Simply beautiful!
set 2019
My husband and I came across this abbey completely by accident. I am so glad we did. No one was there, and we enjoyed exploring these beautiful ruins. It has a fascinating history.

With ample parking, picnic tables and bins.....its a nice stop. As its right on a signposted walk...one can even do a loop walk along the river.

A little gem

At the western end of the Glen of Aherlow this is a beautiful little ruined Abbey. A small car park attached. The ruin has some nice carvings and stonework.

I am related to the Moore's, so I had to stop by here. Great bridge over the river was a video oppurtunity.

Childhood memories

This is well and truly a hidden gem. Many a childhood I would call in here as a pitstop when cycling to my grannies. Fabulous to walk around and to just let it all set in. Car park spacing with picnic benches. Ideal for a picnic with the local shop only a 5 minute drive. If ever in the area it is definitely worth the visit

A Real Gem!

Moor Abbey is a beautiful old ruined abbey in the Glen of Aherlow right between Galbally, Limerick and Lisvernane, Tipperary. The beautiful Aherlow river flows nearby, under the old bridge and on through a farmer's field. It is so idyllic, that wedding parties often use it for photos.

A n interesting surprise

We came upon this abbey by surprise as it stands on a T-junction of a modern road right in the middle of the crossbar and facing down a lovely tree-lined approach road. There is some very informative and useful information provided but the building itself is not worth taking a detour to see unless one is really interested in historical architecture.

Hidden History needing some TLC

I discovered this place after seeing wedding photos taken in a nearby hotel. It took some looking for on Google, but got there in the end. The site isn't in bad condition and is looked after by someone quite well, but the place is more like a local scenic spot that anything else. I saw no one else in the time I spent there with the exception of a woman walking her dog past the entry. There is an info-graphic outside giving some of the history to the place and some of the original carvings are visible including a tomb marker. The abbey is clearly in two distinct parts, with the main religious area to the rear from the road. The bell tower is very impressive above the site.

There is parking right at the access and it also is part of the walking routes around Aherlow Glen. Picnic tables are also nearby.
