A real atmospheric location. The woodlands add to the experience. Lovely walk through the woods to the hall, with brilliant wooden carvings of woodland animals.

We went on a day when we were one of the only people around. Very peaceful and beautiful. There are lots of little carvings along the way and activities for the kids to do. I would recommend a few more signs to point people in the right directions but we found our way. If you are in to abandoned buildings and amazing history, don’t miss this place

Nice park: woodland walks and historic derelict mansion. There is good free car parking and toilets too. If you are game, you could bathe in the lake. The roads to get there are quite narrow.

Moore Hall is a very nice place to visit. It is very good for paranormal investigators. And there are so many lovely woodland walks around Moore Hall. There is a beautiful lake near it. And a couple of fun playground toys for the kids to play with. Over all I think it definitely deserves a 5 star and beware of ghosts 👻 it has been renovated a bit in the walled gardens but other than that it is very historical.

This was my personal favorite spot in all of Ireland, and we explored from one tip to the other on this beautiful island. Just a short walk from the parking lot, this spot is magical, like you're walking through a fairy tale book.

Gut, dass man Informiert wird, um das Haus und seine Geschichte besser einordnen zu können. Schön, dass man - wenn es auch nur ein paar Schritte sind - sich dem Haus nähern muss und es aus dem Grün des Waldes dann plötzlich auftaucht. Ignoriert man die (eher albernen) Holzpfähle mit Tiermotiven, kann man sich voll auf die Wirkung des Hauses konzentrieren.
Der Hinweis für uns kam durch Dronenaufnahmen auf einem Internet-Kanal. Die Sicht von oben hilft, die Umgebung besser einzuordnen. Der walled garten war bestimmt mal eine Schönheit, heute ein Zeichen - wie das Haus - von Vergänglichkeit.

Moore Hall & House are a beautiful walk near Ballintubber Abbey, about a 10 minute drive.
The walk is ideal for a young family or older people as its relatively flat with lots of benches for sitting. The park also has some of the best wood carvings we've ever seen and they really make a difference for younger children. It takes about 7 minutes to get to the old main house from either entrance with the rest of the park being a gentle loop.

Went with my boyfriends for a walk, its very nice view and a lovely building, some days the gates are open and u can go in it. Deffentely worth the walk with friends or ur significant other.

The site, including the ruined house (Moore Hall), a courtyard and a walled garden, along with 80 acres of woodland, is located on the shores of Lough Carra, in South West Mayo just 2 miles from the village of Carnacon. Built between 1792-96, Moorehall is the ancestral home of president of the Republic of Connacht John Moore and the Moore family of writers and politicians. The estate was planned as a Manor and had all the outbuildings to make the house and estate a self-sufficient entity. Moore Hall is located at the centre of a triangle marked by Claremorris, Ballinrobe and Castlebar, at about nine miles from each of these towns. It is less than a ten-minute drive from both Ballintubber Abbey and Mayo Abbey and is within easy reach of Westport. Lough Carra, renowned angling (fishing) lake, is the smallest lake of the Carra, Mask & Corrib system. The area immediately around Moorehall is the old grounds, now beautifully wooded, in this carst limestone area of botanical importance. Many species of wild orchid can be found here and the smaller lakes and wildlife of the area are mostly untouched. The house itself is of architectural significance; designed by the John Roberts (Waterford), who also designed Waterford Cathedral. In Moorehall itself there was mostly Italian plasterwork the remnants of which still remain. In January 2018 Mayo County Council announced plans to develop the site for tourist purposes. There are many other attractions in this area, including Ballintubber Abbey, Lough Carra and historic Ballinrobe.

Beautiful to see, beautiful walking route, definitely worth a stop if it is on the route. Wouldn't drive an hour for it.
