The Dun Cow is what I’d describe as a non trendy, “local” pub that is very much in the traditional style. There is one small snug cum public bar and a larger lounge bar.

The decor is a pleasing mix of dark and white wood panelling and the furnishings are nicely understated. The service was friendly and very good and the ambience cosy and most pleasant.

Cracking wee pub.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best pubs we visited in Durham was The Dun Cow Pub ,not only a fabulous pub but also a historic Grade II listed building.
The pub interior is fantastic, multi roomed, an island style serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just one wonderful pub to chill out in.
We were here on a Thursday afternoon, we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team, after a quick study of their real ale's we both opted to have Timothy Taylors " landlord " , these were served in excellent condition ,we just chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, a classic British pale ale, so tasty on a hot afternoon.
We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and for a first time visit to The Dun Cow Pub we were more than impressed.
The Dun Cow Pub is easy to locate along Old Elvet, a street and area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Saturday, Open from 11am.
Sunday, Open from Midday.
A great pub,if your in the area or planning to visit Durham most definitely well worth checking out.

What a fantastic welcome! The staff make this place, we had such good fun we went back every evening of our visit. Great selection of beers and wines, along with rumours of resident ghosts

The Dun Cow Inn on Old Elvet is a fantastic pub in Durham and is without doubt one of the best and oldest pub's we visited on our day trip from Newcastle.
Housed in a grade-II listed building with an unbelievable whitewashed exterior and an excellent multi-roomed interior with superb fixtures and features throughout the whole pubs interior and a superb outside seating area where the toilets are located.
This is a fantastic pub and apparently the most haunted pub in Durham and you can see why as part's of this building may date from the 15th century.
Steeped in local history'the Dun Cow Inn is without doubt the best pub we visited as it had everything I like in a pub as it is a very historic pub and may be haunted and they serve a great beer range and the staff are superb.
We had already visited some superb pubs in Durham but by far this was the best pub we visited and when here we had a couple of glasses of Timothy Taylor's brewery ales which were perfectly served and really well priced for a pub of this quality.
The Dun Cow Inn is well worth a visit and so easy to get to from Shire Hall bus stop its a short walk.(This is my first review of the Dun Cow Inn).
Opening Hours.
Monday-Saturday-11.00-23.00.
Sunday-12.00-23.00.
Nearest Bus Stop.
Shire Hall bus stop.

Lovely little bar with friendly staff. The beer is kept really well. I recommend Timothy Taylor Landlord. Ideal for a place to relax with a pint and a chat. The batman could not do enough for me and my friends. I can't wait to visit again

A great traditional hostelry with an excellent selection of local ales. Obviously well appreciated by the locals and the seats outside were perfect on a hot summer's evening. A great place for a beer or two

Stopped off for a quick pint at this place. Although we sat outside in a well adapted seating area on the road. Inside looked quirky but didn't spend much time there as I enjoyed my pint of real ale in the blazing sun outside ina relaxed atmosphere.

Enjoying a lovely pit stop pint outside the pub. Grateful for the landlords fortitude in pushing for outside seating. Support and solidarity!

Wonderful traditional and friendly pub. Idiosyncratic food - pies, toasties, huge cheeseboard. Black Sheep and Castle Eden in same pub - tremendous.
