Our gelato tour was scheduled for a day when the temperature was predicted to be 102F. Our family plus two friends... who were dreading the adventure given the heat. And my goodness, did we all absolutely love the day. Between a morning departure, shaded country lanes and a downhill breeze, we were perfectly comfortable. Our guides, Chris Small and Francesco, were as delightful as they were knowledgable. They were brimming with fun facts, historic details, cultural insights and personal charm. In addition to biking and gelato, we enjoyed the towns (and tastes) of Castellina and San Gimignano. Truly, in our eyes, the outing was perfect. The guides, the coordination, the activities, the scenery -- perfect. We are longing for a re-do.

I Bike Tuscany was the highlight of our trip to Italy! Chris went above and beyond to ensure that our biking and wine-tasting excursion went smoothly. His deep knowledge of the area allowed us to learn so much about biking, wine, Tuscany, and its history. We will always cherish this wonderful experience!

We were nervous booking tours for our trip to Italy. I trusted the previous reviews and they did not disappoint.
Chris our tour specialist picked us up at our Airbnb and we knew from our first interaction that this was going to be a great time.
Our first stop was a medieval village where we walked the quiet streets and had a cappuccino at a local coffee bar. It was incredible!
I had not been on a bike in 30 years but Chris was encouraging and honestly it was the easiest. We biked 12 miles downhill through the most breathtaking scenery. It was peaceful and stunning, a nice break from the city tours we’d been on.
Chris drove ahead and we’d meet him along the way to be sure not to get lost, which would have been impossible. He stopped us at significant parts to explain the area and take pics. We really appreciated this and didn’t feel rushed at all.
Following our bike tour we were dropped off at a beautiful farmhouse where we did a cooking class with Catiuscia , our cook extraordinaire.
We had a great time learning the fundamentals of pasta making, sauce and the best bruschetta ever! The best part was sitting with friends at the end to enjoy our superb creation and enjoy it with wine!
It was very welcoming to be in Catiucias actual home, felt like family! This was a real olive farm and we were able to order bottles of amazing olive oil and have it shipped home to Canada, for us.
Our drive home was the perfect ending filled with stories and information on the history and the present ways of the Tuscany region. Chris is a great guide who was knowledgeable, down to earth and funny! We had the best time!

Jason was an awesome guide and is super knowledgeable about the area! They let us customize a 30 plus mile road bike ride ending at an amazing winery tour and tasting. One of the best days of our trip by far!

My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to do a private tour ( The Big Three - gelato, olive oil and wine) with I bike Tuscany in August, 2024. Jason our guide met us, in walking distance from our hotel in Florence, with the air conditioned van and our bikes atop. As the traffic was light we were able to visit an additional town, San Donato. It was a beautiful small village with no sign of the usual crowds we had so far seen on our Italian holiday. Next stop was Castellina in Chianti, a slightly bigger town but no less charming. We had some free time to walk around, take in the sights and grab a coffee. It was here where we got to taste and enjoy the gelato part of the ‘three’ before we went on our downhill ride. The gelato was delicious. It was a particularly hot day and so we were thankful for the air conditioned van. We are not regular cyclists but thoroughly enjoyed the downhill ride (about 18 klms and about 440m descent) from Castellina in Chianti to the outskirts of San Gimignano, the largest of the three towns we visited. Jason ensured we were on track and, at regular intervals during the ride, stopped ahead of us to point out important sights and photo opportunities. After a couple of hours in San Gimignano (there’s plenty to see), we were then taken to a winery where we were able to try some Chianti and home grown and processed olive oil. Both were delicious.
Jason was great company, professional and very informative. To quote my husband ‘I learnt a lot from our tour yesterday’, which I did too.
To see a small slice of Tuscany on our bike tour was a tick ✅ for me and maybe one day we’ll return for a longer stay in slightly cooler weather.

Me, my wife, and our 18 and 16 year old sons spent a week between Rome, Florence and Venice. We are not cyclling enthusiasts by any means, but we all agreed that our Bike tour through Tuscany was our favorite day in Italy. Chris and Francesco were fantastic, and the experience was truly memorable. So glad we did it.

It's a shame I can only give 5 stars. Jason and Marco deserve so much more than that!
My wife and I decided to do the food and wine lovers ride with cooking class as part of our honey moon. Marco was quick to respond to our emails and seamlessly set up a private tour for the both of us. On the day of the tour, we needed to be picked up from an alternative location, which Jason easily organised without any problems.
Jason was extremely friendly, charasmatic, and knowledgeable. He gave us a quick demonstration on how to use the bikes at Castellina before we commenced. He shared with us the history of the region as we rode our bikes through Tuscany and eventually we made our way to the cooking class where we met Fulvio.
Fulvio is a gentleman and an absolute master of his craft - Italian cuisine. Furthermore, he is extremely knowledgeable regarding cuisines worldwide and individual variation in Italian dishes. His wit and great sense of humour augmented the excellence of his cooking. To be frank, the class was phenomenal and you should not miss this experience.
Following the class, Jason took us to San Gimignano where we walked around the walls and ate delicious gelato from Dondoli. He then dropped us back to Firenze while giving us excellent food and drink recommendations.
Overall an outstanding and exceptional experience from this company. If you are in Firenze, do yourself a favour and book a tour with this group. Thank you again Jason and Marco!!
Warm regards,
Sam and Phoebe Piotto

My wife and I just wrapped an incredible bike tour w Chris as part of our honeymoon. He knows the Chianti region like the back of his hand and the region knows him. We could not get far without a buongiorno from a local. As a professional coach, he is patient and incredibly helpful in making you feel secure as you struggle uphill or fly downhill. The routes are beautiful and you can customize to make as hard or easy as you’d like. All the meals, van support and add on activities were top notch. The booking team and the vineyard guides were also super prompt and knowledgeable. Already looking forward to our next tour with I Bike Tuscany!

What's the weather usually like in May, and what happens to the tour if it rains?

Hi - Best to ask the experienced professionals at I Bike Tuscany who can best answer your question with the most up-to-date information available. They're the best (!) and would help plan your trip to be in Florence at the right time. Give them a shout and have fun!!!

Hi there, We are visiting Tuscany next month (in February 2017). Do you offer bike tours at this time of year? If not, could you recommend somebody who does?

We are interested in the Gelato Ride. Going to Florence would take us way out of our way. Can we meet the tour near Castellina and avoid the van ride to and from Florence?

I agree. She dropped us off at our hotel in Siena for fuel costs. She's very accommodating.

We would like to book a 1 or 2 day bike tour for an intermediate level travelling from Florence to Sienna for two.
Could you please send prices including bike rental.
This would be for some time during the first week of September.
Do we need to book ahead or can we book when we are travelling.
