautiful as it goes through the woods and than its clearing out as you get close to the end of it and the view from above is just beautiful, well worth it getting there.
A few things to pay attention to:
- wear comfortable shoes for tracking - it is not a difficult track but still don't go in flip-flops.
- if you go during the hot summer months , go tracking in the morning or in the late afternoon - to not have the midday sun "hitting you".
- have water with you ... sure the hike there and back is like 1 hour + some minutes of rest and enjoying the view - still have water with you.
So , if you are in or near Garana and if you care for hike but you don't want anything difficult or you just fill for an extended leg stretching walk the "Road of the Cross" or Kreuzzweg is definitely the must do for you.
