The weather was not that good and I think it makes the vast iron bridge stand out, with the murky water traveling underneath and at quite a speed is impressive. To think this bridge used to take all the traffic to both England and Wales is outstanding. So of you're that way it's worth a look

Missed the turn off for Chepstow Castle and found ourselves heading across the Old Wye Bridge which marks the border between England and Wales. It is an amazing piece of architecture, full of character and very well maintained. It still carries traffic in single file. From the bridge are beautiful views of the castle and River Wye.

The bridge is one way and is on the Welsh/ English border.
The Riverside walk to the bridge and the castle has a couple of little pubs and I saw a restaurant too.
This is an attractive part of a pretty little Welsh town and well worth a visit.

Used the bridge to cross the river to go to the Castle. Beautiful bridge, very ornate and very well kept. Traffic lights control the traffic flow, as bridge is narrow. Well worth the visit.

This wonderful and well preserved old bridge which spans the river Wye separates the borders of England and Wales. It was great to walk across from one end to the other and back again. The views up and down the river from the bridge is excellent. You can even drive over it if you want.

I do love a good bridge and this beauty is just that, beautiful. A two centuries old cast iron bridge that forms the border between England and Wales. Crossing a river with a one of the highest tidal ranges in the world, it's a fascinating place to see. With the wonderful Chepstow in Wales on one side and the quaint village of Tutshill a short walk over the bridge in England, the bridge is essential to visit if you're in the area.

I still find it quite staggering that this elegant structure took all the traffic on the England /Wales route until 30 or so years ago.Its one way, controlled by lights. Years ago, if they failed the police operated a baton system.
My suggestion would be to combine a trip taking in the surroundings. Maybe park in Tutshill and walk down the hill so to see the bridge and castle in a wonderful setting. But, you would have a steepish walk back.
Maybe park in the castle car park and stroll over the bridge to take the view, an easier choice.Walk along the river bank, tarmac path and come to a restaurant of the Boat Inn.
Maybe walk up beyond the castle an into town where there are a few eateries, independant and chain.
All worthwhile for a day out but be warned , pavements are narrow and steep in places.

Thus old bridge is great fir the amateur or professional photographer , especially on a sunny day in particular a sunny evening. There’s a modest backdrop of trees to help with the interest, and reflections in the river.

Great views of the castle from here, and get the sense of the great height of the tides. We stayed just outside Chepstow and this was our route in whether walking or by car - may get busy but we never saw it so.

A fun old bridge between Chepstow in Wales and England on the other side of the Wye River.
