Went here to enjoy a nice walk around the park. Lovely area to walk around in nature. Beautiful. Also enjoyed a nice coffee from the cafe as well as a cupcake. Didn't go to the restaurant, but they also had plenty of options to choose from if you decided to eat there as well.
If you enjoy to walk, I would 100% recommend visiting Dalkeith Country Park!

There are literally so many free play parks that entertain the kids for just as long for free. I was extremely disappointed with my whole experience, starting with paying £3 to park when I’d already paid for entry for me and 3 kids!

What an amazing place. The is so much to do for young and old alike. It costs £3 to park her for the day, and there is lots of space. The courtyard area is called the Restoration Yard. Here you will fond toilets, food, drink and various shops.
We walked the grounds and forests as you can see in our pictures. In the forest you can her the sounds of people in the trees in the GoApe area. There are plenty of activities and play areas here to keep any child happy.
There is also the stately home which is now dedicated to art. They always have exhibitions on with varied content.
A great day out, just outside Edinburgh.

My family and I love this park and used to visit very regularly as we live nearby. However the prices are now so high that this is very much a "one off" place for us to go. It is an excellent park, don't get me wrong, with lots to do to keep kids entertained for hours. However it is not "interactive" - it is not a park that adults will play in as responses to other reviews claim. You can interact with your child in that you could follow them around or push them on the swings and roundabout, but the actual equipment is not really adult friendly, and so the £5 charge for adults seems completely unreasonable. When we visit my husband and I usually sit at a picnic bench while the kids play, and pay £10 for the privilege. When I started attending here with my daughter (now 7) an adult charge was £1 which is much more acceptable and in line with other, similar, places. On top of that there is the £3 parking charge, introduced in lockdown, and yet we're still parking in a muddy field. It is claimed that money raised will fund better car parking, but I suspect the Duke of Buccleuch could easily afford a new car park, being one of the richest landowners in Britain.
I went online to book a session today, and was going to be charged an extra £1 per head because I wasn't booking 2 days in advance. So I won't be taking my kids, because there are other lovely, cheaper parks like Weehailes and Vogrie nearby that won't break the bank. Maybe not quite as good, but still really good and much more affordable. I have lots of friends who won't come here anymore due to how expensive it has become. Please review your Fort Douglas prices Dalkeith Country Park, so locals can keep coming on a regular basis. The adult charge in particular, is ridiculous!

Popped in to coffee bar one morning at 10am for breakfast and not much choice. Lovely cupcakes and brownies from mimis but not what most people want for breakfast! And no scones till later in the day…

Extremely over priced in my opinion. Cost us almost £25 for 2 adults and 2 v young children aged 1 and 2 for access to a playpark! I can't understand charging adults £5 each... for what? Fort Douglas is a complete rip off however Dalkeith Country Park itself is nice for a walk and a picnic without paying to go in to a playpark. Would not recommend.

Came for a walk, stayed for lunch as it was a beautiful sunny day! Lovely kept grounds and a great place to explore, though initially couldn't find the beginning of the footpaths, thought I was going the right way and ended up in the middle of Go Ape.
Lunch at the coffee shop was lovely, seemed freshly made and it was the best potato salad I've ever had. There was a small issue with my lunch but the manager lady dealt with it very well and she was great, so friendly to everyone, her friendliness was infectious. Great coffee and lovely relaxing time sitting outside. Not cheap but nice for a treat, it is a tourist attraction after all so it's not going to be cheap! Thanks again.

Well trying to get to the car park one would have needed a map. Poor parking with nobody actually in the car park to direct folk.
Walkways down to the play park are actually dangerous and not maintained....our grandkids found it very slippy. Nice welcome at the entry point....then it's downhill from there.
Play areas ok but the bouncing area is again unsupervised and many small kids were being knocked over.
Slides good.....and the to lunch.
Basically bring your own as none of the kiosks were open.....on Victoria Day....a public holiday !!!!
Then to our own packed lunch.....walk through grass at least a foot long and sit at a bench.... which was filthy.
Basically the park is totally unsupervised and if an accident occurred....then beware.
Not worth the money and poorly managed.

Hello Alan, thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your visit. We are sorry to hear your experience left you disappointed. Our adventure playground is a safe and secure area for all children with safety checks carried out each day. We encourage adults to join in the fun with all equipment set up for interactive play. Should any little adventurers require assistance, our staff are first aid trained and more than happy to help at The Hub located at the entrance to Fort Douglas. We are currently resurfacing one of our car parks. Once completed in a few weeks, will alleviate the pressure on our overflow car park, creating an enjoyable experience for all. We apologise for the condition of the walkways. The Park landscape has suffered due to the recent torrential rains and our park team are working hard to restore all pathways as safety is of the utmost importance.

We bloody loved this place. What a treat. For our little boy (18 months) and us big kids too! £3 parking. Beautiful colour coded walks (colours could maybe be slightly more prominent), amd we got to see the gorgeous bluebells. The courtyard is done beautifully to a very high standard with a beautiful store, food shop, larder, kitchen and coffee shop.
Our biggest highlight of our whole trip was Fort Douglas. What a TREAT! So much to do for toddlers and older. We've never experienced anywhere as good. What a laugh we had on the jumping pillows, zip wire for toddlers and double swing. The forts, slides etc were thought out to a tea, very clever.
Our only criticism is the coffee shop is lovely and we did eat here however with how many children the park attracts the facilities for food/warming bottles etc could be much more enhanced and friendly for parents. Or even a seperate area.
Thank you for making our trip ❤️

Hi
Hoping to visit next year for the lets Rock Scotland festival. Can anyone recommend nearby accommodation?
Much appreciated 👍

There are no specific hotels in the park but within 2 miles there are 3 hotels that are good quality, and reasonably priced. Edinburgh city is 6 miles away and buses are frequent and cheap. These stop about 400 yards away from the park gates.

Is there an area of the park where I can release my dogs without fear that they will chase or harm the animals / livestock?
Scritta in data 18 agosto 2016
As far as I'm aware, yes. I quite often go with my sisters in laws and their dog and we let him off the lead. New fences have been put up which clearly mark off where live stock graze. If you're concerned, double check at the gate house but as far as I know it's a dog friendly place. Lots of dog walkers go there at least.
I hope that helps.

Hi, entrance to the park is £1 per person, but this is refundable against any purchase in Restoration Yard or Fort Douglas. Thanks.
